Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler will make first NFL start Sunday against Tampa Bay

Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler will make first NFL start Sunday against Tampa Bay

While Allen said that Carr will return to the starting lineup upon his return and didn’t rule out Haener starting at some point, he said Rattler needn’t concern himself with having a short leash Sunday.

“I think you’ve got to let the guy go in there and play,” Allen said. “We’re not going into this game saying, ‘You make a mistake and we’re going to pull you.’ He’s going in to play. He’s going to start, he’s going to lead the team, and we go from there.

“You don’t want to go into this thing like it’s this major ordeal. He’s the next man up, get an opportunity to go in and play. Go play and have fun, do what you’ve been trained to do.

“I think sometimes you can make too big a deal of it and create more of an issue than you really need to. We’ll go through the things that he needs to know, we’ll get him prepared and then we’ll let him go out there and play.”

Though Rattler had been the emergency quarterback for five games, Allen said Rattler had impressed in practice.

“He goes against us on the ‘show” team every day and he’s got athletic ability, he can throw the ball, he’s accurate, he creates some plays on the scout team,” Allen said. “I just think this is a guy who has a lot of ability and certainly he’s a rookie, so we know that we’re going to have some challenges that go along with that, but I think we’ll have a good plan for him and we’ll be excited about going out and playing.

“He’s done a good job for us on the show team. He’s made some really good plays against our defense. He’s made some awkward throws and his mobility has been good.

“It’s going to be incumbent on us as coaches to put him in the best position to be successful.”

Former Phoenix prep star Spencer Rattler to start for Saints

Former Phoenix prep star Spencer Rattler to start for Saints

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler is scheduled to take his first regular-season NFL snaps on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A former Phoenix Pinnacle High star, Rattler joins San Francisco 49ers’ Brock Purdy of Gilbert Perry High as the NFL’s only two starting quarterbacks to play high school ball in Arizona.

At Pinnacle, Rattler was rated by 247 Sports as the best pro-style quarterback and a top-10 overall prospect in the 2019 class, initially signing with Oklahoma before transferring to South Carolina.

Saints coach Dennis Allen selected Rattler as this week’s starter on Wednesday after confirming that usual starter Derek Carr will miss at least one game because of a left oblique injury that occurred in the fourth quarter of New Orleans’ 26-13 loss in Kansas City on Monday night.

“We just internally talked a lot about it and felt like in this particular game he was going to give us the best chance to win,” Allen said. “He’s a rookie. So, we’re going to have some challenges that go along with that. But I think we’ll have a good plan for him.”

The decision means that — for now — the 24-year-old Rattler moves ahead of second-year pro Jake Haener on the depth chart.

Haener, 25, replaced Carr after his injury in Kansas City and also played late in a pair of lopsided victories to start the season. He’s attempted just eight passes during his chances to play this season, completing two for 17 yards. He has not been intercepted and has not thrown for a touchdown.

Allen noted that Rattler had shown promise while serving as the scout team QB during the first five weeks of the season.

“He’s made some really good plays against our defense,” Allen said. “He’s made some accurate throws and his mobility’s been good.”

Rattler, 24, was selected by the Saints in the fifth round of last spring’s NFL draft out of South Carolina, where he started for two seasons after transferring from Oklahoma.

During his final college season in 2023, he started 12 games, passing for 3,186 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Allen said Rattler should not worry about being subbed out quickly if he struggles to perform during New Orleans’ first few possessions.

“You’ve got to let the guy go in there and play,” Allen said. “We’re not going into this game saying that, you know, ‘If you make a mistake, we’re going to pull you.’”

Meanwhile, Rattler’s center will be newly acquired, eight-year veteran Conner McGovern, who made his debut with the club on Monday night.

He was acquired as Shane Lemieux (ankle) became the second Saints center this season to go on injured reserve, joining usual starter Erik McCoy (groin).

McGovern’s first time snapping the ball to Rattler was during a light walkthrough the Saints held on Wednesday.

“He was dialed in,” McGovern said. “You could tell he was playing with a lot of confidence. His huddle presence was really professional.

“That’s what I always look for in a quarterback,” McGovern added. “You need that swagger, that confidence, to play quarterback and he was playing with it today.”

