Cardi B announces she is pregnant with third child after filing for divorce from Offset

Cardi B announced she is pregnant with her third child on Thursday, sharing images of herself in a flowing red gown that exposes her baby bump on social media. The 31-year-old shared the news just hours after she had filed for divorce from her estranged husband, Migos’ rapper Offset.

A representative for Cardi B confirmed to the Associated Press she filed for divorce writing, “This is not based on any one particular incident, it has been a long time coming and is amicable.” She filed the divorce on Wednesday, Entertainment Tonight reported.

In her post, Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Cephus, thanks her growing baby for helping her through a difficult time, saying: “It’s so much easier taking life’s twists, turns and test laying down, but you, your brother and your sister have shown me why it’s worth it to push through!”

“With every ending comes a new beginning! I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all renewed my power,” she wrote in the caption.

The hip-hop power couple married in 2017 and share two children. Offset, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, also has three children from previous relationships, according to Entertainment Tonight.

During an Instagram live in December, Cardi B revealed she was single and had been “for a minute now.” She and Offset have had several ups and downs in their relationship, with Cardi B filing for divorce twice previously.

Fans began speculating their relationship was on the rocks late last year when each rapper unfollowed the other on Instagram, ET reported.

Watch: Russia expected to release Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan in massive prisoner swap

American citizens Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich are expected to be part of a historic prisoner swap between Russia and the United States. Whelan, an ex-US marine, was arrested in Moscow in 2018, subsequently charged with espionage and sentenced to 16 years in prison. Evan Gershkovich, a journalist with the Wall Street Journal, was arrested in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2023 while on assignment, and also charged with espionage and sentenced to 16 years. The United States had designated both as wrongfully detained. CNN’s Alex Marquardt breaks downs the complexities and surrounding this prisoner exchange.

In one of the largest prisoner swaps between the United States, its allies and Russia since the end of the Cold War, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan are among more than a dozen prisoners released by Russia in exchange for Russian prisoners held by the United States and countries throughout Europe, U.S. officials said Thursday.

In all, under the deal, 16 political prisoners, journalists and others, including five Germans, are being exchanged for eight Russians jailed in the U.S., Germany, Norway, Slovenia and Poland. Among the Russians is Vadim Krasikov, a convicted Russian state assassin in German custody, as well as three other Russians in U.S. custody.

President Biden said the swap deal was “a feat of diplomacy” and thanked allies who worked with the United States on the deal. “This is a powerful example of why it’s vital to have friends in this world whom you can trust and depend on,” he said in a statement.

“Not since the Cold War has there been a similar number of individuals exchanged in this way,” said U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan, adding the exchange was the “culmination of many rounds of complex painstaking negotiations over many, many months.” Later on Thursday, Sullivan said President Biden would seek to build on the success to try to free Marc Fogel, a U.S. citizen still held in Russia, and other Americans held in Syria, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Those returning to the U.S. from Russia include Gershkovich, Whelan, Russian-American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva, who works for U.S.-funded Radio Free Europe, and Russian journalist and dissident Vladimir Kara-Murza, a U.S. permanent resident.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed appreciation to the Turkish government for “providing a location for the safe return of these individuals to the United States and Germany.”

The Turkish government said in a statement that it had played a key role and “conducted the most extensive prisoner exchange operation of recent times in Ankara,” involving not only Whelan and Gershkovich, but also Rico Krieger, whom it identified as a German mercenary imprisoned in Belarus; Russian dissident Ilya Yashin; and Vadim Krasikov, whom it identified as a colonel in the FSB, Russia’s internal security service.

The statement said the operation was conducted by MIT, the Turkish intelligence service.

Gershkovich was arrested in Moscow in March 2023 and became the first U.S. journalist since the Cold War to be charged with espionage. Last month, a Russian court sentenced him to 16 years in prison, after he was accused by the Russian prosecutor of working with the CIA to collect information on a Russian arms company. Gershkovich, his employer and the U.S. government strenuously denied the allegations, and the U.S. considered Gershkovich wrongfully detained.

In a statement, Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker said, “We can finally say, in unison, ‘Welcome home, Evan.’”

