Denver Broncos’ first ever Latina team reporter proud to represent culture

Denver Broncos’ first ever Latina team reporter proud to represent culture

The number of Latina reporters in the NFL is fairly limited but has been on the rise in recent years.

In Denver, despite the Denver Broncos’ rich history with a diverse fan base, the organization has never had a Latina team reporter. That was until this season when they hired Los Angeles native Elisa Hernandez.

Over the years, the team has actively engaged Latino fans through outreach programs, community events and celebrations of Hispanic heritage.

The organization hosted its Vamos Broncos event during Sunday’s home game, a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium.

As the Broncos’ relationship with Latino fans grows steadily, bringing on a voice like Hernandez contributes to the team’s vibrant culture.

However, you should know Hernandez is more than meets the eye.

“It feels surreal,” Hernandez told CBS Colorado.

Hernandez grew up as one of four children in Los Angeles, at times helping her father clean apartments to make ends meet. “I never saw it as anything bad,” she recalled.

Her parents immigrated from El Salvador to the U.S. during the Salvadoran Civil War, and although she was born in California, she understands their journey wasn’t easy.

Sports, however, were what truly brought her family together. Growing up in the “City of Angels” in the late 1990s, Hernandez followed the Denver Broncos, since Los Angeles didn’t have an NFL team at the time.

“Being able to do what I love for the team that I’ve loved since I was a little kid is pretty special,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez’s path to her dream job as a team reporter for the Broncos wasn’t facile. After graduating from USC, she noticed many of her peers landing on-camera jobs right away. “I didn’t get discouraged,” she said.

Instead, Hernandez focused on learning the industry’s behind-the-scenes aspects. “I think my first job at the NFL was a ticker operator,” she explained, reminiscing about the job. “You know, the scrolling text at the bottom of TV screens that provide scores and weather updates,” she laughed.

Despite taking a different path, Hernandez understood one thing: Getting her foot in the door was key.

“Regardless of what happens, you just have to get your foot in the door and work your way up to create opportunities for yourself,” she added.

And that’s exactly what she did, working for nearly every sports team in Los Angeles and all the networks. Her resume extends from NFL Network to Telemundo Deportes.

Most recently, Hernandez served as an in-arena host for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball.

“I hosted the first Salvadoran night at Dodger Stadium, which was a big accomplishment for me,” Hernandez said. “That representation matters. Seeing little brown girls there, watching me on the Jumbotron, and hearing our slang — it impacts them because they see themselves in me!”

For Hernandez, spreading her knowledge of her culture is essential. However, as a first-generation Salvadoran, she aims to pave the way for others like her — breaking barriers and becoming the Broncos’ first ever Salvadoran team reporter.

“I think being able to have this platform, I do it for them. They are my why. My family is my why. Representing my country, heritage and culture is important.”

Andrew Garfield’s ‘Chicken Shop Date’ Didn’t Disappoint

Andrew Garfield’s ‘Chicken Shop Date’ Didn’t Disappoint

Rom-com lovers, celebrity gossip fiends, people who love to eavesdrop on a really good first date at a bar — today is for you. Andrew Garfield finally went on Chicken Shop Date. After CSD host Amelia Dimoldenberg’s two internet-breaking red-carpet interviews with Garfield, the pair finally sat down for some chicken nuggets and good ol’ fashioned flirting.

Considering the fact that people have been demanding this happen for two years — sparks first flew between these two on the red carpet at a GQ event — it could’ve been a major letdown. Expectations were high, and I’m happy to report that these two have given us one of the best CSD videos ever. The real-life chemistry is palpable, and Garfield, unlike some of Dimoldenberg’s other guests, is genuinely intrigued by both the format and his host.

When Dimoldenberg tells him that she is no stranger to asking people out (both in the chicken shop and the outside world), he affirms her. “I think that’s sexy. I think that’s really hot,” he says. He tells her that she’s funny, and when she tells him the same he says, “You’re funnier, that’s a quality I really appreciate in you.” Are you swooning?

Garfield’s big move comes about halfway through the episode, when he gestures to all the film equipment and asks, “If this wasn’t here, do you think we’d actually go on a date? Do you think this is fucked up, the fact that we could’ve actually gone on a date at some point? Maybe. I actually believe, maybe, we could’ve.” That high-pitched sound you just heard was actually every romance writer alive getting the exact same idea for their next book.

