Giants quarterback Daniel Jones offered a rare angry outburst after a failed fourth-quarter two-point conversion in which none of the blockers blocked, simply watching Jones throw the ball.
It felt emblematic of the night.
The offense would do something right and then take two steps backward due to miscues and plenty of sloppy, penalty-filled football. Following that play, Jones was visibly upset on the sidelines, flailing his arms at one point in conference with coach Brian Daboll.
Jones was sacked four times, with the offensive line struggling to protect him from TJ Watt and Alex Highsmith. Late in the fourth quarter, the defense forced a fumble with game-tying potential, but right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor couldn’t hold off Watt, who forced a fumble of his own.
Jones went 24-for-38 for 264 yards and an interception.
A number of states will recognize Monday as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, however that won’t be the case in Illinois, in Chicago or on a federal level.
The second Monday in October is still Columbus Day in the aforementioned areas.
Illinois currently recognizes Indigenous Peoples’ Day as the last Monday in September after passing legislation designating the day in 2017. In 2020, an Illinois lawmaker renewed her push to change the Columbus Day state holiday to Indigenous Peoples’ Day.
According to the City of Chicago, Columbus Day is an observed holiday, and legislation to change the name of the holiday to Indigenous People’s Day has stalled.
In Chicago, the 2024 Columbus Day Parade, hosted by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans, steps off at 11:45 a.m. at the corner of State Street and Wacker Drive.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s closed on Monday:
Banks
A number of banks credit unions will likely be closed as Columbus Day is considered a holiday by the Federal Reserve. If they choose, banks can be open on a Federal Reserve holiday.
While most major banks will be closed, you’ll still be able to take advantage of mobile and online services. The stock market, on the other hand, will be open for the day. Bond markets will stay closed, however.
US Postal Service
The U.S. Postal Service will be closed on Monday in observance of the holiday. Mail won’t be delivered either, as Columbus Day is one of 11 holidays observed by the USPS.
Government buildings
State government facilities in Illinois will remain closed for the day, as will federal government buildings across the country.
Libraries are expected to remain open.
DMV
Driver services facilities operated by the Illinois Secretary of State’s office will be closed in observance of the holiday, according to the office’s website.
Schools
While some Illinois school districts may be in session, others will not. Chicago Public Schools does not observe Columbus Day, it does recognize Indigenous People’s Day.
What about stores?
Starbucks, Target, Costco and more
Most retailers, grocery stores and restaurants will be open and operating on regularly-scheduled hours. But just to make sure, it’s not a bad idea to call ahead or check the hours online before venturing out.
While Costco is closed on seven holidays throughout the year, it will be open on Columbus Day, its website said.
Tennessee Titans starting quarterback Will Levis did not come out for his team’s third drive Monday at Miami after he appeared to injure his throwing shoulder.
Levis appeared to be hurt after he dove for yardage on a scramble during Tennessee’s second drive. Levis was seen on the “Monday Night Football” broadcast grimacing as he threw on Tennessee’s sideline midway through the opening quarter, and when the Titans took over with 4:14 to play, his backup, Mason Rudolph, replaced him.
Follow along for live coverage
Levis had thrown an interception earlier in the game while completing three of his four passes.
Rudolph’s entrance turned the matchup into one led by backup quarterbacks. Tyler Huntley earned his 10th career start in place of Tua Tagovailoa, who has been sidelined for a head injury. Huntley committed a turnover when his backward pass was dropped, leading to a fumble recovered by the Titans.
Titans coach Brian Callahan didn’t commit to a starter at quarterback for the second half.
Callahan said “we’ll see” when he was asked who would start the second half. He added that it would depend on whether Levis was physically ready to go.
At the start of the third quarter, Levis stood on the sidelines with his helmet on, but Callahan still opted for Rudolph, who led the team to a 31-12 victory.
The Miami Dolphins (1-2) will host the Tennessee Titans (0-3) as part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader. Both teams are reeling and need a win to get their season back on track. Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa was placed on IR with a concussion and the Dolphins have lost two in a row, including a 24-3 blowout loss to the Seahawks last week. On the other sideline, the Titans have lost three straight games to begin the season. In Week 3, the Green Bay Packers beat Tennessee 31-14. Miami will be without running back Raheem Mostert, who is inactive with a chest injury.
