Browns vs. Commanders Livestream: How to Watch NFL Week 5 Online Today

Sling TV Blue: $45 (in some markets $40)

There’s very little reason to watch the Cleveland Browns this season. They’ve failed to score 20 points in any of their four games, three of which have been losses. They also employ the one of the least effective quarterbacks in the league who, it must be noted, has yet again been accused of sexual assault and somehow is still starting NFL games.

Things are much rosier for the Commanders, who have won three straight behind the stellar play of Jayden Daniels. The rookie quarterback has burst onto the NFL scene by completing more than 80% of his passes while throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for four more over the first month of his pro career.

The Browns and Commanders are set to kick off in Maryland at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Fox. Here’s how you can watch, even if the game isn’t available on your local Fox channel.

Browns vs. Commanders game today: When and where?

This matchup sees the Commanders host the Browns at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Sunday. The game will take place at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland, home of the Commanders.

How to watch the Browns vs. Commanders game online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the game locally due to incorrectly applied blackout restrictions, you may need a different way to watch the game and that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, plus it’s a great idea for when you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US and Canada, as long as you’ve got a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

ExpressVPN is our current best VPN pick for people who want a reliable and safe VPN, and it works on a variety of devices. It’s normally $13 a month, but if you sign up for an annual subscription for $100 you’ll get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 a month with code SPECIALDEAL, which should be automatically applied.

Note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

How to watch Browns vs. Commanders in the US

Sunday’s Browns vs. Commanders game is on Fox nationally. The good news for football fans is that Fox is available on most of the major live TV streaming services. The least expensive such service is Sling TV Blue.

Sling/CNET

Sling TV’s Blue plan includes NBC, Fox and the NFL Network, though it does not have CBS, ABC or ESPN. Enter your address here to see which local channels are available where you live. NFL RedZone is also available for an extra $11 a month.

Note that to get ABC and ESPN, you’ll need to switch to the similarly priced Orange plan (which drops Fox, NBC and NFL Network) or go for the combined $60 a month Orange and Blue bundle that includes channels from both packages. With the combined plan, the Sports Extra add-on, which has RedZone, is an extra $15 a month.

One important caveat: In our experience, Fox local affiliates will only be available if your billing address is in one of the 18 metropolitan areas covered in Sling’s agreement. If you’re outside of one of these areas, you’re probably better off going with one of the alternate services listed below.

Numerous other live TV streaming services carry local Fox stations as well, namely YouTube TV, Hulu Plus Live TV, DirecTV Stream and Fubo. They all cost far more than Sling, but they also carry a full complement of live channels, including football broadcasting channels like CBS and ESPN. Check out our live TV streaming services guide for details.

Sarah Tew/CNET

For $73 a month, you’ll get all the major football channels with YouTube TV. Plus, RedZone is available for an extra $11 per month. Plug in your ZIP code on YouTube TV’s welcome page to see which local networks are available in your area.

Fubo

Fubo costs at least $92 per month when you factor in the RSN fees it charges, which you don’t need for NFL games but must pay for anyway. Fubo’s base plan costs $80 but it charges an extra $12 a month if you get one RSN or $15 a month if you have two or more in your area. RedZone is available for an extra $11 per month, and you can get 4K broadcasts with its $90-a-month Elite plan. It’s worth noting that Fubo has recently introduced a new $30 off for the first month offer for its Pro, Elite With Sports Plus and Deluxe plans. Click here to see which local channels you get in your region with Fubo. Read our Fubo review.

DirecTV

All the live TV streaming services above offer free trials, allow you to cancel anytime and require a solid internet connection. Looking for more information? Check out our live TV streaming services guide.

An over-the-air antenna connected to your TV provides another option for Fox. The best part about antennas is that there are no streaming or monthly fees required, although you will need to make sure you have good reception.

Quick tips for streaming the Browns vs. Commanders game using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — experience and success may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.

Browns’ ‘new’ offense for QB Deshaun Watson lacking imagination, identity, consistency

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Browns switched coordinators during the offseason to rebuild their offense so it better suited quarterback Deshaun Watson.

