Packers vs. Jaguars predictions, picks, odds

Prediction: In many ways, the Jaguars look more talented on paper than the AFC South-leading Texans, especially considering all the injuries Houston was dealing with during the trip to Green Bay last week. The Packers say they aren’t taking this trip to Jacksonville lightly, but they have to prove it Sunday. This is an important test for a young but maturing team — can you go on the road and take care of business against what appears to be an inferior opponent, especially after an emotional home win last Sunday? Games against the Giants and Panthers late last year were disappointing but also immature performances. The difference in 2024? Jeff Hafley’s aggressive style on defense, and the blossoming confidence of Jordan Love and the offense. I think the Packers show why they are a different level of contender with a commanding performance on the road. Packers 30, Jaguars 20

The Houston Texans (5-2) will battle the Indianapolis Colts (4-3) on Sunday in Week 8 at NRG Stadium for bragging rights in the AFC South. The Colts have been a thorn in the Texans’ side for years, especially when Pro Bowl running Jonathan Taylor starts to pick up steam.

With a win, the Texans would secure a .500 or better record in the AFC South standings. They also would remain No. 2 in the AFC overall standings behind Kansas City and tied with Buffalo.

For the Colts, a win now put them in a tie for first place in the division at 2-1. Anthony Richardson scored a pair of touchdowns last time he entered NRG Stadium and was well on his way to a career afternoon before leaving with a concussion in the first quarter.

If you’re a fan of MVP quarterbacks, look no further than Lambeau Field for the matchup of the afternoon.

The Houston Texans travel north for what could be a potential Super Bowl preview against the Green Bay Packers. Sitting at 5-1, a win for the Texans could mark the best start since 2012 thanks to stellar play from second-year gunslinger C.J. Stroud.

Meanwhile, the Packers remain in the hunt for the NFC North division behind second-year starter Jordan Love. Both passers entered the season as potential All-Pro options and favorites to win the league’s Most Valuable Player Award. A victory could solidify their status as a candidate to win the award, while the loser must pivot to potentially save their season.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields looks for an open receiver during the first half of an NFL football game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, in Pittsburgh.

NFL Week 4 odds, picks

Post sports gambling editor/producer and digital sports editor Matt Ehalt is in his first season in the Bettor’s Guide.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-1.5) over INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

We originally had the Steelers covering at home over the Chargers last week but swapped at the last minute to the Buccaneers laying 6.5 points to the woeful Broncos.

That went about as well as Anthony Richardson’s passing.

Anyway, this week we’ll back the Steelers as road favorites against a Colts team that is scuffling.

Indianapolis’ home win over the Bears last week barely inspired confidence, featuring one of the worst interceptions you’ll ever see from Richardson.

Facing a Steelers defense leading the league in yards allowed per game is not a rebound situation for a quarterback who is off his game.

As Richardson struggles, Justin Fields is saving his career in the Steel City, and this may be the week we truly see him show his dual-threat form against a Colts team allowing 179 rushing yards per game.

Expect Pittsburgh to win a tight one on the road.

Washington Commanders (+3.5) over ARIZONA CARDINALS

Getting the hook here has us willing to back the Commanders in the desert.

We acknowledge that Marvin Harrison Jr., if healthy, is going to go off since every No. 1 receiver to face the Commanders this year has popped — Mike Evans (six catches for 61 yards, two touchdowns), Malik Nabers (10-127-1) and Ja’Marr Chase (6-118-2).

The flip side is the Cardinals defense isn’t poised to stop Jayden Daniels, who has led 14 straight scoring drives following Monday’s heroics against the Bengals.

Betting on the NFL?

If he’s truly established a rapport with Terry McLaurin, the Commanders offense could be quite good this year.

There’s definitely a chance for an outright upset in this one, but we like Washington’s chances to keep it close regardless.

The Cardinals also may be without tight end Trey McBride, who is in concussion protocol.

Last week: 1-1. Colts (W), Buccaneers (L)
Season: 1-5.

Tottenham will have its depth tested Sunday at home.

