McDonald’s says it’s not political after Trump visit

Though President Donald Trump visited a Pennsylvania McDonald’s location on Sunday, the fast-food giant is trying to stay neutral in the presidential race.

“As we’ve seen, our brand has been a fixture of conversation in this election cycle. While we’ve not sought this, it’s a testament to how much McDonald’s resonates with so many Americans. McDonald’s does not endorse candidates for elected office and that remains true in this race for the next President,” the company said in an internal message viewed by CNBC and confirmed by a source familiar with the matter.

Trump learned how to operate a fry cooker and work the drive-thru line during his short shift at a Feasterville, Pennsylvania, restaurant. He used the stunt as an opportunity to take more shots at his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.

Trump often accuses Harris of lying about working at McDonald’s for a summer in her 20s, but has offered no proof backing up the claim. Harris has denied the accusation. McDonald’s and its franchisees don’t have all of their employment records for workers dating back to the early 1980s, when the 60-year-old Harris would have worked there, the company said in the Sunday memo.

“Though we are not a political brand, we’ve been proud to hear former President Trump’s love for McDonald’s and Vice President Harris’s fond memories working under the Arches,” McDonald’s said.

Both McDonald’s and the franchisee who operates the location emphasized that the chain opens its doors to “everyone.”

The photo shows a letter outside the McDonald’s verifying it was closed to the public at the time of Trump’s visit.

“As a small, independent business owner, it is a fundamental value of my organization that we proudly open our doors to everyone who visits the Feasterville community,” franchisee Derek Giacomantonio said in a statement. “That’s why I accepted former President Trump’s request to observe the transformative working experience that 1 in 8 Americans have had: a job at McDonald’s.”

Although McDonald’s publicly supported the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020, it has tried to portray itself as an apolitical brand to avoid alienating customers. It follows a broader shift in Corporate America away from politics or initiatives perceived as ideological.

A number of companies, including Ford, Lowe’s and Harley-Davidson, have walked back their diversity, equity and inclusion policies and practices this year.

And that’s a change that many Americans want; only 38% of U.S. adults believe that businesses should take public stances, down from 48% in 2022, according to a Gallup-University of Bentley study conducted this spring.

But McDonald’s has already been involved with another controversy this election cycle.

In late May, several viral social media posts criticized the burger giant’s affordability, citing everything from an $18 Big Mac meal at a Connecticut location to charts that alleged the chain’s prices had more than doubled over the last five years. Republicans latched onto the controversy, tying a jump in McDonald’s menu prices to Biden’s economic policy in a bid to win over voters fed up with inflation.

To quell the controversy, McDonald’s U.S. President Joe Erlinger wrote an open letter and released fact sheets about the company’s pricing.

Two sides looking to bounce back from frustrating EPL defeats last weekend face off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday as Chelsea host Newcastle.

Chelsea’s bright run of seven games unbeaten in all competitions was brought to an end by a narrow 2-1 defeat to league leader Liverpool last Sunday. Enzo Maresca’s men responded well with a convincing 1-4  against Panathinaikos in the Europa Conference League, and a win here against one of their rivals’ Champions League qualification would see them climb to fourth.

There’s a similar incentive for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who could leapfrog Chelsea into seventh with a win today in west London. Any such victory would need to see an improvement from the Magpies frontline, with the visitors failing to score in their last two matches.

Chelsea vs. Newcastle on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Stamford Bridge, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. GMT local time, making it a 10 a.m. ET or 7 a.m. PT start in the U.S. and Canada and a 1 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Monday morning.

Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the match as it happens, wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the Premier League 2024/25 season from anywhere with a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view EPL matches locally, you may need a different way to watch the games — that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a great idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the U.S., UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

ExpressVPN is our current best VPN pick for people who want a reliable and safe VPN, and it works on a variety of devices. It’s normally $13 a month, but if you sign up for an annual subscription for $100 you’ll get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 a month with code SPECIALDEAL, which should be automatically applied.

Note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How to livestream Chelsea vs. Newcastle in the UK

This Sunday afternoon kickoff is exclusive to Sky Sports, showing on its Sky Sports Main Event, Premier League and UHD channels. If you already have Sky Sports as part of your TV package, you can stream the game via its Sky Go app, but cord-cutters will want to get set up with a Now account and a Now Sports membership to stream the game.

