Vikings vs. Packers, NFL regular season Week 4

It’s time for the 128th border battle between the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers.

The 3-0 Vikings are on the road for their first NFC North matchup of the season against the 2-1 Packers, who are getting back starting quarterback Jordan Love after being without him over the last two weeks. This should be quite the matchup between two talented, well-coached squads with their eyes on winning the division this year.

Despite Love returning, most of the other injury news favors the Vikings in this game. They’re getting Jordan Addison and Dallas Turner back, which adds to their depth on both sides of the ball. The Packers will be without top cornerback Jaire Alexander and another CB in Carrington Valentine, meaning their top corners will be Eric Stokes, Corey Ballentine, and Keisean Nixon against the Vikings’ talented WR trio of Justin Jefferson, Addison, and Jalen Nailor.

Sam Darnold’s strong start and Aaron Jones’ return to Lambeau Field are among the top storylines for a Vikings offense that’s going against a good Packers defense. On the other side of the ball, the chess match with Love and Matt LaFleur facing the Vikings’ red-hot, Brian Flores-led defense will be a fascinating one.

Read the recap here.

0:00 — The Packers scored again to make it a two-point game, but the Vikings recovered an onside kick and held on for the win.

6:13 — That was an odd decision from Jordan Love, who just lobbed a ball up into the end zone and had it picked off by Byron Murphy Jr.

Vikings 31, Packers 22

6:50 — The Vikings get a much-needed response from their offense, driving down to kick a field goal and make it a two-score game. Darnold completed his first four passes on that drive for 60 yards.

Vikings 28, Packers 22

10:16 — This one is suddenly extremely interesting. The Packers got a strip-sack and then got into the end zone two plays later. They also converted a two-point try to make it a six-point game. All the momentum and crowd noise is on their side.

Vikings 28, Packers 14

11:38 — This one ain’t over yet. The Packers score on a wide open Dontayvion Wicks touchdown to make it a two-score game. The Vikings have come up empty on four consecutive offensive possessions.

9:16 — The Vikings’ defense has come up with a couple stops early in this quarter. They just forced another Packers punt after a Darnold interception near the goal line.

Vikings 28, Packers 7

0:15 — The Packers have a bit of life. After a muffed punt by Jalen Nailor, Jordan Love hit Jayden Reed for a touchdown to get Green Bay on the board. They also get the ball to start the second half.

2:03 — That’s a turnover on downs for the Packers as we approach the 2-minute warning. They still haven’t scored.

Vikings 28, Packers 0

5:28 — Sam Darnold rifles a ball to Justin Jefferson for his third TD pass of the game. A great throw and a wild catch by Jefferson, who didn’t show his hands until the last moment. This is unreal.

5:55 — Shaq Griffin just picked off a deflected pass and nearly ran it back for a touchdown. Are you kidding me with this first half for the Vikings?

8:04 — Packers kicker Brayden Narveson just missed again. My goodness. Great plays by Pat Jones II and Camryn Bynum set up that 49-yard attempt.

Vikings 21, Packers 0

11:50 — Jordan Addison gets in the end zone for the second time in his return to action, this time on a end-around handoff where he juked Keisean Nixon out of his shoes. The Vikings are rolling.

0:20 — The Vikings, as they so often do, just snagged a takeaway. Kamu Grugier-Hill gets an interception for the second week in a row while filling in for Ivan Pace Jr. — and this couldn’t be going much better for Minnesota.

Vikings 14, Packers 0

1:37 — Two drives, two touchdowns for the Vikings. Sam Darnold hits Josh Oliver from two yards out, Darnold’s tenth TD pass of the season, and the Vikings are rolling again.

6:47 — The Packers moved the ball well on their opening drive, but it ends with a 37-yard field goal attempt that Brayden Narveson doinked off the right upright. That’s a great start for Minnesota.

Vikings 7, Packers 0

11:53 — Just like that, the Vikings start out perfectly again. Sam Darnold hit Jalen Nailor for 31 yards on 3rd and 14, then hit Jordan Addison for a 29-yard touchdown on the next play. Both guys were very open. That’s how you draw it up.