The Saints (2-3), who’ve lost three straight, are about to play two games in the span of five days. After Sunday’s matchup with the Bucs, Denver visits the following Thursday night. The compressed timeline increases the likelihood that Carr could miss more than one game.

Allen stressed that while Rattler is now preparing to start, “It’s really basically going to be kind of a week-to-week deal.”

“We’ll worry about this week right now and see where we’re at after that,” Allen said.

New York Jets fire coach Robert Saleh after 2-3 start and apparent tension with Aaron Rodgers

New York Jets fire coach Robert Saleh after 2-3 start and apparent tension with Aaron Rodgers

The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday amid the team’s disappointing start to this season and apparent tensions with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the team’s interim head coach, the Jets announced, as Saleh leaves Florham Park, New Jersey, with an overall record of 20-26 in a little more than 3¼ seasons at the helm.

“This morning, I informed Robert Saleh that he will no longer serve as Head Coach of the Jets,” team owner Woody Johnson said in a statement.

More Sports from NBC News

“This was not an easy decision but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction.”

The team entered the season with high hopes and Rodgers’ return to the huddle after he missed nearly all of 2023 with a leg injury.

The Jets were blown out in the season opener by the San Francisco 49ers before they rebounded with wins over the woeful Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots.

But the past two weekends have ended in frustrating losses, at home to the Denver Broncos and in London against the Minnesota Vikings.

In addition to the losing, there have also been perceptions of tension between Rogers and Saleh.

The Jets committed five false start penalties in the Denver loss, and Saleh said they could be linked to the tricky cadence Rodgers uses when he barks out pre-snap signals.

And in the win over New England, Rodgers appeared to rebuff an attempted hug from Saleh after a touchdown.

When he was hired, Saleh was celebrated as the first Muslim head coach of an NFL team. He was escorted out of team headquarters by the team’s security director, NBC Sports reported.

“We commend Coach Robert Saleh for making history as the first American Muslim head coach in NFL history,” the Council on American Islamic Relations, a Muslim civil rights organization, said in a statement Tuesday.

“Although no one should jump to conclusions about why the Jets fired Coach Saleh, the report that Jets security physically escorted Saleh out of the building does raise concerns about the possible motive for such unusual hostility.”

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., called Saleh’s firing a “raw deal” and pinned the team’s poor fortunes on Rodgers, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, the front office and former QB Zach Wilson.

“Robert Saleh got a raw deal and Aaron Rodgers undermined him every step of the way,” Bowman posted on X. “This was downhill since @nyjets drafted Zach Wilson. Nathaniel Hackett is trash. Saleh kept the defense great through the toughest times. Raw deal.”

Bowman also wondered out loud whether Saleh’s embrace of his Lebanese heritage could have played a role in this termination.

Although Saleh has worn a patch of the Lebanese flag on his in-game gear before, it drew new eyes Sunday in the wake of Israel’s ongoing attack on its northern neighbor.

Saleh, 45, joined the Jets after a successful four-season run as defensive coordinator of the 49ers.

“We are very proud of Robert and the achievements he made in his young career,” American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Executive Director Abed Ayoub said in a statement.

“As the first Muslim Arab-American NFL head coach, he has paved the way for future talent in our community. We have no doubt that New York is not the last stop on his coaching and football journey. The community will always be there, cheering on his continued success and growth.”

Saleh is also the third coach in this past decade to be fired after his team lost in London.

The Oakland Raiders terminated Dennis Allen in 2014 after an 0-4 start and a loss to the Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium.

Miami fired Joe Philbin after his 1-3 Dolphins lost in 2015 to the Jets, also at Wembley.

Jayden Daniels Thrills Fans with Historic Start as Commanders Dominate Watson, Browns | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors

Jayden Daniels’ magical rookie season continued on Sunday as the No. 2 pick led the Washington Commanders to a 34-13 win over the Cleveland Browns.

While he threw his second interception of the year, he finished with 238 passing yards, a touchdown through the air and 82 rushing yards. He also made history, becoming the first player in NFL history to record 1,000-plus passing yards and 250-plus rushing yards through five career games.