Now TV

Sky subsidiary Now offers streaming access to Sky Sports channels with a Now Sports membership. You can get a day of access for £15, or sign up to a monthly plan from £35 per month right now.

Livestream Chelsea vs. Newcastle in Canada

If you want to stream this EPL game live in Canada, you’ll need to subscribe to Fubo Canada. Once again, the service has exclusive rights to every Premier League fixture this season.

Fubo

Fubo is the go-to destination for Canadians looking to watch the EPL this season, with exclusive streaming rights to every match. It costs CA$30 per month, although you can save some cash by paying quarterly or annually.

Livestream Chelsea vs. Newcastle in Australia

Football fans down under can watch EPL matches live on streaming service Optus Sport, which is showing every single Premier League fixture of the 2024/25 season live in Australia.

Optus

With exclusive rights to stream all EPL matches live this season, as well as German Bundesliga and Spanish La Liga games, streaming service Optus Sport is a particularly big draw for Aussie soccer fans.

If you’re already an Optus network customer, you can bag Optus Sport for a reduced price, with discounts bringing the price down to as low as AU$7 per month. If you’re not, a standalone monthly subscription to the service starts at AU$25.

Quick tips for streaming the Premier League using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming EPL matches may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • Remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.

First day of early voting brings in 5,000+ Brazos County voters

First day of early voting brings in 5,000+ Brazos County voters

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Monday was the first day of early voting in Texas, and 5,144 people have already cast their vote in Brazos county for the current election.

Trudy Hancock, elections administrator for Brazos County, told KBTX this election is already bucking trends.

“We have hit the ground running today,” Hancock boasted. “We usually run 50/50. 50% early and 50% election day. I have a feeling this time, a lot of people are going to vote early.”

Thousands of people have already cast their vote in the Brazos Valley on day one of early voting.(kbtx)

As far as first-day jitters, Hancock said it was a smooth day of voting.

“We’ve had a few little technical issues like ballot paper getting jammed and things like that, but nothing to halt voting,” explained Hancock.

Bryan native Jeremy Zamora said he was eager to cast his vote.

“I think it’s important, as an American citizen, to do your due diligence as your right to vote and have your voice be heard,” Zamora shared.

Hancock said it was a large turnout today, and areas like Robertson County are experiencing the same influx of voters with the same amount of foot traffic in a day as it would in a week.

“Just remember, once you’re in that line, you’re within that 100-foot marker, so there is no electioneering. No shirts, buttons, hats for candidates; just be sure that you’re mindful of that,” advised Hancock.

A total of 5,144 people in Brazos county cast their ballot on day one of early voting.

Although lines were a little long on day one, Zamora said election workers quickly and efficiently kept voters moving.

“Do your due diligence of who you want in the office and running the country,” Zamora added.

For those not voting in person but nervous about their ballots being received due to post office issues, Hancock has a pro tip.

“If you’re worried about the post office, your ballot having to go out of town and then come back, you can go to the post office on Boonville and walk your ballot in. They will hand stamp it and put it in a box, and they deliver them to us daily,” suggested Hancock.

A mail-in ballot must be postmarked no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 5 and received by 5 p.m. the following day. That may be a tight turnaround, so Hancock advises all to send out your ballot as early as possible.

Find more information on local election information with KBTX’s Election Headquarters. Early voting runs through November 1.

Lioness’ Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

Lioness’ Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

This story contains spoilers for the season 2 premiere of Special Ops: Lioness.

I won’t lie to you, reader—I’m surprised that we’re back here. Special Ops: Lioness was one of Taylor Sheridan’s most unprecedented shows, for better or worse, and the Yellowstone creator’s motivations for writing it felt murkier every episode.

The series follows three women in the CIA’s “Lioness” program, which sends female operatives undercover into dangerous criminal organizations. As you might expect, Lioness ran the usual gamut of spy-show antics in season 1. The rookie agent fell in love with the enemy, lost her way, and needed her team to help her save the day. But Special Ops: Lioness often shared just as much pessimism for the all-female CIA program it highlighted as it had for the terrorists it depicted as the show’s enemy. Essentially, Special Ops: Lioness made everyone the villain.

