Get ready for Sunday’s matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders vs. the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.

Fans are keeping a close eye on Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who has been recovering from an ankle injury. Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters this week that Kupp’s recovery is “trending in the right direction” and didn’t rule out a return on Sunday.

“He’s feeling good, and the important thing is, what we’ve got to dictate and determine is, is he going to be ready to play like Cooper Kupp’s capable of playing? He’s making good progress. I think we’ll get a good feel. This will be the first time that you’re able to do football-like movements in some of the individual settings,” McVay said.

Meanwhile, the Raiders are navigating the field without wide receiver Davante Adams after agreeing to trade him to the New York Jets. Adams had been out the past few games with a hamstring injury.

Keep reading to find out how and when to watch the Las Vegas Raiders vs. the Los Angeles Rams game today.

Report – NBC Los Angeles

Report – NBC Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Clippers will be without their best player when they break ground at their new arena next week and could be without him for the foreseeable future.

Kawhi Leonard will be sidelined indefinitely to start the 2024-25 season as he continues to rehabilitate from inflammation in his right knee, ESPN’s Shams Charania and Ohm Youngmisuk reported on Thursday.

The two-time NBA Finals MVP has a long injury history, including a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2021-22 season and a torn meniscus suffered during the 2023 first round.

Leonard is coming off an All-Star season in which he played 68 regular season games, his most since the 2016-17 campaign. Still, the injury bug was back by the most important part of the Clippers’ season last spring.

He first dealt with the knee inflammation in a March 31 win over the Charlotte Hornets, and the ailment lingered into the playoffs. He missed the final eight games of the regular season and four games of the Clippers’ first-round series against the Dallas Mavericks, which the Mavericks went on to win in six games.

Leonard was also named to Team USA this summer but was replaced by Boston Celtics guard Derrick White on the Olympic roster that went on to win gold in Paris. USA Basketball said at the time that Leonard “respects that USA Basketball and the Clippers determined it’s in his best interest to spend the remainder of the summer preparing for the upcoming season rather than participating in the Olympic Games in Paris.”

The 33-year-old forward has not played for the Clippers this preseason and did not participate in any on-court, contact activities during training camp.

The Clippers will open the season by hosting the Phoenix Suns in the first regular season game at their new home, the Intuit Dome, on Wednesday.

Here are important dates for the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.

Thieves steal watch from Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler – NBC Los Angeles

Thieves steal watch from Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler – NBC Los Angeles

A group of thieves surrounded at least three Santa Anita Park visitors, including Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler, and slipped off their wristwatches in a series of distraction thefts at the racetrack in Arcadia, California.

In each case reported in late September, the victim was walking in a large crowd at the park east of Los Angeles when they were approached by the thieves, some of whom distracted the victim as an accomplice removed the watch.

Buehler, who is scheduled to start Game 3 of the Dodgers’ National League Division Series Tuesday night in San Diego, was at the horse racing track Sept. 27 with his wife McKenzie when he was robbed, Excel Sports Management said in a statement. Thieves surrounded Buehler and took the pricey wristwatch from his arm.

“While walking from the paddock to their seats, Walker was unknowingly the victim of a snatch and grab robbery of his watch,” Excel Sports Management said in the statement. “The incident was reported to police and is currently under investigation. We are grateful Walker and McKenzie were not harmed and Walker is focused on the playoffs.”

Buehler, who grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, has a micro-share ownership in Authentic, the 2020 Kentucky Derby champion. He was at the track with other players who did not travel to Colorado for the Dodgers’ final series of the season, Excel Sports Management said.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was asked Tuesday about the robbery.

“It happened a couple of weeks ago, so it’s old news for Walker,” said Roberts. “I’m happy that he’s safe, but it just keeps us all on alert that things like this can happy. What a scary time.

“You can always replace a watch, but it wasn’t a cheap watch.”

One of the watches targeted in the robberies was estimated at about $100,000. Another was valued at $250,000, police said

Here’s everything to know about the American and National League Division Series for the 2024 MLB postseason.

Arcadia police issued a news release Tuesday with details about the three distraction robberies reported on the same weekend at Santa Anita Park. In one theft, the victim was walking with a large group when the thieves surrounded them.

“While the movement of the victim was limited, one of the suspects was able to remove the victim’s watch from their wrist,” the Arcadia Police Department said in a statement.

The victim did not realize the watch was missing until the thieves left the area, police said. There was no indication that the thieves threatened the victim during the theft.

A similar crime was reported by another person later that same day. The victim in that case did not notice the watch was missing until several hours later, police said.

In a third case that day, the victim was approached by a group of thieves, one of whom attempted to hug the victim. A second thief began to remove their watch, but the victim noticed.

“The victim felt his watch being removed and confronted the suspects, who immediately left the area,” police said.

The man notified park security and police, who took one person into custody. The 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and being in possession of a fraudulent social security cards

“We are fully cooperating with the Arcadia Police Department’s investigation,” Santa Anita Park said in a statement.

Los Angeles Dodgers shut down Clayton Kershaw for postseason

LOS ANGELES — Clayton Kershaw, who has spent the past five weeks rehabbing an ailing toe, will not pitch this postseason no matter how far the Los Angeles Dodgers advance.