More history: No player in NFL history has ever had 1,000+ passing yards and 250+ rushing yards in their first 5 career games—until Jayden Daniels.

You’re witnessing a superstar. pic.twitter.com/z4LJkKqUeZ

The LSU product continued to be nothing short of spectacular in Week 5, and fans had high praises for Daniels on social media following the win.

Daniels has been everything the Commanders could have asked for out of the No. 2 pick through five games. Not only is he developing well and putting up big numbers, but he’s also leading Washington to wins.

With Sunday’s victory, the Commanders improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2008. The fourth win of the year also means Washington has matched its win total for the entire 2023 season, showing major improvements early on.

Daniels and the Commanders will get one of their biggest tests of the season so far when they take on the Baltimore Ravens next week, which will be a good measuring stick, but after Week 5 it’s hard to deny Washington is looking like a playoff team.

Rosh Hashanah 2024: When does it start, what is it and how long does it last?

Beginning at sundown Wednesday, Jews worldwide will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, marking the start of the Jewish New Year.

When is Rosh Hashanah?

Rosh Hashanah will begin at sundown on Wednesday and end Friday at sundown.

It marks the start of the Jewish High Holidays, a 10-day season that ends with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.

This day is among the holiest days in Judaism — and it begins on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, which almost always falls during the months of September or October each year.

It also marks the start of year 5785 in the Jewish calendar

What is Rosh Hashanah?

Rosh Hashanah means “head of the year” or “first of the year,” the festival is a time for reflection.

It is often celebrated with prayer, symbolic foods and the blowing of a traditional horn called a shofar (the ram’s horn).

Rosh Hashanah “commemorates the creation of the world and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection and repentance that culminates in the Yom Kippur holiday, also known as the Day of Atonement,” according to History.com.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the two “High Holy Days” in the Jewish religion.

What are the symbolic foods of Rosh Hashanah?

The holiday’s foods include honey-dipped apples, which represent sweetness and the hope for sweetness in the year ahead.

Also, round loaves of challah (braided egg bread) honor and respect the cycle of life.

The pomegranate — with its plentiful seeds — is a joyful reminder of many blessings.

And the head of a fish, often displayed on a platter for all to see, represents the head of or the start of a new year, according to multiple sources.

The fish also represents fertility and abundance.

Emotions higher than ever this year

This year, for many, the emotions will be extraordinarily powerful, given that the midpoint of the 10 days spanning Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is Oct. 7 — the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack that killed 1,200 Israelis and triggered the still-ongoing war in Gaza.

For Jews in the U.S. — the world’s second-largest Jewish community after Israel — the past 12 months have been challenging in many ways linked to Oct. 7. There’s been a surge in antisemitic incidents, and many college campuses were wracked by divisive pro-Palestinian protests. Jews grieved for Israelis killed or taken hostage by Hamas; many also are grieving for the tens of thousands of Palestinians subsequently killed during Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

In many Jewish communities across the U.S., special services are planned in conjunction with the Oct. 7 anniversary.

One distinctive example is in New York City, where Jews who oppose Zionism and support pro-Palestinian causes will convene for an evening service as Rosh Hashanah begins on Wednesday.

Leading the service will be Rabbi Andy Kahn, executive director of the American Council for Judaism – an 82-year-old organization focused on Judaism as a religion as opposed to a nationality.

“I’ve felt a big part of my calling is creating spaces for people who want a Jewish life, but don’t identify with Zionism,” said Kahn. “I know a lot of people – Jews, non-Jews, Palestinians — who want Palestinian liberation and who are not antisemitic.”

When is Yom Kippur?

This year, Yom Kippur will be observed from around sunset on Friday, Oct. 11, until after nightfall on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Associated Press and FOX News contributed to this report.

Fast Start Fuels No. 22/22 BYU Past Bears

By Jerry Hill
Baylor Bear Insider

WACO, Texas — Digging an early hole, Baylor football couldn’t overcome a 21-point first-quarter deficit and fell to the 22nd-ranked BYU Cougars, 34-28, Saturday afternoon at McLane Stadium.