As I wrote during the first season, “Life in Special Ops is pure hell. This isn’t an all-Beth Dutton army with kick-ass one-liners. (Could you imagine?) Lioness is a dark portrayal of how people wield power—and the violent ends are often women getting battered, bruised, tortured, or all of the above combined. Because of that, it’s often hard to know who the audience should be cheering on in Lioness—if we should be rooting for anyone at all.”

Knowing Sheridan’s track record 0f pumping out endless amounts of television, season 2 was inevitable. I initially thought that we would move on to another “Special Ops” team in an anthology-style series, but I was wrong. There’s a new mission ahead for the Lioness crew, even though all three of the main women were heavily disillusioned by their crusade in season 1. Rookie operative Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveria) was tortured and trained to kill. Lioness head Kaitlyn Meade (Nicole Kidman) learned that their business in the Middle East had more to do with money than the threat of terrorism, and lead officer Joe (Zoe Saldaña) was forced to convince herself that every awful thing she did was just.

“Look what you made of me,” Cruz tells Joe in the season 1 finale after she murders her target, billionaire Asmar Amrohi (Bassem Youssef). Joe reminds Cruz that she just eliminated “one of the worst fucking perpetrators of violence in the past 20 years,” even if the series did very little to justify those claims. “All we changed was oil prices,” Cruz replies. I never expected anyone to come back.

Paramount

Nicole, we need you.

So, imagine my surprise when season 2 opens with the Lioness team gearing up for another mission. A Texas congresswoman is kidnapped and moved across the border into Mexico. It’s now Kaitlyn’s job to answer the call and investigate. Kaitlyn’s husband, who explained that season 1’s plot was all about oil prices in the previous finale, tells her to “take a look at Mexican exports on [her] drive over, particularly oil.” I have a growing fear that season 2 might just repeat season 1.

Kaitlyn joins up with U.S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins (Morgan Freeman) and CIA Deputy Director Byron Westfield (Michael Kelly). They discuss the details of the case and throw wild speculations in the air about the criminals and their potential ties to Russia and China. I can only imagine that the U.S. government let Sheridan sit on a real American military strategy meeting and that he wrote down what he heard word for word.

Kaitlyn: Russia?

Mullins: It does fit their covert ops strategy, but they don’t have the leverage.

Westfield: It’s China.

Mullins: We think that’s a likely possibility.

Westfield: A U.S. military operation on Mexican soil is a political disaster. The President’s own party will turn on him. The other side of the aisle? They will destroy him. Some form of Vietnam in this hemisphere shifts our focus from the East and it drains our resources even faster than Ukraine. China is Mexico’s number one trade partner in crude oil, natural gasses, as well as gold. So, any military response to this on Mexican soil renders our opposition to a move into Taiwan as both hypocritical to NATO and the U.N.. And with Russia chair of the security council? China has free rein of a Taiwanese invasion.

Um…what?!

Let me remind everyone that we’re just ten minutes into the premiere of Lioness season 2 and all that happened is that as a Texas congresswoman was kidnapped and taken into Mexico. From that alone, the CIA deputy director has somehow convinced the Secretary of State that not only is China involved in this scheme, but that it has global implications. He reckons that this chain of events is the only natural outcome:

1. China pressures Mexico to send a cartel to kidnap a Texas congresswoman and bring her to Mexico.

2. If the U.S. performs an operation on Mexican soil, it will weaken the country’s position with NATO and the UN, because the U.S. looks like hypocrites. (If they’re against China’s invasion of Taiwan.)

3. China invades Taiwan “with little to no consequences.”

I’m certain that the world doesn’t operate on this level of 4D chess, because China doesn’t need to come up with a scheme this far-fetched just to upset the global hierarchy. Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, and they didn’t kickstart that campaign with a political Rube Goldberg machine. Still, this is our board game for season 2. And guess what? They want the Lioness team to handle it.

“A Lioness isn’t designed to gather intel,” Joe tells the boardroom. Secretary of State Morgan Freeman loads one in the chamber spits out this response: “After you kill the guy, could you be so kind as to grab his fucking phones and his computers?” End of meeting.

lioness season 2

Paramount

Morgan Freeman returns!