Whelan, a Marine Corps veteran who holds U.S., British, Irish and Canadian citizenship, was arrested in Russia in December 2018 on charges of espionage he strongly denied. On June 15, 2020, a Moscow court sentenced Whelan to 16 years in prison.

In a statement on Thursday, his family said: “Paul was held hostage for 2,043 days. His case was that of an American in peril, held by the Russian Federation as part of their blighted initiative to use humans as pawns to extract concessions … While Paul was wrongfully imprisoned in Russia, he lost his home. He lost his job. We are unsure how someone overcomes these losses and rejoins society after being a hostage. We are grateful for everyone’s efforts to help Paul while he was away. We hope you will continue to help him by providing Paul the space and privacy he needs as he rebuilds his life. It is Paul’s story to tell and he will tell it when he is able.”

Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy welcomed the release of Whelan and Kara-Murza, both of whom are British nationals. Mr Kara-Murza is a dedicated opponent of Putin’s regime,” Lammy said in a statement. “He should never have been in prison in the first place: the Russian authorities imprisoned him in life-threatening conditions because he courageously told the truth about the war in Ukraine.”

Stephen Capus, the president and CEO of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Alsu Kurmasheva’s employer, said in a statement: “Alsu was targeted because she was an American journalist who was simply trying to take care of a family member inside Russia. She did nothing wrong and certainly did not deserve the unjust treatment and forced separation from her loving family members and colleagues. Alsu’s release makes us even more determined to secure the freedom of three other RFE/RL journalists, cruelly imprisoned in Belarus and Russian-occupied Crimea. We will not rest until all our unjustly detained journalists are home safe. Journalism is not a crime.”

Vice President Kamala Harris was involved in some of the behind-the-scenes international diplomatic talks to reach the hostage release deal, a White House official told NPR. Harris met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in February on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference to try to advance negotiations, the official said. Harris raised the issue of Vadim Krasikov, who had been convicted in Germany — a prisoner viewed as critical to making a swap for American prisoners. Also in Munich, Harris met with Slovenia’s Prime Minister Robert Golob and raised the issue of two Russian nationals being held in a Slovenian prison.

President Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that the president spoke to the freed prisoners while they were on the tarmac in Ankara, where they were waiting on Thursday to board their flight back. He said both Biden and Vice President Harris would be present at Joint Base Andrews Thursday night, when a plane is due to land with Whelan, Gershkovich and Kurmasheva.

NPR’s Deepa Shivaram contributed to this report.

Vybz Kartel Released From Prison After 13 Years

Vybz Kartel is a free man. After 13 years behind bars, Vybz — born Adidja Azim Palmer — was released from prison on Wednesday.

Per FOX 5, the Jamaica Court of Appeal voted unanimously not to have a retrial in the 2011 murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams, which led to the dancehall star’s release along with his three co-defendants, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John.

Even though Williams’ body was never discovered, Vybz was convicted in the murder in 2014. Kartel and his co-defendants faced accusations of killing Williams over two unlicensed firearms that weren’t returned to them.

“We conclude that the interest of justice does not require a new trial to be ordered,” Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop stated, per BBC.

One of the reasons the court cited was also because of Vybz Kartel’s deteriorating health situation, as he’s been diagnosed with Graves’ Disease and a heart condition. FOX 5 also reported that the Jamaican icon was battling a thyroid disease, while his lawyers said his prison conditions were “inhumane.”

Vybz regaining his freedom became a possibility when the U.K.’s Privy Council overturned the conviction against him and the co-defendants in March, citing juror misconduct due to an alleged bribery attempt.

Once King Charles signed off on the matter, Vybz’s fate was back in the Jamaican Court of Appeal’s hands.

In addition to the “Summer Time” singer’s health situation, the appeal court said the amount of time and lack of witnesses and financial resources needed also played a role in the decision against a retrial.

A celebratory scene broke out as fans were sent into a frenzy outside the Jamaican courthouse after learning that Vybz Kartel would be walking away free.

Vybz Kartel has worked with Rihanna, Eminem and Jay-Z in the past. The 48-year-old artist has launched seven different projects into the Reggae Albums chart’s top 10. His most recent LP arrived in 2021 with Born Fi Dis (Prelude).

