Hoda Kotb is leaving

Hoda Kotb Announces She’s Leaving the TODAY Show

Hoda Kotb has announced that she is leaving TODAY early next year, but will remain part of the NBC family.

She tearfully recounted on TODAY on Sept. 26 about how her 60th birthday celebration in August prompted a decision to make a change.

“I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60, and to try something new,” she said. “I remembered standing outside looking at these beautiful bunch of people with these gorgeous signs, and I thought, ‘This is what the top of the wave feels like for me.’ And I thought it can’t get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on.”

Hoda Kotb sits with her colleagues as she announces she’s leaving TODAY in early 2025.Nathan Congleton / TODAY

Hoda’s intention to spend more time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, also factored into her decision.

“Obviously I had my kiddos late in life, and I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have,” she said. “I feel like we only have a finite amount of time.

“And so, with all that being said, this is the hardest thing in the world.”

She said she will remain with TODAY through early next year, and is going to stay in the NBC family in an unspecified role.

“It’s kind of a big deal for me,” she said through tears. “I’ve been practicing so I wouldn’t cry, but anyway, I did.”

Hoda has been part of the fabric at NBC News for nearly three decades, after previously working at “Dateline” and as the co-host of the fourth hour of TODAY with Kathie Lee Gifford and then Jenna Bush Hager. She and Savannah Guthrie have co-anchored TODAY for more than five years.

“We love you so much,” Savannah tearfully said on TODAY. “And when you look around and see these tears, they’re love. You are so loved. We don’t want to imagine this place without you.

“So it’s complicated because we love you so much, and we don’t want you to ever go,” she continued. “But also I just want to say I am so proud of my friend. You have guts. For someone to leave at the top of their game, to leave something that’s wonderful that you love, where it’s easy and comfortable and beautiful and fun, and say, ‘But I dream bigger for myself into the great unknown.’ You have so much guts. You inspire me. I love you.”

The TODAY family all shared emotional messages with Hoda on the show.

“It’s not over,” Jenna Bush Hager said. “I’m going to be showing up at your house like the stalker you are to Zac Brown. I will be there on your doorstep, and we are your friends forever.”

“Hoda has a relationship with every single person on this couch in her own way, so I think we’re all just kind of wrestling with it inside,” Sheinelle Jones said. “But we also know what a dynamic mom you are, and presence you are. And your whole movement with wellness, you are going to change the world. And we know it.”

One of Hoda’s oldest friends during her time with NBC has been weatherman Al Roker.

“I have never known anybody like you,” Al said. “I’ve known you forever, and I love you.”

Craig Melvin also paid tribute to Hoda’s genuine friendship.

“People in this business, when that little red light, it goes off, they’re different people,” Craig said. “We’ve worked with all these people before. You’re the opposite. That little red light goes off, you are exactly like people see you in the morning — just the biggest heart.

“You’ve been the heart of this show for a long time, and there’s no replacing that.”

She reflected on all her relationships with those behind the camera and the rest of the staff, plus the TODAY fans who gather every day in Rockefeller Plaza to brighten her morning.

Hoda also shared a letter to the TODAY staff on Sept. 26 about her decision to step down. Read it in full below.

To my TODAY family,

As I write this, my heart is all over the map. I know I’m making the right decision, but it’s a painful one. And you all are the reason why. They say two things can be right at the same time, and I’m feeling that so deeply right now. I love you and it’s time for me to leave the show.

My time at NBC has been the longest professional love affair of my life. But only because you’ve been beside me on this twenty-six-year adventure. Looking back, the math is nuts. 26 years at NBC News – Ten years at Dateline, seven on the seven o’clock hour, sixteen on the ten o’clock hour. I’m picturing your faces and your families and all the ways you’ve lifted me up and inspired me. That’s my heart singing. So many of my professional relationships have become some of my most cherished friendships. Savannah: my rock. Jenna: my ride-or-die. Al: my longest friend at 30 Rock. Craig, Carson, Sheinelle and Dylan: my family. Libby, Mazz and Talia: my fearless leaders. I will miss each and every one of you at TODAY desperately.