The Bears twice had chances to take the lead, but they turned it over on downs at the Cougars’ 25 after a first-career interception by defensive lineman Elinus Noel III and then safety Crew Wakley picked off a Sawyer Robertson pass intended for receiver Ashtyn Hawkins

In a career performance, Robertson completed 27-of-48 passes for 324 yards and three touchdowns and also scored on a 20-yard TD run. But he was also picked off twice and was sacked three times for 30 yards in losses.

BYU (5-0, 2-0) quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns and added 53 yards and another score on the ground to account for the bulk of the Cougars’ 367 yards total offense. Darius Lassiter caught eight passes for 120 yards, including a 44-yard TD grab.

For the Bears (2-3, 0-2), Josh Cameron also had a breakout game with seven catches for a career-high 125 yards and two touchdowns.

Facing a 31-14 deficit at the half, Baylor came back with a 15-yard TD pass from Robertson to Ashtyn Hawkins in the third quarter and then pulled within a single score when Cameron hauled in a 23-yarder with 10:07 left in the game.

Scoring on each of its first four possessions, BYU jumped out to a 28-7 lead in the first 21 minutes of an opening half that saw the Cougars outgain the Bears, 286-216, and dominate time of possession, 17:59-12:01.

Retzlaff had touchdown passes of 26 yards to Miles Davis and a perfect 44-yard strike to Lassiter and also scored on a 17-yard run. BYU’s other score, a two-yard run by Chase Roberts, came after a batted interception by defensive tackle Blake Mangelson on Baylor’s first offensive play of the game.

The offense put together a nice drive, moving from its own 25 down to the Cougars’ 29, but linebacker Isaiah Glasker dropped Bryson Washington for a two-yard loss on fourth-and-one for a turnover on downs.

Trailing 21-0, Baylor got on the board late in the first quarter when Robertson scored on a 20-yard keeper on another fourth-and-one play, somehow leaping and squeezing between two players to get free up the middle. That capped off an eight-play, 80-yard drive that took 3 ½ minutes off the clock.

The Bears scored again on a one-yard TD pass from Robertson to Cameron with 2:12 left in the half, but Will Ferrin padded BYU’s lead with a 54-yard field goal before freshman Connor Hawkins missed his first career field goal attempt from 50 on the last play of the half.

Baylor will go back on the road to face 18th-ranked Iowa State (3-0, 0-0) at 6:30 p.m. next Saturday, Oct. 5, at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames. The Cyclones are playing at Houston Saturday night.

UFC Fight Night prediction — Renato Moicano vs. Benoit Saint Denis: Fight card, start time, odds, live stream

UFC Fight Night takes over Accor Arena in Paris on Saturday with a dynamite lightweight main event. Renato Moicano and Benoit Saint Denis are two of the division’s more reliable finishers, and they look to make a play for the official UFC top 10 on Saturday.

Moicano (19-5-1) has been a UFC fighter for 10 years, but he’s recently become a success story. Moicano’s active three-fight winning streak is the best since his first three fights with the promotion, and it’s coming against arguably better competition. Moicano found success not only in his performances but also with his voice. “Money” Moicano’s explosive and expletive-filled post-fight speeches have made him a hit among regular mixed martial arts viewers.

“Be yourself, but be a little louder. People will pay attention…” Moicano told CBS Sports. “If you try to play a character you don’t like, you’ll hate doing it all the time. For me, I usually talk the way I am. If people like it, I’m a little bit louder. Especially with the emotions. If you have the emotions, let it flow.”

Saint Denis (13-2, 1 NC) is the first French fighter not named Ciryl Gane to headline a UFC card in Paris. “The God of War” is true to his nickname, winning all his fights by stoppage. Saint Denis rode a five-fight win streak to the biggest opportunity of his career, fighting former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier in the co-main event of UFC 299. Saint Denis performed well in Round 1 but succumbed to a knockout blow in Round 2. Saint Denis, who fought Poirier with a staph infection, learned valuable lessons in defeat.