Former Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward announces retirement

04:57

BOSTON – Gordon Hayward, who spent three seasons with the Celtics after signing a large contract in free agency, announced his retirement on Thursday.

Hayward averaged just over 15 points per game for his career after being drafted by Utah out of Butler in 2010.

In 2017, Hayward signed a 4-year, $128 million deal to play in Boston. The Celtics planned to jumpstart their rebuild by pairing Hayward with Kyrie Irving, who they traded for in the same offseason.

Instead, Hayward suffered a gruesome ankle injury just minutes into his first regular season game with the Celtics and was forced to miss the entire season.

Hayward played two more years with the Celtics before going to the Charlotte Hornets in a sign-and-trade deal.

The 34-year-old released a statement announcing his decision.

“Today, I am officially retiring from the game of Basketball. It’s been an incredible ride and I’m so grateful to everyone who helped me achieve more than I ever imagined,” he said.

“As I move to spend more time with my family as a father and husband, I look forward to new adventures and challenges, taking with me the lessons I’ve learned on the court that will guide me across my next chapters, both in business and in life,” Hayward added.

While playing at Butler University, Hayward nearly led the Bulldogs to a miraculous upset over Duke in the 2010 national championship game. Hayward’s heave from halfcourt bounced off the rim, and the Blue Devils held on to win.

Cardi B Files for Divorce From Offset a Second Time

Cardi B has once again filed for divorce from Offset, her rep has confirmed to Billboard. The news, originally reported by Page Six, comes after seven years of marriage between the two hip-hop titans.

The “WAP” artist reportedly filed on Wednesday, requesting primary custody of their 5-year-old daughter Kulture and 2-year-old son Wave. According to Cardi’s rep, the divorce filing “is not based on any one particular incident, it has been a long time coming and is amicable.”

Cardi shared some happier news via Instagram on Thursday, posting two photos of a new baby bump and writing a message to her unborn third child thanking them for “more love, more life and most of all [renewing] my power!” She may have referenced the divorce filing in the caption too, writing, “With every ending comes a new beginning!”

The divorce news marks the second time Cardi has called for a divorce from Offset since they tied the knot in 2017. Cardi previously filed to legally end their marriage in September 2020, explaining to fans at the time that it wasn’t “because of cheating” — although their relationship has been wrought with infidelity rumors on the Migos rapper’s end since nearly the beginning.

“I just got tired of f—ing arguing,” she added at the time. “I got tired of not seeing things eye to eye.”

Within a month, however, Cardi revealed that she and the “Stir Fry” rapper had sorted things out, and the case was dismissed in the early days of November 2020. “It’s hard not to talk to your best friend,” she said on Instagram Live of the rekindling. “It’s really hard not to talk to your best friend. And it’s really hard to have no di–.”

Over the next four years, their romance survived a few more rough patches — more cheating rumors, plus a social media squabble between the spouses — before Cardi finally confirmed that they had split once more. “I’ve been single for a minute now,” she said on Live in December 2023.

Fans have been hopeful these past few months, however, that the couple were again smoothing things over. They spent New Year’s together, and Offset directed Cardi’s “Like What (Freestyle)” music video in March; plus, they were spotted on a date at a New York Knicks game in April before the “I Like It” musician thanked her estranged husband for showering her with Mother’s Day gifts in May.

Cardi has been the first to admit that her relationship with Offset has always been complicated, telling Rolling Stone in May, “We’re best friends … It’s not even about ‘How do you leave a partner?’ How do you stop talking to your best friend?”

BATMAN: Caped Crusader REVIEW | Bringing “Animated Series” Magic Back to the Streets – Cinelinx

During my childhood, one show that stuck with me through all the bad times was Batman: The Animated series. Though the series only lasted roughly three seasons, having cast members like Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy that were so passionate about their roles helped showcase the serious tones of the Animated series.

This was not just another Saturday morning cartoon, this was a journey into the world of Batman never seen before. After the passing on the legendary Kevin Conroy, I did not know for sure if the show could go on without the voice of Batman.