After three games, there are no detectable signs of progress.

In fact, Cleveland’s offense lacks imagination, an identity or any real consistency, unless you count Watson taking a weekly pounding due to a lack of pocket protection and his seeming inability to recognize coverages.

With more run-pass options (RPOs), shotgun formations and multiple-wide receiver packages, the offense was supposed to operate better, not worse. It was supposed to complement Watson’s skill set, not stifle it.

The Browns have scored 17, 18 and 15 points, respectively, in their three games. They’re averaging 248 total yards, with only New England getting fewer.

It’s still early, and coach Kevin Stefanski has stressed patience. But there are reasons to believe things may not improve any time soon.

Let’s start with Watson. While he’s made some strong throws, and he doesn’t appear to be limited by his surgically repaired shoulder, his accuracy and timing are off and he’s not completing any deep balls.

Watson’s longest completion in Sunday’s 21-15 loss to the New York Giants came on his first throw.

More troubling, Watson was sacked eight times, took 17 other hits and spent most of the afternoon scrambling for safety. Through three games, Watson has been sacked a league-high 16 times, and the blitzes will keep coming until the Browns show they can stop them.

Some of it’s his fault for holding the ball too long. Some of it’s on an offensive line that’s now ravaged by injuries. And some of the blame has to go to Stefanski, first-year coordinator Ken Dorsey and their play design.

“It’s everybody,” Stefanski said Monday. “It’s from myself, the coaches, the offensive line, tight ends, running backs, wide receivers, quarterbacks. It’s everybody. And everybody has a job to do in order to keep the quarterback clean.”

The running game is stuck in neutral.

Cleveland couldn’t get anything going on the ground in the first half, and the offensive line’s inability to get any push or open holes, coupled with playing from behind, prevented Stefanski from committing to the run.

Making matters worse, the Browns are without Pro Bowl tight end David Njoku, who missed his second straight game with a sprained ankle. He’s arguably the team’s top playmaker, Watson’s security blanket and a weapon Stefanski loves to deploy.

Njoku can’t be counted on to save Cleveland’s offense.

But someone had better — soon.

What’s working

At least Watson was able to reconnect with Amari Cooper, who had seven catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns — including one on Cleveland’s first offensive play.

Cooper’s lack of production in the first two weeks (five receptions, 27 yards and two critical drops) had been a concern, but the team’s No. 1 wide receiver promised a dramatic improvement and delivered.

What needs help

The offensive line is in shambles, and will be at less than full strength for several weeks with left guard Wyatt Teller expected to go on injured reserve with a sprained knee ligament suffered Sunday.

Teller’s injury, along with those to left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr. (knee) and backup tackle James Hudson III (shoulder), forced a complete makeover in the second half. Jack Conklin had been expected to return following reconstructive knee surgery last year, but he suffered a hamstring injury late in the week at practice.

Also, right tackle Dawand Jones, who is dealing with knee issues, was benched at halftime before being needed when Hudson went down.

Stock up

Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward had another strong game despite a shoulder issue that limited him to 11 plays a week ago at Jacksonville. He was credited with five tackles, two pass breakups and a quarterback hit.

Stock down

Cornerback Greg Newsome II’s penalty for roughing Giants quarterback Daniel Jones wiped out an interception that could have led to the Browns opening a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes.

Blitzing from the right side, Newsome left his feet and made contact with Jones’ helmet, an easy call for the officials.

Instead of a potential game-swinging turnover, the Giants kept possession, drove the length of the field and scored to tie it.

“We have to be better there,” Stefanski said. “Greg knows that you can’t go up near the quarterback’s head and neck area.”

Injuries

Myles Garrett’s feet escaped further injury after they bothered him in Sunday’s game. He’s “day to day” and “battling,” Stefanski said. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year twice needed to be treated in the sideline medical tent and had to be helped off the field in the fourth quarter.

Garrett said that in compensating for the issues with his feet, he’s created other problems in his legs.

Key numbers

7 — Cleveland’s rushing yardage in the first half on seven carries.