What could possibly be next for these two? Garfield is newly single, so that bodes well. I think ideally I’d like to see them do this every ten years, Before Sunrise style. That way they can’t give us too much of what we want — that wouldn’t be very sexy.

“I Lived, Bitch” Caroline Calloway Memes Proof of Life After Hurricane Milton

“I Lived, Bitch” Caroline Calloway Memes Proof of Life After Hurricane Milton

“My publicist just told me that you thought that this was the world’s deadliest bit,” she said to open our call, referencing a preliminary conversation before we spoke.

So…is it? What’s that tweet pushing preorders all about?

“That is my very, very bleak, dark sense of humor,” she says. “And my attitude towards this situation is, listen, we’ve made the choice to stay, we made that choice days ago. Now we’re just hunkering down, making the best of it, and finding the humor where we can, even if it’s very bleak. And if at all possible, making a little money too. Who knows what sort of funds we’ll need for a cleanup for the condo.”

So as a newly-minted, self-made advice author, doesn’t it feel a little off to be crowing about going against the official, potentially life-saving advice of others, then asking people to listen to your life tips?

“I don’t think it’s my job to tell other people to evacuate,” she says. “I feel pretty confident that I will not be making a post, like listing shelter resources. I just think that is not, a beacon of public safety is not the service that I, Caroline Calloway, was put on this earth to provide to others, nor is today the time to start.”

“I think sometimes think the idea that every person with a platform needs to be a role model is unrealistic and unhealthy. On the other hand, I don’t think there’s any reason that you should go out of your way to be irresponsible. I’m not doing this for a publicity bit. Let’s make that so fucking clear. I was mildly offended when my publicist told me that.”

Followers have responded to a Wednesday tweet declaring that she has “champagne and four generations of Floridian blood in my veins. It’ll be fine” (six minutes after texting a similar line to VF and apparently deciding it was too good not to share publicly) similarly. “You guys she’s scamming no way she’s still there,” one user wrote. Another: “You really want that dramatic last section of your Wikipedia article huh.”

Something that she’ll be thinking through later today, she says, is “to what degree does having a platform mean I need to encourage other people to make good choices.”

Halle Bailey and DDG Break Up: Relationship Timeline

Photo: Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for The Recording A

Earlier this year, following a private pregnancy, Halle Bailey announced via Instagram that she had welcomed a son, Halo, with YouTuber turned rapper DDG. The couple first sparked breakup rumors a few months later, in April, after unfollowing one another on the app, according to Elle, but went on to enjoy an Italian vacation a few months after that in July. Alas, it looks like their relationship has officially come to an end: On October 3, DDG shared a statement on his Instagram Story confirming the breakup.

“After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways,” the statement reads. “Despite the changes in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true. We are still best friends and adore each other.” It goes on to confirm the former couple’s commitment to co-parenting and ask for “understanding and support.”

Since they first ignited dating rumors at an Usher concert in January 2022, the relationship between Halle Bailey and DDG has faced criticism from all sides; in a 2022 cover story for Elle, Bailey addressed the backlash directly, saying,  “People have seen me grow up, so of course they might have something to say about how I feel or what I do with my life. I just choose not to read it. I ignore the naysayers and follow my own heart and intuition.”

I can only hope her intuition will lead her to a powerful breakup album.

Why There’s a Random Guy Named “Bob” in the Thunderbolts* Trailer

One of my favorite line readings of the year is in Richard Linklater’s Hit Man, when Glen Powell’s character of Gary comes clean to Adria Arjona’s character Madison about how he’s been pretending to be someone else. The moment is perfectly deflated by Arjona’s hilariously high-pitched delivery of “Who the fuck is GARY?! It kills every time. I say all of this to say, if you watched the trailer for Marvel’s new movie, Thunderbolts*, then you may have gotten to the point where Lewis Pullman’s character “Bob” is introduced and wondered, to yourself or out loud, “Who the fuck is Bob?!” with a similar tenor and tone.