Tottenham vs. Arsenal predictions, odds: Premier League picks, bets

One of the great rivalries in all of sports gets renewed on Sunday when Arsenal visits Tottenham Hostpur in the Premier League.

The North London Derby is one of the most anticipated fixtures on the calendar each year and this one should have some extra punch since both clubs are projected for big things this season.

Arsenal came into the season as the second-favorite to win the Premier League, so it’s no surprise to see them favored on the road on Sunday morning.

Let’s dive in.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham prediction

The first thing to note about this contest is that both teams are dealing with injuries/suspensions.

Declan Rice, perhaps Arsenal’s most vital player, is out and so is playmaking dynamo Martin Odegaard. The Gunners have other injuries on their backline, but Rice and Odegaard being on the sidelines drastically changes this outfit.

Tottenham’s depth will also be tested with attacking options Richarlison and Dominic Solanke doubtful to feature.

The other issue for handicappers to consider is that this is the first match after the international break.

Both Arsenal and Spurs have players who spent the last fortnight traveling around the globe in order to fulfill their duties with their respective national teams. You could argue that these stars are used to this issue by now, but it will still take its toll.

Stylistically, this match asks a pretty fun question.

Arsenal is built to control matches and dominate possession, while Spurs prefer a more chaotic approach that sees the ball move quickly and often. It will be a struggle for both teams to try and get the game on their terms and that could create a pretty herky-jerky tempo.

Normally, you want to target draws in matches that project to be low-event, but given the circumstances of this contest I think there’s reason to believe that this game won’t get out of first gear.

The international break is a factor, both clubs are dealing with injuries that would dampen their expectations to win and the stylistic matchup could turn this into a lumbering 90 minutes.

Betting Guide: 5 Tips for Colorado vs. Nebraska

We’re two short days away from what’s perhaps Colorado’s most important game of the 2024 season. The Buffs will make the trip up to Lincoln for a week two matchup with the Nebraska Cornhuskers, rekindling one of college football’s most historic rivalries. Millions of eyes will be on Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes when they play on national TV this Saturday, which means a lot of people will throw a couple of bucks on this game. Here are some quick tips to help your betting experience go as smoothly as possible!

Tip #1: Stay away from the spread. (Nebraska -7)

Most sportsbooks are setting the spread around Nebraska -7, netting you -105 odds if you bet the Buffs to cover. As much as I hate to admit it, I think Vegas has got this one spot on. Favoring the Huskers by a touchdown feels correct heading into this game.

Betting on the spread for this game is just too risky in my eyes. Both teams completely transformed themselves from 2023 and their 2024 sample size is just too small after one week. We have no clue how these teams will look against top-level talent.

This game could be a blowout in either direction. It could also be a nail-biter that comes down to the final seconds. Nobody knows what to expect from this matchup because these teams are so unproven. If somebody tells you they’re confident about this game’s outcome, they’re lying.

tl;dr, this game is incredibly unpredictable, which doesn’t lend itself well to betting on the spread. Instead, I recommend just betting Colorado moneyline at +215. That’s a way better bang for your buck anyway.

Tip #2: Bet the over. (U/O 59)

The over/under for this matchup is set at around 59 points for most sportsbooks. I’m of the firm belief that the over is going to hit on Saturday.

Simply put, Colorado’s offense is explosive. Shedeur Sanders was lethal in week one against NDSU, dishing the ball out to Travis Hunter and Jimmy Horn with ease. Expect them to put points on the board against a pretty run-of-the-mill Nebraska secondary.

Nebraska should win the rushing battle on Saturday, with their stellar offensive line and rotation of established running backs. Colorado’s defense struggles against NDSU, and Nebraska isn’t going to be any worse than the Bison.

Both teams shouldn’t have too much trouble putting points up. Unless one team continues to turn the ball over constantly (looking at you Jeff Simms), the Buffs and Huskers should put 30 points each. My final score prediction is 38-31, hitting the over by a pretty significant margin.