What’s next

A weekend trip to Las Vegas for the first of three straight road games for the Browns, who might not mind the chance to get away after being booed by their home crowd for the second time in three weeks.

3 Stars For Cleveland Browns Versus Seattle Seahawks

In a preseason riddled with poor performances and injuries, the Cleveland Browns can now turn their attention towards the start of the regular season.

Despite losing 37-33 against the Seattle Seahawks on the road in a late night matchup, this was the best preseason performance for the Browns.

Here are three players who deserve recognition as stars of the game.

Huntley saved his best for last in the preseason finale. The former Baltimore Ravens quarterback went 17 of 22 for 146 yards and three touchdowns.

This bodes very well from a Browns perspective for a few reasons. If the organization decides to keep him on the roster, then this is proof that Huntley still has the skills to be a quality backup and provide valuable depth. An even more likely scenario is that Huntley could have just increased his trade value.

If the Browns do decide to proceed with Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, the thought would likely be that Cleveland will hope to get something in return for Huntley instead of just releasing him.

Woods finds himself among a group of wide receivers battling for the final roster spots in the room. He made a strong case for himself on the night with five receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore are the obvious locks as the top three wide receivers. After that, Cedric Tillman is likely safe and despite being out injured for a bit, Kevin Stefanski stated that David Bell was having a strong training camp and preseason.

Assuming that the organization keeps six receivers on the 53-man roster, Jamari Thrash and Woods are likely the two going head to head for the final spot. Although Thrash likely has the advantage as a rookie with several strong performances in a row, perhaps Woods just opened up room for another conversation.

Could you keep seven receivers and go with two tight ends on the 53-man roster?

Diabate shined last year in the preseason as a rookie. Now in his second year, the linebacker continues to impress.

On Saturday night, Diabate tallied three tackles and one sack against the Seahawks.

He should be an asset on special teams in kick coverage this year, but could also be the fifth or sixth linebacker on the roster.

Browns DT Mike Hall Jr. charged with domestic violence

Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. was charged with domestic violence in Avon, Ohio, after allegedly threatening a woman with a gun Monday night, according to a police report.

Hall was arrested and booked Tuesday, a police spokesperson told ESPN. He pleaded not guilty, according to a clerk at Avon Lake Municipal Court. His bond was set at $10,000 and he has a hearing scheduled for Sept. 10.

According to a police report, Hall grabbed a handgun during an argument, pressed it against a woman’s temple and threatened, “I will f—ing end it all. I don’t care.”

The woman told police she is engaged to Hall and shares an 11-month-old child with him. She said the altercation began when she and Hall were discussing the financial needs of her daughter from a different relationship.

According to the report, the woman said that Hall screamed at her to leave the house, grabbed her by the feet and dragged her on her back down the driveway.

Hall left the house before authorities arrived, according to the report.

The woman’s mother corroborated details of her account in a written statement, according to the report, including that on Monday night she witnessed Hall strike her daughter on the head with a baby bottle, choke her by the neck, push her head through a wall and break open a bedroom door to drag her out.

Authorities observed several indicators of a physical altercation during a walk-through of the home, according to the report, and also saw two handguns lying on a mattress.

The police received the report of a domestic dispute at approximately 10:01 p.m. on Monday.

The Browns released the following statement on Tuesday morning: “We are aware of the incident involving Mike Hall Jr. last night. Mike and his representatives have been in touch with the appropriate authorities. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this time.”

“We have been in contact with the club regarding the matter, which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy,” NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said in a statement.

The team did not practice Tuesday and will hold joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday and Thursday before hosting an exhibition game Saturday.

The Browns selected Hall with the No. 54 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Hall, a Streetsboro native, played college football at Ohio State University.

Browns rookie DT Mike Hall Jr. arrested on domestic violence charge after fight with fiancee

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Browns rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. was arrested Tuesday and charged with domestic violence after police said he threatened his fiancee with a gun during a fight.

Hall was booked and arraigned at Avon Lake Municipal Court, said James M. Drozdowski, a public information officer with Avon Police. He posted bond and was released, the officer told The Associated Press.