“Never underestimate anybody and be 100% healthy and prepared when you fight,” Saint Denis told CBS Sports. “Everything has been going very fast in my career. There were a lot of things at the time I wasn’t able to manage. When you become a huge fighter in the UFC, you sort of become your own CEO. All this together, I wasn’t able to manage it well. I had no pleasure in going to train anymore. I had to work on a lot of stuff to bring all parameters back to green.”

Check out the full interview with Benoit Saint Denis.

The co-main event also features a big French name as Nassourdine Imavov looks to continue his strong run at middleweight against another division stalwart in Brendan Allen. Imavov is coming off an impressive — and controversial — stoppage of veteran Jared Cannonier. The questionable referee decision left many fans wondering if it was the right call or not. Regardless of feeling, Imavov has only been beaten once in his last seven appearances and that was against former middleweight champion Sean Strickland in a light heavyweight contest. Allen, meanwhile, is also undefeated in his last seven.

“I thought the stoppage was a little early, but it wasn’t his fault,” Allen told CBS Sports about Imavov’s victory over Cannonier. “The punch that started it was very nice but the stoppage was very bad.”

The rest of the undercard is filled with many European talents with a few Americans looking to get back in the win column. Joanderson Brito is set for a featherweight fight with William Gomis in a featured slot. American Bryan Battle is back in an interesting matchup with Kevin Jousset at welterweight. And opening the main card is veteran lightweight Matt Frevola with he takes on French star Fares Ziam.

Below is the rest of the fight card for Saturday with the latest odds before we get to a prediction and pick on the main event.

UFC Fight Night card, odds

Benoit Saint Denis -290 Renato Moicano +235 Lightweight
Nassourine Imavov -210 Brendan Allen +175 Middleweight
Joanderson Brito -300 William Gomis +240 Featherweight
Bryan Battle -160 Kevin Jousset +135 Welterweight
Morgan Charriere -700 Gabriel Miranda +500 Featherweight
Fares Ziam -125 Matt Frevola +105 Lightweight

Date: Sept. 28 | Start time: 3 p.m. ET (main card)
Location: Accor Arena — Paris
TV channel: ESPN+

Prediction

Renato Moicano vs. Benoit Saint Denis: Saint Denis’ stubborn defensive gaps should prevent him from being an elite lightweight, but it’ll likely overwhelm Moicano. Saint Denis fights like the Tasmanian Devil, a nonstop whirlwind of a force. Saint Denis pairs crushing power punches with relentless wrestling and solid submissions. The combination makes him a finishing threat at nearly all times. While his 42% striking defense cost him against Poirier, Moicano’s striking isn’t quite at that level. Moicano is one of the top lightweight submission players with good striking defense. Saint Denis and Moicano have advantages in striking and jiu-jitsu respectively, but Saint Denis’ advantage is a bigger immediate threat. How effectively wrestling is used could be a determining factor, but I suspect Moicano’s imperfect chin will be his downfall at age 35. Saint Denis via KO2

UEFA YOUTH LEAGUE | AS Monaco 4-3 Barça: Losing start

Barça have not got the UEFA Youth League off to the best of starts. They lost a seven-goal thriller against Monaco, a cruel blow after things had begin so well with two goals to no reply in the first 36 minutes. Coach Juliano Belleti was treated to a fine opener from Arnau Prades, and then the player who had provided the assist, Hugo Alba, got his own name on the scoresheet from the penalty spot.

Things were shaping up very nicely, but by half-time the sides were back level. Tincres headed in after 41 minutes and a powerful strike from Buabre meant it would be 2-2 when the teams headed to the dressing rooms.

Barça were keen to quickly make amends, and after a number of close calls, substitute Pedro Fernández thundered the ball goalward from the edge of the area.

It looked like Barça were back in business, and further goals seemed likely. They were indeed, but sadly for the wrong team. Monaco refused to lie down and in the final phase started producing their best football of the afternoon. Tincres nabbed his second goal of the day to square things up yet again, and then Carvalho put the home side ahead for the first time.

Frustratingly, a game that Barça looked on good course to win ended without even a consolation point to take back to Catalonia.

Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC 306

.