“We’re closing the door,” Roberts said before his club’s 7-5 win over the San Diego Padres in Game 1 of the National League Division Series. “Clayton has done everything he can to keep this thing moving forward and giving himself a chance to participate in the postseason. But where he’s at right now, physically, the foot, the toe just is not cooperating.”

Kershaw underwent shoulder surgery last offseason and didn’t make his season debut until July 25, then exited his Aug. 30 start in the second inning with what was subsequently diagnosed as a bone spur in his left big toe. Kershaw continued to keep his pitching arm active and had his spikes readjusted to help compensate for the pain in his tender toe. But his throwing progression was put on hold last week because compensating for it was triggering pain in other parts of his body as he went through his delivery.

“It was getting pretty mentally exhausting to continue to try to pitch,” Kershaw said. “It just kept hurting, so I got another MRI. I made it worse, so there’s no point at this point to keep going. It’s unfortunate. Obviously, super frustrated. That’s really it. It’s not getting better, so I can’t pitch.”

The Dodgers went with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Jack Flaherty, Walker Buehler and Landon Knack as their starters for their NLDS showdown against the rival Padres, with Yamamoto and Flaherty starting Games 1 and 2, respectively. The only mildly surprising roster decision was going with rookie right-hander Edgardo Henriquez, who has made only three appearances but throws his fastball in the triple digits, over veteran Joe Kelly.

Roberts revealed Kelly suffered a shoulder injury while throwing a changeup on the last pitch of a simulated game earlier this week. Kelly’s shoulder injury is similar to the one suffered by Brusdar Graterol, an ailment that opened a spot for another young right-hander in Michael Grove. The Dodgers’ only chance of having Kelly available will be if they advance to the World Series; Roberts said he would not be available for the NL Championship Series either.

When the Dodgers’ season ends, Kershaw, who might need surgery on his left big toe, will once again contemplate whether he’ll retire or pitch the following season. His contract includes a $5 million player option that comes with up to $20 million in additional performance incentives.

“My shoulder feels great, back feels great, all that stuff,” Kershaw, 36, said. “I don’t know. Obviously, I don’t want to keep getting hurt all the time. It’s not fun to do that. But I also really love to pitch too. Just got to weigh everything and talk about it, figure it out.”

Dodgers leave Freddie Freeman in Los Angeles to rest a sore right ankle ahead of the playoffs

DENVER (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman didn’t make the trip to Colorado for a three-game series against the Rockies to close out the regular season so he could rest a sore ankle.

The All-Star slugger left Thursday’s NL West-clinching game in the seventh inning after rolling his right foot trying to avoid a tag at first base by San Diego’s Luis Arráez. Freeman was on crutches and in a walking boot following the game. In addition, the Dodgers left shortstop Miguel Rojas at home due to a torn adductor.

“Obviously, traveling to altitude didn’t make sense,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday before the start of the series.

Roberts can’t envision a scenario where the Dodgers don’t have Freeman hitting third or fourth in the lineup come the National League Division Series next weekend. Freeman is hitting .282 this season with 22 homers and 89 RBIs.

“I mean, he’s just such a warrior,” Roberts said. “He’s going to do anything he can.”

Roberts said he, too, is rounding back into form following the Dodgers’ NL West-clinching win Thursday over San Diego.

“I’m tired. I don’t feel hungover, which is good,” Roberts said. “I feel good. I’m excited that tonight, it’s not like a do-or-die game. That feels really relieving, actually.”

The Dodgers have secured a first-round bye in the postseason but they’re trying to fend off the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL’s top seed.

“I think it’s more of just the idea of letting things play out the way they’re going to,” Roberts said of chasing the No. 1 seed. “I think for us, the most important thing is to take care of our relievers, get them ready for the division series, get them out of here healthy.

“Still, we’re always playing to win.”

That’s why, Roberts said, the plan is to play Shohei Ohtani all three games in the series. Ohtani enters the final weekend with 53 homers and 56 stolen bases.

“He’s had a tremendous season,” Roberts said. “And when you get to the 1-yard line on certain statistics, whether it be a potential Triple Crown, a 60-60 (season), whatever it might be, stealing 60 bases, you want to try to get there as best you can. So I’m sure he’s going to want to be in there all three games.”

Roberts plans to give his team two days off early next week.

“I just want to encourage guys to stay away and then come back hungry, excited to get back to work,” Roberts said. “I just feel they played a lot of baseball this year.”

Takeaways from Los Angeles’ 20-10 loss

Charles LeClaire-Imagn Images

With the game tied at 10 in the third quarter after the Herbert injury, the Chargers had Pittsburgh backed up on their own 15 yard line with an opportunity to keep LA in the game. On third and 4, tight end Pat Freiermuth caught a 15 yard pass and was facemasked by James, tacking on an additional 15 yards. Three plays later, Justin Fields got the ball away to Pickens on a curl route to the outside that Fulton stopped short of the sticks, but Khalil Mack was flagged for a roughing the passer that gave the Steelers a first down.

On the following third down four plays later, Fields was sacked by Tuli Tuipulotu that would have forced the Steelers into a 42 yard field goal. Asante Samuel Jr. was called for holding on Pickens after being beat on a corner route, however, refreshing the downs for the Steelers.

While Pittsburgh still ended up kicking a field goal to go up 13-10, the drive took 6:26 off the clock and forced the Chargers into playing from behind with Heinicke under center. It tilted the time of possession battle in favor of the Steelers as well, as they ended up holding the ball for 33:51 of the game.