Hall appeared in court with his attorney, Kevin Spellacy, who did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

The Browns said in a statement they were aware of the incident involving Hall, a second-round pick from Ohio State.

“Mike and his representatives have been in touch with the appropriate authorities,” the team said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at the time.”

The team did not practice Tuesday as players were only getting treatment and working out at Cleveland’s training facility in Berea, Ohio. The Browns are hosting the Minnesota Vikings for joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday before playing an exhibition game on Saturday.

A detailed incident report obtained by the AP said officers responded to a call at 10 p.m. Monday night from a woman who claimed that Hall had pushed her daughter and struck her with a baby bottle.

According to the report, the woman told police she is engaged to Hall and they share an 11-month-old daughter. The woman said their fight escalated after the couple were discussing financial needs for the child. The woman told police Hall is not the biological father.

The woman said Hall, 21, became “increasingly agitated,” threw her belongings outside and dragged her on her back along a porch and driveway. At one point, the woman said Hall put a gun to her temple and said, “I will (expletive) end it all. I don’t care.”

The woman did not seek medical treatment.

Hall locked the woman out of the house and left in a pickup truck, according to the report.

Police said they found evidence including a damaged door frame and a hole in a door the woman said Hall had punched. Officers also seized two handguns — a .40-caliber Glock and a 9mm Smith & Wesson.

Packers win preseason opener over Browns, 23-10

Packers lead Browns 17-3 at halftime

The Packers opened the second quarter with a 51-yard Daniel Whelan punt after flyer Robert Rochell tackled Jaelon Darden after a 3-yard return. Behind No. 3 quarterback Tyler Huntley, the Browns drove down to the Green Bay 25 before safety Evan Williams made back-to-back tackles in the flat.

Cleveland tried to go for it on fourth-and-4, but Huntley’s pass intended for Ahmarean Brown fell incomplete. The Packers took over at the Cleveland 23. Green Bay opened with a 14-yard pass to Malik Heath across the middle off playaction.

Emanuel Wilson paced the Packers on the series, carrying the ball seven times for 36 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown run to extend Green Bay’s lead to 14-3 with 2:48 left in the first half.

The Packers faced fourth-and-3 after an incomplete pass to Melton. Green Bay went for it from its own 45, with Clifford hitting Grant DuBose on a 13-yard out to keep the series going.

Browns jumped offside two plays later, allowing Clifford to connect with DuBose again for a 14-yard completion to the Cleveland 26. Wilson picked up the next first down with a 9-yard run, followed by a 3-yard carry on third-and-1.

Wilson followed his blocks for a 9-yard gain to the Cleveland 5, setting up first-and-goal. He finished the drive with a 5-yard TD run to seal the 13-play, 77-yard scoring drive.

The Packers’ defense forced a three-and-out after Van Ness pressured Huntley into the arms of Colby Wooden, who registered the sack for a 10-yard loss. Green Bay took over at its own 36 with 58 seconds left.

DuBose made a toe-tapping catch for 23 yards on third-and-9 to set up a 46-yard Anders Carlson field goal to extend Green Bay’s lead to 17-3 at halftime.

49ers open to Aiyuk trade; Patriots, Browns, Steelers interested

After an offseason full of back and forth, the San Francisco 49ers are now willing to listen to trade offers for Brandon Aiyuk and have given the star wide receiver permission to negotiate a contract with other teams.

It represents a significant change for the 49ers, who did not have the same willingness to listen to trade offers at the start of training camp.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed Tuesday that Aiyuk has permission to negotiate with other teams but said there’s still a scenario where a deal gets done to keep Aiyuk in San Francisco.

“It’s been at this point for a little bit, so nothing really new to me,” Shanahan said. “You’re always disappointed when you can’t keep hold of all your players or it’s not going exactly right. I don’t like losing anybody, so that’s why I’m hoping it does work out here. But right now, we don’t have that solved yet. I hope it does.”

The New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers have been in contact with the Niners and are interested in trading for Aiyuk, sources told ESPN.