After moving from HBO, to PRIME Video, JJ Abrams, Bruce Timm(Original Co-Creator/Animator of Batman Animated series), and Matt Reeves(Producer of The Batman 2022) had the large task of creating a show that had the same feeling that Bruce Timm showcased in the 90s Batman: The Animated Series. So the question is, does it live up? Lets find out now in this spoiler free review…

First we must talk about when this show takes place and why it matters in comparison to the previously release animated series. Yes, this series is created by some of the team behind the Batman animated series, but this is not an actual prequel. The series is set in the 1940s and depicts Batman early in his career whilst also having to take on villains and challenges on this own.

This is before the time of super-powered super-villains, but is also before the introduction of characters like Flash, Wonder Woman, Superman, and others. This means that Batman has to face off against more real world, gang like crime-lords, giving the world’s greatest detective just the challenge he needs to start his career in crime fighting.

The overall tone of the show is also fairly dark and gives new viewers a feel of what was great about the classic animated series. Its serious tones in the storytelling make this series feel more cinematic and less childlike, while also featuring wonderful sprawling stories that feature a side of Batman that is more vulnerable and less experienced.

This series is also the reintroduction of sub-characters like Commissioner Gordon, Harley Quinn, Penguin, and more. This showcases that this is set in a different universe as the original, but also adds a fresh new take on the series. A female Penguin named Oswalda Cobblepot, an asian american version of Harley Quinn, FireBug(FireFly), and more made the show feel like something new while keeping some of the classic villains still in the limelight.

Moving on from that, the casting in the series is seriously one of the biggest shocks for me. With actors like Minnie Driver, Christina Ricci, and Jamie Chung leading the way on the villain side of things, the casting director had a large task at finding the perfect fit for Batman. Hamish Linklater was casted as Batman and does an amazing job taking up the mantel Kevin Conroy built.

As the series goes on, I found myself heavily engrossed in the series like I once was as a child. Linklater does a fantastic job portraying the Caped Crusader and with such an amazing supporting cast DC should be damn proud of what Timm and the crew have created here.

Royals Rumblings – News for August 1, 2024

Hello Royals Review! I’m a dumb guy and totally dropped the ball on getting today’s rumblings put together. You will see this page populate with links as I find things to put in.

Brady Singer settled in nicely after a rocky second inning yesterday:

Singer delivered his third consecutive start of seven innings, allowing three runs on Wednesday. All of those runs came in the second inning, but Singer got a big shutdown inning in the third after the Royals retook the lead in the top of the frame and settled down after that. He retired 15 of the final 17 batters he faced and didn’t allow another run.

“Don’t do it again,” Singer said of his mindset after the three-run second inning. “They gave me three runs there in the first, and in the second, I gave up three. They came back and helped me out.

“… I think I lost the sinker a little bit, wasn’t getting the movement that I usually get on it. So just tried to battle it out a little bit and make good pitches.”

New Royal Lucas Erceg has gone through a lot over the last few years:

Erceg switched to pitching in 2021 as he hit a wall as a batter. That came one year after he gave up drinking. An MLB.com story noted he had 6/10/20 embroidered on his glove to mark the “first date of Erceg’s sobriety.”

Erceg has also spoken about dealing with depression. Rather than shy away from talking about those chapters in his life, Erceg said they have helped him.

“It means everything,” Erceg said. “I always like to talk about just having a little bit of perspective and not fully knowing what tomorrow is gonna bring, but I know if I bring a positive mindset to the field every day or to dinner every day or whatever it is, if you have a positive mindset, good things are gonna happen. You’re gonna enjoy it.”

Clayton Kershaw had his first career start without a strikeout last night as the Padres swept the Dodgers to win the season series for the first time since 2010.

Baltimore’s Jackson Holliday hit a grand slam for his first career homer.

Old friend Brett Phillips is attempting to return to the majors as a pitcher.

The MLB trade deadline is unlikely to move to later in the season anytime soon. ($)

Pinellas County has officially agreed to a deal with the Rays for a new ballpark in downtown St. Petersburg.

Italian silver medalist Giorgia Villa is making waves for her Parmigiano Reggiano sponsorship.

The infamous Independence Avenue bridge has been painted with new murals highlighting its destruction of trucks.

StubHub is being sued over their convoluted junk fee scheme.