White, a Fantasy and gambling editor for CBS Sports, consistently crushes against-the-spread picks and has gone 643-543-34 on his ATS picks from 2017-23, which returned more than $4,600 to $100 players. He also went 101-84-4 (+1366) on all NFL spread picks last season. White also has a strong read on the Titans. In fact, he is an outstanding 27-17 (+819) on his last 44 picks involving Tennessee. Anyone who has followed him is way up.
Now, White has locked in on Titans vs. Dolphins and just revealed his coveted NFL picks and predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see his picks. Here are several NFL odds and NFL betting lines on the spread, money line and over/under for Dolphins vs. Titans:
Titans vs. Dolphins spread: Miami -2.5
Titans vs. Dolphins over/under: 37.5 points
Titans vs. Dolphins money line: Miami -149, Tennessee +126
MIA: Dolphins have hit the 1H Game Total Over in 13 of their last 20 games
TEN: Titans have hit the 4Q Game Total Under in 11 of their last 17 games
The Dolphins have blazing speed all over the field. Receiver Tyreek Hill is one of the most explosive difference-makers in the NFL. The 30-year-old has recorded 1,700-plus yards in back-to-back seasons with the Dolphins. This season, Hill has 13 receptions for 194 yards and one score.
Running back De’Von Achane has taken a step forward as a contributor offensively. Achane has plenty of speed with the ability to take any touch the distance. The Texas A&M product has 150 rushing yards, 17 receptions, 173 receiving yards and two total scores. In Week 2 against the Bills, Achane had 96 rushing yards and 69 receiving yards. See who to back at SportsLine.
Why the Titans can cover
Despite what the record shows, the Titans have a strong group of weapons on the offensive side. They brought in running back Tony Pollard this offseason and he has the speed and wiggle to break free. In his career, the 27-year-old has 3,779 rushing yards, 1,385 receiving yards, and 29 touchdowns. This season, he has compiled 158 rushing yards, 67 receiving yards and a score.
The Titans also signed receiver Calvin Ridley to a lucrative deal. Ridley can win on all three levels on the field and has secure hands as a weapon. He’s leading the team in receiving yards (136) with eight grabs and a touchdown. Ridley has finished with 50-plus yards in two of the last three games. In Week 2, the Alabama product had four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown. See who to back at SportsLine.
How to make Titans vs. Dolphins picks
White has analyzed Titans vs. Dolphins from every possible angle. He’s leaning Under the total and has also discovered a critical X-factor that has him jumping all over one side of the spread. Find out what it is, and which team to back, at SportsLine.
The Bills safety, making his third straight start of the season, was in the right place at the right time when Lawrence badly missed Brian Thomas Jr. on a first-and-10 crossing route. Hamlin ran the ball back 19 yards to the Jacksonville 41-yard line, and then ran toward the jubilant crowd with his teammates in tow.
“It’s special, man,” Hamlin told ESPN of his teammates’ reaction. “They were a big part of me being able to make this type of comeback. They pushed me. They gave me love, they gave me grace, they gave me everything I needed on the journey, and they was even happier than I was to get my first interception. That just shows the community and the bond that we have here in Buffalo. It’s truly a special place, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Hamlin’s pick was directly followed by a five-play, 41-yard drive that resulted in a Khalil Shakir receiving TD and a 27-3 Bills lead. Buffalo entered halftime leading Jacksonville, 34-3.
It was a moment of great celebration for Hamlin and Bills Mafia. Six-hundred-and-thirty days ago, Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest during a Week 17 Monday Night Football game in Cincinnati and had to be revived on the field before being transported to a local hospital. The safety’s return to football was no sure thing, but little by little, Hamlin overcame obstacles to make it back to the Bills’ roster. This summer, the safety took another step, securing his place in the starting lineup to replace the departed Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde.
On Monday night, he made his impact felt in a big way during a big win.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. – This was rough, rollicking and one-sided.
Really rough and really one-sided.
The Jaguars were outplayed in a big, big way early and never recovered in their 2024 prime time debut, with the Buffalo Bills scoring touchdowns on all five first-half possessions in a 47-10 victory in front of a raucous crowd at Highmark Stadium on Monday Night Football.
“We’re frustrated – and a little bit stunned, to be honest,” quarterback Trevor Lawrence said, adding, “Disappointed would be an understatement.”
Head Coach Doug Pederson called the loss “real shocking” and “very disappointing.”
“The reality of it is this is who we are,” Pederson said. “We’re not a very good football team. We have to get it fixed, we have to come up with some answers and we have to do it in a hurry.”
Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw four touchdown passes – all in the first half – and Buffalo scored on its first six possessions with the Jaguars never within double digits after the first quarter.
The Jaguars have lost eight of nine games dating to last season.
“The main thing is winning the football game,” wide receiver Christian Kirk said, “and we are just not winning the football games – nor are we putting ourselves in a position to win the football game.
“The most important thing right now is just winning a football game.”
The Bills led 13-0 after the first quarter and 34-3 at halftime. They out-gained the Jaguars 140-19 in the first quarter and 288-70 in the first half.
Lawrence completed 21 of 38 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown with one interception. Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s second-quarter interception marked Lawrence’s first turnover of the season and led to a Bills touchdown that gave them 24-point lead late in the first half.
“Players play, coaches coach – and when we step on the field, we have to make plays,” Lawrence said. “We have to take all the accountability, all the criticism, all the scrutiny. That’s our job, to go make the plays. We’re not doing that right now.”
Allen completed 23 of 30 passes for 263 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. Buffalo fans chanted “MVP, MVP, MVP” after multiple Bills second-quarter touchdowns.
The Bills, the four-time defending AFC East Champions, moved to 3-0. The Jaguars, after finishing 9-8 each of the past two seasons, are 0-3 with a road game against the AFC South-leading Houston Texans (2-1) next Sunday.
The Jaguars did not register a sack or a takeaway Monday. They have not forced a turnover this season.
“It’s a week-to-week deal,” Pederson said. “We’re three weeks in and we’re not very good right now. No one’s going to feel sorry for us. This is who we are right now and it’s not very good. We have to be honest with ourselves and I have to be honest with myself. We have to just keep plugging away.”
The Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills game will be played tonight, the first game of a Monday night NFL doubleheader. The Bills are undefeated coming into Week 3, while Trevor Lawrence’s Jaguars have yet to score a win in the 2024-5 NFL regular season.

PHILADELPHIA — Kirk Cousins exorcised his “Monday Night Football” demons and got the Atlanta Falcons their crucial first win of the season in one drive.
Down six and with 1:39 remaining, Cousins took the Falcons 70 yards and found wide receiver Drake London for a 7-yard, go-ahead touchdown with 34 seconds left. Atlanta escaped Lincoln Financial Field with a 22-21 victory in Week 2. Cousins moved to 4-10 on Monday nights and has won four of his past five MNF games.
Cousins was 20-of-29 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Falcons running back Bijan Robinson had 97 yards on 14 carries and 122 total yards from scrimmage. The Eagles had gone ahead with a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jalen Hurts with 6:47 left.
Here are the most important things to know from Monday night for both teams:
For most of eight quarters, the Falcons looked like they really needed to figure things out on offense.
For the second straight week, the team sputtered on that side of the ball, which was supposed to be a major strength with the addition of quarterback Kirk Cousins. But Cousins had yet to return to form after losing most of his 2023 season to a torn right Achilles. And, despite a potent rushing attack, Atlanta was not able to convert on third down or in the red zone.
Until the closing moments of the game. Cousins took the team 70 yards and connected with wide receiver Drake London for the go-ahead touchdown with just 34 seconds left. It did not erase the uneven play of Atlanta’s offense over the first two games. But it was enough to put a notch in the win column, at the very least.
The Falcons really needed a victory against the Eagles. Over the next few weeks, things could get dicey, especially with the way the team had been playing. Atlanta hosts the dynastic Kansas City Chiefs next week in prime time. After that? The Falcons welcome the archrival New Orleans Saints and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both teams, Atlanta’s NFC South foes, are currently undefeated.
Cousins and the Falcons need to hope that last-minute drive will now be the rule, and not the exception. It’s the NFL, and things get late early around here.
Promising trend: Bijan Robinson was a focal point of the team’s offense, which was a criticism of the Falcons’ playcalling in 2023. The second-year running back became the first Falcons running back to have 100 or more yards from scrimmage in each of the team’s first two games of a season since Michael Turner in 2011.
Eye-popping stat: Cousins has 51 pass touchdowns against the blitz over the past five seasons, which is tied for the most in the NFL during that period with Josh Allen. Patrick Mahomes is third with 47. That’s a glimpse at what the Falcons could have if Cousins returns to pre-injury form.
