Week 8 NFL picks for Browns vs. Ravens

Before tuning into Sunday’s Ravens vs. Browns game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up well over $7,000 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception. The model enters Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season on an incredible 11-3 hot streak on top-rated NFL picks this year. Longer term, it is on a 192-132 roll on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season and a 46-24 roll on top-rated NFL picks since Week 7 of 2022.

For Ravens vs. Browns, the model is backing Baltimore to cover the spread. Jackson is a dual-threat playmaker under center who makes things tough on defenses. This season, he’s fifth in the NFL in passing yards (1,810) and tied for second in passing touchdowns (15). Last week, Jackson went 17-of-22 for 281 yards and five passing touchdowns. Cleveland is 13th in the NFL in total defense (317.9), giving up 23.1 points per game on average.

Running back Derrick Henry is another explosive playmaker on Baltimore’s offense. Henry leads the NFL in carries (134), rushing yards (873), and rushing touchdowns (8). He’s notched 130-plus yards four times in 2024, a big reason why the model has the Ravens covering in over 50% of simulations. You may be able to stream the game here.

The Battle of Ohio is reimagined between two struggling divisional rivals as the Cleveland Browns (1-5) host the Cincinnati Bengals (2-4) in an NFL Week 7 matchup on CBS and Paramount+. Deshaun Watson and the Browns have been on the wrong side of the scoreboard in four straight games heading into Sunday’s tilt, most recently falling 20-16 to the Philadelphia Eagles. Joe Burrow and the Bengals haven’t fared much better this season, although they could have some momentum after getting a 17-7 win against the New York Giants in Week 6. You may be able to stream Sunday’s game live on Paramount+, which you can now try free for the first seven days when you sign up here.

Kickoff from Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland is set for 1 p.m. ET. The Bengals are 5.5-point favorites in the latest Bengals vs. Browns odds via SportsLine consensus, and the over/under for total points scored is 41.5. Cincinnati is a -250 money line favorite (risk $250 to win $100), while Cleveland is a +203 underdog (risk $100 to win $203). Week 7 NFL picks for Browns vs. Bengals

Before tuning into Sunday’s Browns vs. Bengals game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up well over $7,000 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception. For Browns vs. Bengals, the model is backing Cleveland to cover the spread at home. The Browns have dominated this rivalry in recent years, winning seven of the last 10 meetings against the Bengals. Cleveland enters Sunday’s showdown having won six straight at home against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati’s defense has been leaky this season, giving up 25.3 points per game on average, which ranks 25th in the NFL. Browns running back Nick Chubb (knee) is expected to make his season debut, which could be the spark Cleveland’s offense has been missing. The Browns will likely lean on their defense to keep them in Sunday’s game, and the model has them covering the spread in almost 60% of simulations. You may be able to stream the game here.

Sam Darnold MRI Reveals Bruise in Knee, No Structural Damage

EAGAN, Minn. — Sam Darnold will be working through some soreness this week, but an MRI Monday revealed no structural damage in his knee.

Vikings Head Coach Kevin O’Connell shared the positive results during his media session Monday, less than 24 hours after Darnold quarterbacked Minnesota to a 34-7 win over Houston and a 3-0 start to the 2024 season.

O’Connell said Darnold underwent an “extensive evaluation,” and the coach hopes the QB will have a normal week of preparation as the team prepares to visit Green Bay in Week 4.

Darnold left Sunday’s game against Houston late in the third quarter after he was hit low from behind by former Vikings edge defender Danielle Hunter, who was blocked into the quarterback on the play.

NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre reveals Parkinson’s diagnosis at House hearing

NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre told lawmakers he was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease as he testified Tuesday before the House Ways and Means Committee investigating Mississippi’s misuse of welfare funds — a scandal that has tainted the Green Bay Packers legend after his retirement.

At a hearing titled, “Reforming Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): States’ Misuse of Welfare Funds Leaves Poor Families Behind,” the former quarterback said state officials “failed to protect federal TANF funds from fraud and abuse” and then attempted to blame him.

“When this started, I didn’t know what TANF was. Now I know TANF is one of the country’s most important welfare programs to help people in need,” Favre testified.

Former NFL football player Brett Favre testifies before a House Committee on Ways and Means in Washington, Sept. 24, 2024.

