Eagles vs. Bengals Game Recap | October 27, 2024

The Eagles were back in action on Sunday, picking up a big 37-17 victory over the Bengals to move to 5-2 on the season.

The Bengals fell to 3-5 on the season, still searching for their first win at home on the year.

The Eagles put together 397 yards of total offense and the defense forced an interception and a fumble in the win.

“It was exciting. It’s hard to win in this league. Doesn’t matter if you win by what we won by today, you win by one, win by two, you’re going to be excited. We put everything we have into this every single week,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said. “It really takes truly mentally tough people to be involved in this game where you pour every ounce of what you have into each week, and then you win or you lose, and you do it again.”

When the Cleveland Browns suit up for their game on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens (5-2), it will be their first game of the season without starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. After suffering a non-contact injury on the field last Sunday during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Watson’s was confirmed to have a torn Achilles, an injury that will end his season and, with any luck, have him back on the field in 2025. With Watson out, Jameis Winston will start for the 1-6 Browns. Here’s all the info you need about today’s Browns vs. Ravens game. You can also keep an eye on live game-day updates here.

Week 8 Colts vs. Texans Game Open Thread

Week 8 Colts vs. Texans Game Open Thread

The Indianapolis Colts are on the road to take on the Houston Texans for their week eight game, Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.

The Colts come into week eight having won four of their last five. A lot of Colts fans (and writers/bloggers/podcasters/YouTubers) have been riding that high and I feel like I’m living on an island, all alone, with my firm belief that this Colts team is not as good as it’s record. Don’t get me wrong, I’m really happy this team is above .500 in late October. That is fantastic. But had the Colts not played a rookie in his third game (Caleb Williams), a retread that has since been benched for what’s left of Russell Wilson (Justin Fields), Will Levis and the all-star combo that was Tyler Huntley and Tim Boyle last week against the Dolphins, well I’m not sure this team would have won any of those games. But the fact of the matter is, you can only play who is on your schedule and the Colts went out and won those games.

So I don’t mean to take anything away from the team.

This week I’ve seen people point out that the Texans only won by two points in week one and how last week C.J. Stroud threw for a career low 86 yards. They’re missing a great wide receiver in Nico Collins and their defense is missing multiple star players as well. And that’s all true but this Colts defense is bad. Very, very bad. Zaire Franklin is playing the worst football of his career. He isn’t getting off blocks and I don’t care how many tackles he ended up with last week, how many of them came before the back was 4-6 yards beyond the line of scrimmage? You don’t need to actually go look, it wasn’t many. Even the defense’s best plays from a week ago were from fluky fumbles that were caused after a Miami back had already picked up a big chunk of yards.

Had the Colts played better quarterbacks, frankly, I don’t know that they would have won a single game this year. And yes I just got done lambasting the run defense and you might be wondering how I’m making that connection. That’s fair. But when the Colts do manage to prevent the opposing running back from picking up a first down on either first or second down runs, often that opposing team chooses to throw on third down. Bad quarterbacks don’t often convert on third down. C.J. Stroud, despite his play last week and Collins’ absence, is unfortunately, a very good quarterback.

After watching Anthony Richardson last week, I also feel completely alone in the online Colts world. First let me say, Richardson was bad. There. Got that out of the way.

But it is wild to me the way people are talking about why he was bad.

I feel like I’m the only one who remembers week two against the Green Bay Packers. When he was sailing passes to wide open receivers and then when asked about it, he more or less said that he was working through things too quickly, getting excited and trying to rush the throw which was making the ball come out wildly.

So last week was it the same thing? No! His throws were mostly on target. He had one or two off target throws, but every quarterback will have one or two they’d like back. So what was it last week? Everything he threw came out late. He slowed down, way down, too slow. He worked his reads, found the open man, got his feet right and threw the ball. The problem wasn’t his accuracy it was that from the time he found his receiver to when he actually made the throw it took too much time, allowing the defensive backs to make a jump and break up the passes.

THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS!

Not because the result was bad. Not because the balls were deflected. Not because we had to listen to another week of narrative based “analysis” but because he took a problem he had the last time he played a full game and he fixed it in the next one. He is working through a problem he (and probably his coaches) identified and he’s fixing things week to week. This is what progression looks like. It isn’t always that things just get better. Sometimes you have to suck at something in a different way before you figure out what works and the process is happening right in front of our eyes and it sure feels like everyone is missing it.