Biggest hole in the game plan: The Falcons’ secondary provided good enough coverage, and the pass rush had its moments, but Hurts was able to improvise and create big plays with his feet. Atlanta had no answer for him, and it resulted in Hurts converting two big fourth downs, three crucial third downs and scoring a touchdown with his legs. — Marc Raimondi
Next game: vs. Kansas City Chiefs (8:20 p.m. ET, Sunday, Sept. 22)
Life without receiver A.J. Brown can be a slog. The Eagles were reminded of that during Monday night’s slugfest against the Falcons as Brown sat out with a hamstring injury that is expected to sideline him for a couple of games.
Still, it seemed they had done enough to muscle past the Falcons — and then the wheels came off. Atlanta mounted a lightning-quick six-play, 70-yard drive in 1:05 to stun the capacity Lincoln Financial Field crowd and drop the Eagles to 1-1.
The road gets tougher from here. They play at the red-hot New Orleans Saints and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before a Week 5 bye.
Adversity has hit this team early. Following a 1-6 collapse down the stretch last season, all eyes will be on whether the Eagles are able to pick up the pieces after a gut punch of a loss.
Describe the game in two words: Brutal loss. The win was in the Eagles’ hands before Atlanta ripped it away with a six-play, 70-yard drive in the closing moments. A last-ditch effort by the Eagles’ offense ended in a Hurts interception.
Pivotal play: Nursing a three-point lead with under two minutes remaining, the Eagles face a third-and-3 deep in Atlanta territory. Hurts had Saquon Barkley open in the flat, but Barkley dropped it, forcing Philadelphia to settle for a field goal. Moments later, the Falcons mounted their game-winning drive.
Troubling trend: The Eagles’ edge rushers struggled to put heat on the quarterback for a second straight week. Much of the focus will be on Bryce Huff, the former Jet who signed a three-year, $51 million deal in free agency to help offset the eventual departure of Haason Reddick. He has zero pressures through two games.
Eye-popping stat: Kirk Cousins was pressured on just 2 of 14 dropbacks (14%) in the first half, the lowest rate he has faced in any half since Week 1 of 2023. — Tim McManus
Next game: at New Orleans Saints (1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, Sept. 22)
Excessive heat warning kicking in early Monday afternoon

After already winning three gold medals at the Paris Olympics, superstar Simone Biles will have her last two chances at gold in the Summer Games come Monday as gymnastics wrap up.
Most recently, the 27-year-old gymnast won gold in the women’s vault final on Saturday, marking her 7th gold medal and Olympic medal overall. Biles also picked up gold in the all-around and team events.
The gymnast has billed her tenure in Paris as a “redemption tour” — three years after she withdrew from the Tokyo Games due to the “twisties,” changing the course of her career forever.
What’s next for Simone Biles after the Paris Games? Read her response here.
Biles will aim to add more hardware when she competes in the balance beam and floor exercise, though she’ll face fierce competition — including from one of her own teammates.
Here’s Biles remaining competition schedule and when to watch:
Balance beam final: Aug. 5
Biles and fellow U.S. gymnast Suni Lee will find themselves in the same competition in the balance beam final. The two have been trading off highest scoring beam routines throughout the 2024 season- and this competition is bound to be a nail-biter. Biles took home the bronze medal on the balance beam in both 2016 and 2020. Lee, on the other hand, has not yet medaled in an Olympic balance beam final.
The balance beam final begins at 5:36 a.m. CT on Aug. 5. Streaming begins on E! at 4:45 a.m. CT and at 8:30 a.m. on NBC 5.
Floor exercise final: Aug. 5
The floor exercise final will be the last event of the women’s gymnastics competition this Olympics. Biles and Team USA’s Jordan Chiles have both qualified.
Biles won the floor exercise final at the 2016 Games, but had to pull out of the 2020 Games final, leaving room for USA’s Jade Carey to take home gold. Carey missed the final in this year’s Olympics after an uncharacteristic fall in qualifiers. It was later revealed she had been battling an illness during the Games.
Team USA’s Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, and Jade Carey delivered spectacular performances to take gold at the women’s gymnastics all-around final Tuesday.
After Carey’s fall, Chiles scored high enough to clinch the second spot in the final. Chiles’ Beyonce-themed floor routine has been a consistent crowd pleaser throughout the Games so far.
Watch the floor exercise final at 7:20 a.m. CT on Aug. 5. Streaming begins on E! at 4:45 a.m. CT and at 8:30 a.m. on NBC 5.
