Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler arrested for DUI in Williamson County

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) – Jay Cutler, a former quarterback in the National Football League, was arrested this week in Williamson County.

Officers with the Franklin Police Department responded to the 200 block of Bridge Street for reports of a crash involving a white Dodge Ram and a blue GMC. The driver of the GMC told officers that Cutler had rear-ended him with his Ram, then attempted to flee the scene, and offered him $2,000 to not call the police, according to the arrest affidavit.

During their conversation with Cutler, the officers reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from him, as well as slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, Franklin PD reported. Cutler also refused a field sobriety test, prompting officers to take him to Williamson Medical Center for a blood draw.

During a search of his vehicle, officers found two firearms: a rifle and a loaded Glock pistol in the center console, according to Franklin PD.

Cutler, 41, was taken into custody on Thursday just before 7 p.m. He was released around 10 p.m., according to jail records. He denied ever hitting the GMC with his truck, according to the affidavit. The officers reported observing a dent to the rear of the GMC but Cutler’s Ram has a winch attached to the front, so no damage was visible.

He faces four charges, including driving under the influence, possessing a gun while intoxicated, failure to exercise due care, and implied consent.

The driver of the GMC said he suffered an injury to his back but refused treatment at the scene, according to the affidavit. He drove himself to the hospital for treatment.

Cutler played for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins over his 12 years in the NFL. He also played his college ball at Vanderbilt University. The Broncos took him in the 1st round of the 2006 NFL Draft (11th overall).

Football fans: It’s time to kick back and relax with some Thursday Night Football as the Denver Broncos (3-3) face the New Orleans Saints (2-4) tonight at the Caesars Superdome.

The Los Angeles Chargers put an end to the Broncos’ 3-game win streak on Sunday, Oct. 13, with their 23-16 victory. Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton called it a “disappointing loss.”

“They ran the ball better than we did. We mustered up some offense late in the game. All of this starts with me. We have to be better offensively. We have to protect the ball better. That is what I saw. We will go from there. We have a short week,” said Payton, adding that the team will have to learn from the game and move forward.

The Denver Broncos vs. the New Orleans Saints NFL Week 7 game will be played on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. ET (5:15 p.m. PT). The game will air on Amazon Prime Video.

The Broncos are favored (2.5-point) to defeat the Saints, CBS Sports reports, citing SportsLine. Mike Williams may be on his way out of Jets land. 

The veteran wide receiver is expected to be shopped around over the coming weeks after the addition of Davante Adams on Tuesday, according to NBC Sports’ Mike Florio. 

Williams is suddenly the odd man out in a crowded Jets wide receivers room.

Garrett Wilson and Adams are expected to form an excellent 1-2 punch at the position while Allen Lazard, another long-time favorite of Aaron Rodgers, likely will slot in as the No. 3 pass-catcher. 

Williams, who is coming off a torn ACL, may have fallen out of favor with Rodgers after he allegedly ran the wrong route on the quarterback’s game-ending interception during Monday’s 23-20 loss to the Bills. 

With just over two minutes remaining, Williams slipped as a long pass from Rodgers came his way, allowing Taron Johnson to jump in front of him for the interception. 

After the game, Rodgers threw the blame on Williams’ shoulders for the disastrous play.

“There’s two verticals, Allen (Lazard)’s down the seam, and Mike’s down the red line,” Rodgers said. “So, I’m throwing a no look to the red line. When I peak my eyes back there Mike’s running an ‘in-breaker’ … it’s gotta be down the red line.”

Since coming over from the Chargers, whom he spent the first seven seasons of his career with, Williams hasn’t clicked with Rodgers, catching just 10 passes for 145 yards. 

On Monday, Williams didn’t have a single catch on three targets. 

Williams had caught at least 43 passes in each of his past five full seasons with the Chargers. 

The Jets signed Williams to a one-year deal worth up to $15 million over the offseason.

Detroit Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field during the third quarter of the Lions’ matchup with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Hutchinson left the field after he sacked Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on a second-down play. Hutchinson was tackling Prescott when his left leg appeared to collide with a teammate.

The Fox broadcast did not show a replay of the injury, which Fox deemed to be too gruesome. Hutchinson was on the field for several minutes before he could be carted off. Players from both teams gathered around him as he was taken to the locker room.

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Hutchinson underwent immediate surgery at a Dallas-area hospital for a fractured tibia.

Hutchinson entered the game leading the NFL in sacks with 6½.

The Lions selected Hutchinson second overall in the 2022 NFL draft. He had 21 sacks in his first two seasons with Detroit.