Little known online fact about me (I think) I coached gymnastics for almost a decade. I mostly coached bars and floor (I’m a big guy who was good at spotting the kids, I was most useful on those two events) but every now and then I would find myself working with kids on vault or beam. I, after a near decade of coaching, still don’t know that much about beam, I won’t get into it here but just know, I don’t. The one thing I do know is that when a kid is learning a new skill and is consistently falling off of the beam on the same side, you convince them to fall off of the beam on the other side. Every time I told a kid to fail, but just differently, I would get confused looks and every time they successfully fell off the beam on the “other” side, I would then tell them to split the difference and land on the beam the next time they did the skill. And guess what? Normally that worked.

Sometimes you have to fail multiple ways to understand how you can succeed, before you actually succeed.

I don’t know if Anthony Richardson is going to be a good quarterback. I hope he will be. But I am sure that he is progressing and it feels like no one in the football world is noticing.

Either way I expect the Colts to lose this game, mostly due to the defense. Unless Richardson puts it all together this week (unlikely) and the offense is dominant, I expect this to be a rough watch for Colts fans. I hope I’m wrong.

Packers vs. Jaguars predictions, picks, odds

Prediction: In many ways, the Jaguars look more talented on paper than the AFC South-leading Texans, especially considering all the injuries Houston was dealing with during the trip to Green Bay last week. The Packers say they aren’t taking this trip to Jacksonville lightly, but they have to prove it Sunday. This is an important test for a young but maturing team — can you go on the road and take care of business against what appears to be an inferior opponent, especially after an emotional home win last Sunday? Games against the Giants and Panthers late last year were disappointing but also immature performances. The difference in 2024? Jeff Hafley’s aggressive style on defense, and the blossoming confidence of Jordan Love and the offense. I think the Packers show why they are a different level of contender with a commanding performance on the road. Packers 30, Jaguars 20

The Houston Texans (5-2) will battle the Indianapolis Colts (4-3) on Sunday in Week 8 at NRG Stadium for bragging rights in the AFC South. The Colts have been a thorn in the Texans’ side for years, especially when Pro Bowl running Jonathan Taylor starts to pick up steam.

With a win, the Texans would secure a .500 or better record in the AFC South standings. They also would remain No. 2 in the AFC overall standings behind Kansas City and tied with Buffalo.

For the Colts, a win now put them in a tie for first place in the division at 2-1. Anthony Richardson scored a pair of touchdowns last time he entered NRG Stadium and was well on his way to a career afternoon before leaving with a concussion in the first quarter.

Game Recap: Rams defeat Raiders 20-15

Game Recap: Rams defeat Raiders 20-15

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The Rams (2-4) held on to defeat the Raiders 20-15 on Sunday at SoFi Stadium, with safety Jaylen McCollough’s second interception of the game – with 1:28 left in the fourth quarter – clinching the victory.

Los Angeles converted a pair of interceptions off Las Vegas quarterback Gardner Minshew into touchdown drives on each of the ensuing possessions – one late in the first half and another midway through the third quarter – to build a 20-6 lead. Coupled with L.A.’s defense holding Las Vegas’ offense to five field goals – and 0-for-2 in the redzone – and McCollough’s late interception, it was enough to overcome near-costly self-inflicted mistakes in the second half.

Cornerback Cobie Durant also had a big game for L.A.’s defense, recording one interception and one forced fumble that was returned by safety Kam Curl for a touchdown.

Running back Kyren Williams finished with 21 carries for 76 yards and two rushing touchdowns; his pair of rushing scores moved him past Eric Dickerson most touchdowns by a Rams player in their first 17 starts.

Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle) was inactive for this game.

Here is the complete game recap, presented by Corona:

After a scoreless first quarter, the Raiders gained an early 3-0 lead via a 38-yard field goal by kicker Daniel Carlson with 14:04 left in the 2nd quarter.

The Rams reached the Raiders’ 49 on the ensuing possession, only to give the ball back on a failed attempt to convert on 4th and 1 from that spot.