House TV

Favre, wearing a sportscoat, untucked dress shirt and blue jeans, told the committee he was recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

“I also lost an investment in a company that I believe was developing a breakthrough concussion drug I thought would help others, and I’m sure you’ll understand why it’s too late for me, because I recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s,” Favre revealed.

Favre, 54, said he is under a gag order that prevents him from discussing the details of the case. He has not been criminally charged but faces a civil lawsuit stemming from his advocacy to state officials to obtain federal TANF funds.

At least $77 million in TANF funds, supposed to be given to poor families, were instead given to rich people, according to a Mississippi state audit, ESPN reported.

“I believe that I got swept up in a civil lawsuit at the instigation of a state auditor shading an ambitious public official who decided he was determined to tarnish my reputation to try to advance his own political career,” Favre said.

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo., said TANF has been “undermined by rampant waste, fraud, and abuse” — leaving fewer services for those who really need them.

“But we all know this problem is not limited to Mississippi,” Smith said, pointing at California and Michigan as additional examples. “How big a problem is it? What is the rate of improper payments? No one knows, because the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has never reported a rate of improper payment. Together, this lack of federal protections has created the perfect storm for waste, fraud and abuse.”

Smith explained that Favre’s testimony “can help shed additional light on the need to pursue reforms to states’ ability to spend TANF.”

“We look forward to hearing his insights into how weak federal oversight and self-dealing state officials contributed to Mississippi’s case,” Smith said. “He saw how embezzlement and mismanagement hurt the people whom welfare is supposed to help. Thank you for coming here and using your name and platform to draw attention to the need for stronger federal safeguards in TANF spending to ensure what happened in Mississippi doesn’t happen again.”

Lawmakers were expected to press Favre about his efforts to help fund a volleyball facility at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi, where his daughter was a student-athlete, as well as Prevacus, a company developing a concussion drug where Favre had invested substantial capital.

Text messages made public in legal filings show Favre pushed state officials for funding for the volleyball facility during the time his daughter was on the team. The university’s athletic foundation received $5 million in TANF funds. Favre donated $1.4 million of his own money to construct the facility, ESPN reported.

“I wanted to help my alma mater and benefit the community,” Favre testified. “I had no way of knowing that there was anything wrong with how the state funded the project, especially since it was publicly approved by many state agencies and multiple attorneys, including the attorney general.”

Favre was also paid $1.1 million from TANF funds for speeches the state auditor said Favre never made. He paid that money back, but the auditor has demanded he also pay $228,000 in interest, according to ESPN.

“Importantly, I have learned that nobody was or is watching how TANF funds are spent,” Favre said. “I urge Congress put down guardrails in place to ensure that what happened in Mississippi doesn’t happen again.”

Favre was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016 after a 20-year career with the Falcons, Packers, Jets and Vikings. He built his legend in 16 years in Green Bay, winning three straight MVPs from 1995-1997. He finished top 5 in MVP voting four other times as well.

He owned the career record for most passing yards and most touchdowns when he retired, though Tom Brady now holds both marks. Famously known as a gunslinger at the QB position, he still holds the ignominious record for most career interceptions. He was also famously durable in his career, holding the record for most consecutive starts (297).

He won his lone Super Bowl title in January 1997 with a 35-21 victory over the Patriots in New Orleans.

Michael Keaton reveals plans to start using combo of birth and professional name – 101.9fm The MIX – WTMX Chicago

James MacCauley/Shutterstock

You know him as Michael Keaton, but the actor is planning to change his name in show business.

Born Michael Douglas — just like the two-time Wall Street Oscar winner — the Beetlejuice star opened up in a new interview about choosing his professional moniker when starting out in the ’70s due to the Screen Actors Guild rule that prohibits two members from having the same name.

Keaton told People he doesn’t recall if he found his chosen name in a phone book like the rumors suggest, but added, “I must’ve gone, ‘I don’t know, let me think of something here.’ And I went, ‘Oh, that sounds reasonable.’”

Despite making a name for himself — quite literally — throughout his decadeslong career, starring in movies like Birdman and even playing Batman, the actor said he’d like to go by a combination of his birth name and stage name: Michael Keaton Douglas.