Brian Ortega and Diego Lopes meet Saturday on the main card of UFC 306 at Sphere in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 0-5

UFC main cards, 2024: 76-66-3

Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes UFC 306 preview

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier might’ve hit the nail on the head when he said recently that Lopes (25-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) beating Ortega (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) would be “a bit of a changing of the guard” given where both fighters are at in their careers. … Ortega, 33, has struggled to be active since challenging for the featherweight title, going 2-3 in the past six years. He’s coming off a Performance of the Night submission win over Yair Rodriguez this past February. Ortega was slated to fight Lopes in June at UFC 303, but he was forced to pull out after a tough weight cut. … Lopes, 29, has made noise since joining the UFC last year, as he was named MMA Junkie’s Newcomer of the Year for 2023. He’s on a four-fight winning streak, including a decision win over Dan Ige, who took the fight at UFC 303 on just a few hours’ notice following Ortega’s withdrawal.

Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes UFC 306 expert pick, prediction

These two were initially booked back at UFC 303 until health issues post-weight cut forced Ortega to withdraw, which, in turn, set up a memorable last-minute booking between Lopes and Dan Ige.

Although Ortega and Lopes have much closer to a full camp this time around, it’s still hard to be confident in the health status of either combatant considering the quick nature of this turnaround and the context surrounding this can’t-miss, once-in-a-lifetime event.

For that reason, I almost find myself leaning into things like age and durability given the x-factors that quietly loom large.

Ortega is the more proven product on paper when it comes to everything from his skills to his experience, but Lopes still possesses some stylistic edges (that I further outline in the in-depth breakdown I put out for this fight back in June) that could come in handy for this fight.

Whether Lopes is countering Ortega’s kicks or taxing him with straight shots down the center, I suspect that the Lobo Gym representative will be able to pile on to the existing damage that “T-City” accrued over his career.

I’ll stick with my initial forecast for Lopes to produce a stoppage via strikes in Round 2.

Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes UFC 306 odds

The oddsmakers and public are favoring the younger fighter, listing Lopes (-188) and Ortega (+146) via FanDuel.

Brian Ortega vs. Diego Lopes UFC 306 start time, how to watch

As the featured bout on the main card, Ortega and Lopes are expected to make their walks to the octagon at approximately 11:30 p.m. ET (8:30 p.m. locally in Las Vegas). The fight will stream on ESPN+ pay-per-view.

Florida State football fans feeling the disappointment of 0-3 start

 • Florida State football fell to 0-3 with a 20-12 loss against Memphis Saturday.
 • Despite the return of the war chant on third downs and more Marching Chief music, fans said they’re feeling deflated.
 • Watch now to hear from coach Mike Norvell on FSU’s winless start.

BROADCAST TRANSCRIPT:

It came down to the final play, but Florida State football is now 0-3 after losing to Memphis, 20-12.

I’m Alberto Camargo, your College Town neighborhood reporter.

Last week, I told you about fans speaking up, saying they want more Marching Chiefs music during home games.

They got that Saturday — war chants on third down and the Chiefs playing significantly more overall.

What they didn’t get — was that first win of 2024.

The Seminoles never had a lead against Memphis.

And the crowd at Doak let them hear it.

I caught up with a few FSU fans after the game, to see how they feel.

“Deflated. A little deflated.”

“It was disappointing. Head was in my hands.”

Coach Mike Norvell agrees.

“Extremely disappointed with the outcome. Extremely disappointed with the way we played at times. Disappointed I’ve not been able to get more out of what I believe this team is.”

For the second time in five seasons under Norvell, the Seminoles have lost their first three games.

Fans say it hurts even more coming after the resounding success of last season.

“If it’s going to be a rebuilding year, that’s great. But we just need to see progress.”

“Obviously we weren’t going to be 12-0 like we were last year, but I thought we would have won these first three games.”

I also asked fans what they thought of the in-stadium music, after thousands of fans petitioned for more Marching Chiefs and less piped-in DJ music.

On that front , Saturday was a success — and the fans felt it.

“I think with the whole thing with the music situation from last week, the Chiefs were on it today.”

“The band was definitely into it. The crowd was into it too. Even when we were down to Memphis, it seemed like the crowd was into because of the band.”

FSU will try it all again next weekend against California, under the lights at 7 p.m.

In College Town, Alberto Camargo, ABC27.