Dear reader, that’s a good question. Pullman is playing a character named Robert Reynolds, which means he’s most likely playing an MCU version of the Marvel hero known as The Sentry. Originally developed in the late 90s by Paul Jenkins and Rick Veitch before landing a mini-series in 2000 from Jenkins with art by Jae Lee, the character’s history is, even by comic book standards, a bizarrely long and winding road. The original series involves a middle-aged version of Bob remembering that he was once a superhero called Sentry, who has the power of a million suns that came from taking a version of the super soldier serum. Afraid that his archfoe “The Void” is returning, Bob seeks out other Marvel heroes to help him. Over the course of the series, it’s revealed that Sentry and Void are two sides of the same coin, manifestations of Bob’s anxiety and schizophrenia. Basically, Bob is Marvel’s Superman, if Superman were also Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Of course, the Sentry had never appeared in a Marvel comic before the original Jenkins/Lee miniseries, but there’s an explanation as to why he shows up seemingly out of nowhere; we learn that in order to protect the world from his dark side, Bob enlisted Dr. Strange and Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four to erase the world’s memory of him. That first series ends with him doing the same thing again, for the same reason. But comic books being comic books, it was only a matter of time before other writers found a reason to involve Bob in their stories. Writer Brian Michael Bendis ended up using Sentry as a critical part of his Mighty Avengers story, where Tony Stark enlists his help in exchange for trying to find a cure for his mental issues. From there, he becomes a main fixture during Bendis’ Dark Avengers run, where Norman Osborn coaxes out The Void to take over Bob and do his bidding.

Because Bob’s two personalities are constantly jockeying for control, he’s often too dangerous to be left unchecked, which is the element that Thunderbolts* looks to be playing up. When Yelena (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and others encounter Bob in the trailer, he’s wearing what looks to be a medical gown. While we don’t know at this stage who is exactly pulling the strings, the initial implication is that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Val has sent Yelena, Walker, and the other anti-heroes of the MCU to either rescue Bob or provoke him so that he’ll take them out for her. Either way, one of the most complex and complicated heroes in recent comic book memory will take center stage in a major Marvel movie when Thunderbolts* releases next May.

Reading Festival 2024 - Day Two

Who Is Lana Del Rey’s New Boyfriend, Jeremy Dufrene?

Photo: Joseph Okpako/WireImage

It seems that Lana Del Rey does not really have a “type” in the traditional sense. In recent years, she’s dated a cop, she got engaged to a guy who was in a YouTube cover band, then she dated a different musician, and then she got engaged again, this time to a musician and agent. Sure, you might look at that and think, Sounds like she likes musicians, actually. But Del Rey is going to zig when you want her to zag. Her latest rumored beau is a guy who gives alligator tours on an airboat in Louisiana.

Over the weekend, Del Rey was spotted holding hands with Jeremy Dufrene backstage at Leeds Festival in the U.K. The moment was captured by an excited fan who seemingly couldn’t care less about Dufrene.

The Daily Mail reported that the couple was also spotted shopping at Harrods in London and eating together at a local pub. The r/LanaDelRey sub-Reddit supplied photos of the outing and was quick to deliver judgments about the singer’s new man and his appearance (he looks like what you imagine a Louisiana gator professional might look like).

“I love her but she really has the weirdest taste in men,” wrote one commenter. “She’s cosplaying swamp so she has a reason to use it for the album,” wrote another, referring to Del Rey’s upcoming country album, Lasso.

Now, how does Lana Del Rey meet a guy who gives alligator tours? Beside the fact that she seems like the kind of person who would be into that kind of man, the answer is pretty simple. Back in 2019, Del Rey went on an alligator tour given by Dufrene. In a Facebook post from the time, she wrote, “Jeremy lemme be captain at Arthur’s Air Boat Tours” alongside a photo of her driving the boat with Dufrene at her side (the company is actually called Airboat Tours by Arthur, but who cares). So these two actually go way back.

It looks as though the pair reconnected earlier this year, when Del Rey went back on the alligator tour in May ahead of her appearance at Hangout Music Festival in Alabama. She even tagged him in her caption on Instagram, referring to him as “my guy.”

I’m sending all my love to Lana in her new romantic endeavor, but more important, I’m intrigued by this alligator tour. It’s so good that she went back a second time years later? The Daily Mail said that Kate Hudson went on it recently and that Glenn Powell has also gone. The website promises “one of the most unique and individualized swamp rides in Louisiana.” (It also notes that it is “minutes away from plantations.”) What is so special about it? Is it Jeremy’s charm? And who is Arthur? If the LDR redditors could stop bashing Dufrene’s looks and start answering these questions, I’d really appreciate it.