Cornerback Cobie Durant came up with a huge takeaway for Los Angeles late in the first half, after outside linebacker Jared Verse’s pressure forced an errant throw by Las Vegas quarterback Gardner Minshew, who had replaced Aidan O’Connell after O’Connell sustained a thumb injury and was questionable to return. The Rams converted the turnover into points with a 13-yard touchdown run by Kyren Williams to take a 7-3 lead with 3 minutes to go in the first half.

What happened in the Texans vs Packers game on October 20, 2024?

What happened in the Texans vs Packers game on October 20, 2024?

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TEXANS VS PACKERS GAME

The Texans got on the board first after Neville Hewitt intercepted Jordan Love and returned the ball to the Green Bay 11-yard line. Ka’imi Fairbairn punched through a field goal to give Houston a lead they held onto through the end of the opening quarter

Love recovered quickly after that initial pick. Following a five-play Green Bay drive that ended in a punt, the Texans moved 36 yards on eight plays and punted the ball back. Tucker Kraft got on the end of a 14-yard pass from Love to finish a 14-play drive that put the Packers up 7-3.

Stroud and the Texans were again halted on their next drive, but Tommy Townsend’s punt hit a Green Bay player and was recovered at the Packers’ 11-yard line by Houston. Two plays later, Joe Mixon rumbled into the endzone to give the visitors a 10-7 lead.

It wouldn’t last long, though. Three minutes later Dontayvion Wicks latched onto a 30-yard pass from Love to put the Packers up 14-10.

In 10 plays, Stroud drove the Texans 23 yards and into field goal range for Fairbairn, who nailed a 52-yarder to make the score 14-13 in favor of the Packers.

Love once again sought to fit the ball into a tight window on the next drive, but with Derek Stingley Jr. in tight coverage, he overthrew his receiver and Calen Bullock flew in to nab his third pick of the year.

This time Stroud and Mixon made sure the Texans finished in the endzone, with the running back powering four yards to put another six points on the board. Houston went for two but failed to convert, and the teams entered halftime with the visitors on top 19-14.

The Texans continued to have trouble moving the ball in the second half, and after a five-play drive moved backwards, Jordan Love and the Packers took 5:22 off the clock with a 10-play drive that ended with a pass to the right to Josh Jacobs, who found his way into the endzone.

With the Packers leading 21-19, both offenses struggled to create. Over the next six drives, the two teams combined to gain 49 yards total.

Then Stroud engineered a 41-yard drive that Fairbairn finished off with a 35-yard field goal, but 1:44 remained on the clock for Jordan Love.

Green Bay moved 39 yards and set Brandon McManus up for a 45-yard field goal to win the game win no time remaining.

The Texans return to Houston to face the Colts next Sunday before heading north again for a Thursday Night showdown with the New York Jets on Halloween.

Barcelona 5-1 Sevilla (Oct 20, 2024) Game Analysis

Barcelona 5-1 Sevilla (Oct 20, 2024) Game Analysis

Robert Lewandowski and substitute Pablo Torre each scored twice to help leaders Barcelona thrash visitors Sevilla 5-1 in LaLiga on Sunday in a confidence boost for Hansi Flick’s side ahead of key clashes against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Barca were dominant throughout the encounter at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium and effectively killed off the game with three goals in 15 first-half minutes starting with a Lewandowski penalty after Raphinha was fouled from behind in the 24th minute.

Pedri fired a bullet strike from the edge of the box into the top corner to double their lead four minutes later and Lewandowski slotted home a first-time effort from close range to net the third for the Catalan side in the 39th minute.

It was another superb performance from Barca’s attacking trio of Lamine Yamal, Lewandowski and captain Raphinha who have scored 21 of Barca’s 33 LaLiga goals this season.

Polish striker Lewandowski has reached 12 league goals in 10 games, double the amount of Kylian Mbappe and Ayoze Perez who are the joint second highest scorers in LaLiga.

In the second half, Torre climbed off the bench to score the fourth with a shot from inside the box in the 82nd minute and, right after Stanis Idumbo netted a consolation for Sevilla in the 87th, he wrapped up the scoring with a free kick into the far corner.

Barcelona are on top of the LaLiga standings on 27 points, three ahead Real Madrid in second and seven clear of Atletico Madrid in third. Sevilla are 13th on 12 points.

“Winning like this is very important for the games to come,” Pedri told Movistar Plus.

“Today we had to leave with more than just the three points, we needed that good feeling we got. The coach told us that there was going to be spaces at the edge of the box and we took advantage of that.”