The Steelers’ talks with the 49ers had been stalled as of Monday night, but the teams reengaged in trade discussions Tuesday in an ever-fluid situation that still involves other teams as well, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Patriots have been attempting to acquire Aiyuk for months, and it has been a slow process from their side, according to sources. New England is willing to make Aiyuk one of the top five highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL in terms of average salary per year, according to a source.

Patriots first-year head coach Jerod Mayo wouldn’t confirm that the Patriots have been granted permission to negotiate with Aiyuk, but did acknowledge that he spoke with current New England receiver Kendrick Bourne, because Bourne’s name has surfaced in reports as someone who could be included in a potential trade.

“It was a good conversation. Once again, I feel like the story is so much further along than anything else,” Mayo said Tuesday before the Patriots’ practice. “I just wanted to make sure we cleared the air. I do believe in being transparent with the players and really setting those guys at ease.”

When asked about reports linking the Browns to Aiyuk and whether he is a player who could help Cleveland, coach Kevin Stefanski said, “I don’t really get into reports or speculate … I’m really just focused on today and practice.”

Stefanski also said he would keep private any conversations he’s had with wide receiver Amari Cooper, whose name has been floated in a hypothetical deal for Aiyuk.

The situation could lead to several outcomes, including Aiyuk staying with the 49ers and playing out the fifth-year option on his rookie deal that would pay him $14.124 million, sources said. Other teams are willing to pay Aiyuk more than twice as much, but he has balked so far at multiple offers, according to sources.

The 49ers also have to be comfortable with any trade compensation, and sources told ESPN that the reigning NFC champions are willing to keep Aiyuk.

Throughout the Aiyuk saga, which has involved plenty of pushback from Aiyuk using social media and culminating in an official trade request at the start of camp, the Niners have been adamant about not wanting to hurt their chances of winning the Super Bowl this year.

The idea of trading Aiyuk, who was a second team All-Pro and the team’s best receiver in 2023, would almost certainly do that unless San Francisco gets an impactful player or two in return. A source told ESPN on Tuesday that interested teams have been more willing to talk about including players and picks, which has helped the Niners become more open to a deal in the past couple of weeks.

Aiyuk was at the 49ers’ facility Tuesday but did not participate in practice as he continued his “hold in.” Through the team’s first 11 practices of training camp, Aiyuk has often been spotted watching practice from the sideline but that hasn’t happened the past couple of sessions. He has, however, been attending meetings and participating regularly in those.

“Brandon’s a great player so it’s real hard to be better when you lose a great player,” Shanahan said. “We’ve got to look into anything. We’ve got to understand the situation we’re in, what that looks like and it does take time so hopefully it’ll all work out the best for him and the best for us in the long run.”

The 49ers listened to offers for Aiyuk before and during April’s NFL draft but rebuffed those offers because they wouldn’t get enough in return. Since then, the league’s wide receiver market has exploded with multiple top wideouts — including Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jaylen Waddle and others — signing lucrative long-term extensions.

Once the draft passed, the Niners shut down Aiyuk trade discussions in part because of their Super Bowl aspirations this season. The idea of trading Aiyuk for draft picks in 2025 and beyond would not help attain that goal. Niners defensive end Nick Bosa said Tuesday that trading Aiyuk at all would make it that much more difficult.

“I think it would be huge [to lose him],” Bosa said. “I trust John [Lynch] and Kyle but he’s a very tough player to replace.”

NBC Sports Bay Area reported late Monday night that the 49ers have “negotiated the framework of trades” that would send Aiyuk to the Patriots or Browns.

Aiyuk, 26, reported for the 49ers’ training camp but has not practiced as he seeks a new deal.

The Patriots’ lengthy pursuit of Aiyuk traces back to February, when executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf shared his hope to “weaponize the offense.” The Patriots selected Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft, and one of their goals has been to surround the former North Carolina quarterback with more talent to aid in his development.

New England attempted in March to sign free agent wide receiver Calvin Ridley, who ultimately landed with the Tennessee Titans on a four-year, $92 million deal.