In fact, Keaton said he intended to be credited with the hybrid name on Knox Goes Away, the film he directed and starred in that was released in theaters earlier this year, but simply “forgot.”

“It totally got away from me,” he said. “And I forgot to give them enough time to put it in and create that. But it will happen.”

“Michael Keaton” can next be seen on the big screen in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the long-awaited sequel coming more than 35 years after the original, out Friday.

Broken-hearted Mariah Carey reveals mother and sister passed on the same day – MOViN 92.5

RB/Bauer-Griffin/GC Images

Condolences go out to Mariah Carey, who has just lost two close family members.

The superstar singer revealed in a statement to ABC News, “My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister [Alison] lost her life on the same day.”

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed,” she continued. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”

She didn’t offer any details regarding the cause of death.

Mariah’s mother, Patricia, a trained opera singer and vocal coach, divorced her father, Alfred Carey, when Mariah was 3. In the dedication section of her memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, Mariah wrote, “And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could. I will love you the best I can, always.”

Mariah’s relationship with her sister Alison was fraught. Alison sued Mariah for “public humiliation” in 2021 after Mariah wrote in her memoir that her sister had “drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third-degree burns, and tried to sell me out to a pimp.”

Hollywood director David Lynch reveals lung disease but ‘will never retire’

Getty Images David LynchGetty Images

David Lynch has revealed he’s been diagnosed with emphysema, a chronic lung disease, from “many years of smoking”.

The Hollywood film director, who was behind the hit mystery TV series Twin Peaks, said that despite the diagnosis, he is in “excellent shape” and will “never retire”.

In an interview with the British film magazine Sight and Sound, the 78-year-old said the condition affects his mobility which means he will only be able to direct films remotely in future.

Lynch has now posted on X, formerly Twitter, saying his diagnosis is the “price to pay” for his smoking habit but revealed he quit two years ago.

What is emphysema?

Emphysema is a form of COPD or Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

It occurs when there is damage to the air sacs in the lungs.

The main symptoms are shortness of breath, a persistent chesty cough, frequent chest infections and wheezing.

The breathing problems tend to get gradually worse over time.

The main cause of COPD is smoking, although the condition can sometimes affect people who have never smoked.

‘Filled with happiness’

“I have to say I enjoyed smoking very much” he wrote “but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment”.

Emphysema is a condition which causes shortness of breath and a persistent cough.

But despite living with it he says he is “filled with happiness” and has thanked fans for their concern.

Lynch has directed 10 feature films including the Oscar-nominated Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and The Elephant Man.

His last major project was Twin Peaks: the Return, which was broadcast in 2017 and continued the TV series which ran for two seasons in the early 1990s.

Daisy Ridley Reveals Graves’ Disease Diagnosis

Daisy Ridley has revealed she has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

In her cover story for Women’s Heath, the Star Wars actress shared she was told she has the autoimmune disorder last September. Ridley realized there was something wrong with her health while filming the thriller Magpie, about a woman losing control as her relationship with her husband crumbles.

“I thought, ‘Well, I’ve just played a really stressful role; presumably that’s why I feel poorly,’” the actress recalled. Her general practitioner encouraged her to visit an endocrinologist after experiencing symptoms such as a racing heart rate, weight loss, fatigue and tremors.

When the doctor described that Graves’ can make you feel “tired but wired,” this clicked for Ridley. “It was funny, I was like, ‘Oh, I just thought I was annoyed at the world,’ but turns out everything is functioning so quickly, you can’t chill out.’”

Since then, Ridley has adopted a routine of daily medication as well as integrating wellness measures such as infrared saunas, cryotherapy, massages, acupuncture and baths. She also decided to go on a gluten-free diet to reduce her inflammation. “I am not super strict about it, but generally cutting down on gluten makes me feel better,” she said.

Mayo Clinic describes Graves’ disease as an “immune system condition that affects the thyroid gland. It causes the body to make too much thyroid hormone,” leading to hyperthyroidism, which can affect multiple organs. Though anyone can get Graves’ disease, it’s more commonly found in women, as well as people over the age of 30.

Ridley isn’t the only celebrity to speak up about being diagnosed with the disease. In 2018, Wendy Williams revealed she has Graves’ disease and took a three-week hiatus from her eponymous talk show due to the ailment.