Tip #3: Don’t bet on Colorado’s running backs

Colorado had trouble establishing the run game last week against NDSU and Nebraska has an elite defensive line. That’s not a recipe for success for the Buffs and a huge tell for sports bettors.

Go into Saturday’s game with the expectation that Colorado isn’t going to be able to run the ball, plain and simple. If they couldn’t against the Bison last week, they won’t be able to against the Huskers. It’s probably a good idea to stay away from betting on Colorado’s running backs altogether and save your money on other bets that stand a better chance to hit.

Tip 4: Bet on Shedeur Sanders to ball out

Because the Buffs probably will have trouble on the ground against Nebraska, they’ll have to rely on Shedeur Sanders to drive them down the field. That means that he’ll probably get 40+ passing attempts, which would allow the Colorado quarterback to put up insane stats.

Admittedly, the lines for Shedeur’s passing yards aren’t that great on their own (only -575 for 250+ and -115 for 311+). When you parlay those with other bets, you can start to maximize the value of those lines a bit.

A parlay of Colorado moneyline, the total points over, and Shedeur Sanders 300+ passing yards has odds of +550 at the time of writing this. That’s a pretty good base! you can even throw some other stuff in there, like a Travis Hunter or Will Sheppard touchdown if you’re feeling extra spicy.

Bonus Tip: Bet on Will Sheppard anytime touchdown

This is my gut-feeling pick for the week. Sheppard had a quiet week against NDSU, but I have a feeling he’ll have a great game in Lincoln.

Sheppard is by far the biggest and most physical receiver on the roster. With Colorado’s assumed inability to work on the ground, his size could be an asset to the Buffs. Putting Sheppard on shorter routes could be a reliable way to pick up yards if the run game doesn’t work.

Speeding past Nebraska’s secondary isn’t going to work like last week against the Bison either, so Shedeur might have to rely more on Sheppard’s 6-foot-3 frame for 50/50 balls. In short, be on the lookout for a big game from Colorado’s X receiver.

Jannik Sinner enters his quarterfinal match at the US Open ranked No. 1 in the world.

Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev prediction: US Open odds, picks

The two best players left in the men’s field at the 2024 US Open will meet Wednesday night.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner, in search of his second career Grand Slam title and first US Open, is a -300 favorite against 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev.

Both players were imperious in their victories in the Round of 16 and have lost just one set en route to the quarterfinals. In other words, Wednesday’s match should be a box-office hit.

Let’s dive a little deeper into the match and make a pick.

Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev odds

Player Moneyline Total Games
Jannik Sinner -300 o38.5 (-120)
Daniil Medvedev +230 u38.5 (-110)

Sinner vs. Medvedev prediction

Sinner entered the 2024 US Open as one of the favorites, but he also was under the microscope after news broke that he tested positive for a banned substance in March.

The 2024 Australian Open champion was cleared by a tribunal, but it was still a moment that shook the sport and put added pressure on the Italian.

And it looked like the situation could have turned even more dramatic when Sinner lost the first set to Mackenzie McDonald in Round 1.

But Sinner recalibrated from there and has won 12 sets on the spin, including eight by at least four games.

Medvedev also dropped a set in his first-round match, but he’s hardly been challenged in this tournament beyond that. The Russian has won 10 of his 12 sets by at least three games.

Medvedev also has plenty of positive experience to draw upon in this situation. Not only does he have a US Open Trophy on his mantle, but he’s also been to the semifinals in four of his last five trips to Queens.

There are also some stylistic details that the Russian can draw upon in this contest. Like Sinner, Medvedev is an elite defensive player who boasts all-world court coverage.

Sinner wallops the ball, but Medvedev is one of a few players on the planet who can match that power with his defense.

Check Out the Best Sports Betting Sites and Apps

Sinner has been terrific, but Medvedev has been right there with him during this fortnight and will be able to answer some difficult questions of the World No. 1.

This should be a grind and that puts value on Medvedev, who has no issue going deep into the New York night to get the job done.

The bet: Daniil Medvedev (+230, DraftKings)