Following a disappointing first LaLiga defeat at Osasuna, Barca have earned back-to-back league wins.

Their victory over Sevilla was their ninth in 10 LaLiga games this season, as they prepare for a difficult week when they will host Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday before travelling to face rivals Real Madrid in LaLiga on Saturday.

They were missing several key players on Sunday who were sidelined by injuries, including Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Ferran Torres and Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Yet they had a big reason to celebrate as talisman midfielder Gavi came off the bench in the second half to play his first minutes after 348 days out with a torn knee ligament.

Eagles vs. Giants Game Recap | October 20, 2024

Eagles vs. Giants Game Recap | October 20, 2024

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Eagles were back in action at MetLife Stadium as they took on the Giants in their first NFC East divisional game of the season.

The Eagles dominated their division rival, taking home a 28-3 victory to improve to 4-2 on the season.

“This is just about staying consistent every week, man. I’m just happy with what we already know about this team. We’re going to fight. It just seems like everything is coming together, everybody just believing in one another, and I’m happy that it’s showing up,” Brandon Graham said in the locker room following the game.

Including playoffs, the Eagles are 27-7 (.794) in their previous 34 games against the Giants, including a 14-3 (.824) mark in the last 17 contests. Philadelphia, which is 10-5 (.667) vs. New York at MetLife Stadium, has captured six of the last seven contests dating back to 2021.

After defeating the Browns 20-16 last week to move to 3-2 on the season, the Eagles were without tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring) and left tackle Jordan Mailata, who was placed on injured reserve on Friday.

In the biggest storyline of the week, running back Saquon Barkley made his return to MetLife for the first time as an Eagle. Barkley made his return known, rushing for 176 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.

Barkley’s 176 yards were second-most rush yds by a player vs a former team in NFL history (CIN Cedric Benson had 189 rush yds vs. CHI in Week 7, 2009) and the second-most in Barkley’s career (189 in Week 16, 2019 at Washington). Barkley’s 658 rush yds are most through the first 6 games of a season in Eagles’ history.

“Howie (Roseman) took a chance on me, the whole organization took a chance on me and I’m thankful for it, stuff like that means a lot to me,” Barkley said. “There’s no hate in my heart with the Giants organization. They drafted me, brought me in, helped a kid live his dream and same thing with the Eagles. I hit free agency not knowing how things were going to shake up and was able to find a home and a place I love and I’m excited to be here. It’s not about proving anybody right or anybody wrong, it’s about going out there and being myself and when I go out there and be myself, a lot of things fall in line.”

2024 Week 7 Game Report

2024 Week 7 Game Report

Thomas, the No. 23 overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, caught five passes for 89 yards and one touchdown. He caught a two-point conversion following Washington’s punt return to give the Jaguars a 22-10 halftime lead.

“There has been a lot of emphasis on sticking together and playing for one another,” Thomas said. “We didn’t have the start we maybe wanted, but we kept playing and stuck together.”

The Jaguars scored 25 consecutive points after trailing 10-0 early in the second quarter.

“Nobody was like, ‘Here we go again’ or had negative thoughts,” Pederson said. “It was just one play at a time to work ourself back in it. We showed the complimentary aspect of the game today in all three phases. That’s the spark that hopefully can get this thing going.”

Bigsby rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries, and the Jaguars outrushed New England 171-38. The Jaguars had a 364-295 total yardage advantage for the game.

“We ran the ball great today,” Lawrence said. “That always helps.”

Bigsby’s four-yard run with 1:41 remaining gave the Jaguars their final margin.

Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye completed 26 of 37 passes for 276 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

The Jaguars registered no takeaways and two sacks Sunday, giving them two defensive takeaways for the season with 15 sacks. Linebacker Devin Lloyd registered a first-quarter sack and defensive end Travon Walker sacked Maye just before the two-minute warning to force fourth-and-26 from the Patriots 10.

Maye threw incomplete from there to clinch the Jaguars’ victory.

Maye threw incomplete from there to clinch the Jaguars’ victory, a victory that came a week after a one-sided loss to the Chicago Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

“We just needed to win a game,” Pederson said. “We love coming over here, but it didn’t matter where. I’m proud of the guys, and proud of the coaches for the way we worked over here.

“It was a good way to finish this little run.”