So, it’s wheels up for Joe. Christmas tree decorating will have to wait. She heads to Del Rio, Texas, to meet her new team. I kid you not, they’re led by Taylor Sheridan, AKA “Cody.” He’s shirtless and brandishing heavy artillery. When they run into early trouble, Sheridan takes out three guys by himself. He even writes himself some one-liners. “You know what they say, Joe, beware the old soldier. He’s old for a reason.”

Driving through Mexico, they immediately find the men holding the congresswoman hostage and kill them. Now, all Joe and her team must do is drive her back across the border. They find themselves in a car chase involving eight to ten police cars. For some reason, they kill all of them. I thought they were supposed to save the congresswoman in an undercover mission, but now there’s a dozen dead cops in Mexico. A helicopter shows up and rescues them all.

“Now, we play offense,” Joe tells the congresswoman. “My agency doesn’t do courtrooms.” Joe, I don’t know what your agency does. At least Cruz found her way out—and hopefully stays out.

Is Bengals WR playing today vs Eagles?

Is Bengals WR playing today vs Eagles?

(This story was updated to add new information.)

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins was a surprise late addition to the final injury report in Week 8 before kickoff against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Missing Higgins would be a major blow for the Bengals offense as they look to get back to .500, considering he was a key catalyst in the offense’s revival over the last few weeks — after he returned from a different injury.

Here’s the latest.

Tee Higgins injury update

  • Final Update: Tee Higgins will be inactive, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
  • Update: According to Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer, “it doesn’t look good” for Higgins’ chances to play.
  • Higgins appeared on the injury report with a quad injury on Friday, throwing his status into doubt.
  • A report from ESPN’s Dan Graziano on Saturday night said there is “pessimism” around Higgins’ chances of playing.

How long will Tee Higgins be out?

Hard to say. Soft-tissue issues, usually the hamstrings, have chased him throughout his career. But the fact this popped on a Friday pretty much guarantees he’s on a snap count Sunday — and the week after could be in jeopardy too. No longer than four games though, otherwise he’d be on injured reserve.

Bengals WR depth chart

Ja’Marr Chase, Andrei Iosivas, Trenton Irwin, Jermaine Burton, Charlie Jones

Iosivas and potentially the rookie Burton will be asked to step up if Higgins can’t go.

Jayson Tatum Goes Off on How the Celtics Thrive in Crunchtime

Jayson Tatum Goes Off on How the Celtics Thrive in Crunchtime

Once upon a time, crunchtime was seen as the Celtics’ Achilles heel. However, the Celtics have since put those woes to bed, and they showed it when they beat the Pistons on October 26. While being neck-and-neck with them for most of the fourth quarter, the Celtics pulled through in the end, winning 124-118.

After the game, Jayson Tatum explained to reporters how the Celtics thrive in the closing minutes like they did against the Pistons despite their struggles to put them away.

“The fun part was that we figured out how to win. We were never rattled, never worried. We know what we’re supposed to do on offense, how to execute our late-game plays that we like to go to,” Tatum said.

Tatum then singled out two particular Celtics for their contributions while acknowledging that he enjoys persevering through their struggles.

“Jrue (Holiday) made some big shots at the end, and then (Derrick) White and Jrue made some big stops. It was just fun to be a part of those moments of ‘It’s not going well. It’s kind of ugly.’ We’re not rattled. We figure it out, and everybody plays a part in that.

With the win, the Celtics are now 3-0, which makes them one of only three teams to remain undefeated, joining the likes of the Lakers and Cavaliers.

This was also the first time in the 2024-25 season that the Celtics had to play their starters in the closing minutes. In fact, it was the first time Tatum played in a fourth quarter this season. The Pistons entered the season regarded as one of the worst NBA teams, but they made the Celtics earn the win.

Why the Falcons can cover

Three weeks ago, Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for 509 yards and four touchdowns in a stunning comeback effort by Atlanta against Tampa Bay. Top wide receiver Drake London had 12 catches for 154 yards and a score while No. 2 WR Darnell Mooney caught nine passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. While it’s unlikely that this week’s matchup will be as high scoring as we saw earlier this month, the Falcons definitely had their way with Tampa through the air.

A key for the Falcons going forward will be the success of top running back Bijan Robinson. Over the last two games, he has rushed for a combined 198 yards and three touchdowns, achieving two of his best performances this season to date. On the season, the second-year phenom has 684 combined yards and four touchdowns, and it would be to Atlanta’s benefit if they utilized their most elusive weapon more often going forward. See which team to pick here.

Why the Buccaneers can cover

Tampa Bay has an uphill battle after losing both of its top receivers to serious injuries on Monday night. Future Hall of Famer Mike Evans was lost to a hamstring injury in the second quarter vs. Baltimore and will miss at least the next three games. Chris Godwin, who led the team with 50 receptions and 576 yards, sustained a nasty ankle injury on the team’s final series in garbage time and will likely miss the rest of the 2024 season. But quarterback Baker Mayfield is playing well enough to overcome these crucial losses.

On the season, Mayfield has thrown for 1,859 yards and 18 touchdowns, which ranks second and first respectively in the league. Tampa Bay will utilize top running back Rachaad White as a receiving threat out of the backfield considering he had 549 yards through the air in 2023 and already 198 this season. Tight end Cade Otton, who ranks third on the team with 41 targets and 263 yards, should also expect to see more utilization at least until Evans returns. See which team to pick here.

How to make Falcons vs. Buccaneers picks

The model has simulated Atlanta vs. Tampa Bay 10,000 times and the results are in. It is leaning Over on the point total, and it also says one side of the spread hits more than 50% of the time. You can only see the model’s Falcons vs. Buccaneers pick at SportsLine.

So who wins Bucs vs. Falcons on Sunday, and which side of the spread hits more than 50% of the time? Visit SportsLine right now to see which side of the Falcons vs. Buccaneers spread you should be all over Sunday, all from the model on a 193-134 roll on its top-rated NFL picks, and find out.

Jenna Fischer Discusses Breast Cancer Diagnosis In 1st Interview: EXCLUSIVE

Jenna Fischer Discusses Breast Cancer Diagnosis In 1st Interview: EXCLUSIVE

Just over a week after Jenna Fischer publicly revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, the former “The Office” actor is opening up about her journey, treatment and how her mindset has shifted.

On Oct. 8, Fischer, 50, shared an Instagram post in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, revealing she had been diagnosed with Stage 1 triple-positive breast cancer in December 2023. She wrote that after undergoing surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, she’s now cancer free.

In a one-on-one conversation with TODAY’s Hoda Kotb, which aired on Oct. 21, Fischer said she hoped sharing her story will bring comfort and hope to another woman receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

The diagnosis

The actor told Hoda that in October 2023, she went in for her routine mammogram appointment that she had been putting off.

“Three weeks later, they said, ‘Oh, your mammogram was fine. There were a few spots that were difficult to see. You have very dense tissue. We would recommend that you do another mammogram and maybe follow up with a breast ultrasound,’” she said of the conversation with her doctor.

“I was like, ‘This is the appointment that won’t end,’” Fischer added, laughing.

She explained that she felt “no level of concern” when she went back for her breast ultrasound. However, they then asked her to do a biopsy, saying it likely was a “10% chance it’s cancerous.”

Fischer said she was on a hike by herself when she received the results via her patient portal.

“I checked the portal on the hike, and that’s when I saw words like ‘invasive,’ ‘ductal,’ ‘carcinoma,’ ‘malignant,’” she said. “And I was like, ‘Those words sound like cancer words.’”

She then called her husband, Lee Kirk, to tell him the results, though she wasn’t sure it was cancer until her doctor confirmed it later that same day.

When her doctor told her of her diagnosis, Fischer said she just felt “disbelief.”

“I think the word that really got me was when we found out that I was triple-positive and my oncologist said chemotherapy. That was when I really lost it,” she said.

Treatment

Fischer opened up to Hoda about the reality of losing her hair during chemotherapy, which she said was one of the side effects she was most concerned about.

“I started by having just a big bald patch down this side of my head. And I would kind of do a real elaborate comb-over,” she said, laughing. “I was like, ‘Oh, I understand why the gentlemen do this now. Yes, I can sort of pretend like that isn’t there for a while.’”

Although Fischer said she considered it, she never had a “big shave-your-head moment.” Aside from styling her new part, she said she also opted to wear more hats and wigs during treatment.

Leaning on her support system

When it came to sharing the news with friends and family, the “Hall Pass” actor revealed one of the first people she called after receiving her diagnosis: Christina Applegate.

“I called her, and she answered the phone, and she said, ‘Which one is it?’ And I said, ‘It’s breast cancer.’ And she said, ‘I effing knew it.’” Fischer recalled of their conversation. “She’s salty. Salty language that one. I love her for it.”

Fischer said Applegate put her in touch with fellow survivors and that they took on her journey “together.”

As for telling her children, Weston Lee, 13, and Harper Marie, 10, Fischer said she and her husband “sat them down” and were “very honest with them.”

“They’re 10 and they’re 13, and they were going to be living in the house while I went through this. They’re going to see it. And the biggest thing that I wanted them to know was that any ways that I seemed sick during this process were side effects of treatments. They weren’t cancer making me sick,” she said.

“That distinction, I think, really put them at ease. And then we just kind of did it together. And they were amazing.”

Where things stand

Along with chemotherapy, Fischer said she also underwent a lumpectomy and radiation. Following her latest screenings, the actor said she’s cancer free, though she’s continuing to take tamoxifen and Herceptin for the next year.

Fischer told Hoda that two saving graces during her experience were maintaining a sense of humor and normalcy.

“Humor helped through all of this. And working helped. And staying in the world helped,” she said. “My oncology nurse, Ron, was an amazing man. … When I started chemotherapy, he said to me, ‘Listen, I want you to get up every day, and I want you to walk. Every day.’”

“‘I want you to drink a ton of water. Walking and water. That’s what I want you to do. And I want you to take care of those kids. The women who get up and at it are the women who do better in my experience.’”

Fischer said some of the best advice she received was to “live your life during this process,” while also listening to her body.

“I did that,” she said. “And some days I just walked circles in my own living room. Some days I walked all around the block. But I did every day get up and do those things. And I think it made a really big difference.”

Looking back at the past year, Fischer told Hoda that one of the biggest lessons she’s learned is the impact of people taking care of other people.

“So many people took care of me, and my family, and my children, and I am so grateful for it — in so many small ways,” she said. “And the thing is, is that everybody had the right way or the perfect way to do it.”

Fischer explained that some friends put her chemotherapy schedule on their calendars, while others sent thoughtful texts and picked her kids up from school. She said her mother-in-law recorded prayers that she would send before treatments.

The mother of two said this entire journey caused her to look at the world through a new lens of gratitude.

“I liked that people were annoyed if I was late with an email,” she said. “I liked being regarded as my old self, so to speak.”

“All of the most important things became so clear so quickly. And the cool thing is that that focus never leaves. So I will get to carry that with me now. … I’ll say I find the world to be such a beautiful place in all of its quirkiness.”

Fischer added that everyday annoyances have suddenly become “charming” to her.

“Like, you know, just traffic. ‘Oh, look at you, cute traffic. Look at all the people just goin’ places,’” she said. “How great that I get to sit in traffic. How cool.”

Fischer’s final takeaway from her experience is a message to all women: “Please don’t skip your mammogram appointment. Please get all the extra screenings that the doctor wants you to get.”

She credits the success of her treatments to her early diagnosis, encouraging more people to book the “annoying” appointment.

“If I had waited six more months, it could have been much worse. It could have spread. It was a very aggressive form of cancer,” Fischer said. “I’m really lucky that my cancer had not spread into my lymph nodes. It hadn’t spread anywhere else in my body.”

“My tumor was still very small, too small to feel,” she added. “That’s the thing. A self-exam would not have (caught the cancer). It really was that routine mammogram that started all of this. And I’m so grateful that I went to that appointment.”

“I hope that hearing my story will be comforting to any women out there also on this journey,” Fischer posted on Instagram following the interview. “I’m still walking through this every day. But there are more good days than bad. Being able to put my experience to use somehow helps a lot.” She then encouraged her followers to get their breast exams done and talk to their doctors about calculating their Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score.