I’ve been weighing this decision for quite a while – Am I truly ready? But, my sixtieth birthday celebration on the Plaza felt like a shift. Like a massive, joyful YES, you are! I saw it all so clearly: my broadcast career has been beyond meaningful, a new decade of my life lies ahead, and now my daughters and my mom need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie. I will miss you all desperately, but I’m ready and excited.

Because I’ll be working through the beginning of 2025, there’s plenty of time to talk about what’s ahead for all of us. But one thing I know for sure right now is this: everything’s going to be just fine. The Peacock’s feathers are never ruffled… no matter who comes or goes. TODAY and its amazing people — all of you — never waver. You always weather change with grace and guts.

Happily and gratefully, I plan to remain a part of the NBC family, the longest work relationship I’ve been lucky enough to hold close to my heart. I’ll be around. How could I not? Family is family and you all will always be a part of mine.

Love,

Hoda

Hoda Kotb announces she is stepping down as co-host of the "Today" show.

Hoda Kotb will step down as co-anchor of NBC’s ‘TODAY’ show

Hoda Kotb, a beloved mainstay of NBC News’ “TODAY” for nearly two decades, announced Thursday that she will step down from the network’s flagship morning show early next year.

She said she made the decision after she turned 60 last month. “I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new,” she said, fighting back tears and surrounded by her fellow hosts.

Kotb has co-anchored “TODAY” with Savannah Guthrie since early 2018. They were the show’s first all-female anchor team.

Guthrie, visibly emotional, said the “TODAY” team doesn’t “want to imagine this place without you.” Guthrie praised Kotb for her “guts” and said she is exiting at “the top of [her] game.”

In a written message to her colleagues, Kotb said her daughters and her mother “need and deserve a bigger slice of my time pie.”

Kotb said she would stay with “TODAY” through the start of next year and continue with NBC in an unspecified role. (NBC News did not immediately announce her successor.)

“Happily and gratefully, I plan to remain a part of the NBC family, the longest work relationship I’ve been lucky enough to hold close to my heart. I’ll be around. How could I not?”

“Family is family and you all will always be a part of mine,” she wrote.

Al Roker, the legendary “TODAY” weatherman and co-host, paid tribute to Kotb: “I have never known anybody like you. … I’ve known you forever and love you.”

“TODAY” has long been one of NBC’s marquee television franchises and drivers of advertising revenue. “TODAY” has topped ABC’s “Good Morning America” among adults ages 25 to 54 for 58 consecutive weeks — the show’s best streak in more than three years — according to Nielsen statistics cited by the network.

Kotb joined NBC News as a correspondent for “Dateline” in 1998. She went on to cover a wide array of domestic and international news stories before she joined the “TODAY” team in 2007, co-hosting the show’s lighthearted fourth hour alongside Kathie Lee Gifford.

Kotb and Gifford attracted a loyal following with their easygoing banter and spirited celebrity interviews. Kotb currently co-hosts the fourth hour of “TODAY” with Jenna Bush Hager.

Kotb temporarily stepped into the “TODAY” co-anchor role in November 2017 after NBC News fired Matt Lauer following a female colleague’s detailed complaint accusing him of inappropriate sexual behavior.

She permanently took over co-anchor duties at the start of 2018. In on-air remarks at the time, Guthrie said “this has to be the most popular decision NBC News has ever made, and I am so thrilled.”

Kotb and Guthrie have co-anchored the “TODAY” news hours during some of the most pivotal chapters in recent history, including the presidencies of Donald Trump and Joe Biden, as well as the Covid pandemic and the Israel-Hamas war.

Kotb has also chronicled her own story, such as her experience with breast cancer and the adoptions of her two daughters, 7-year-old Haley and 5-year-old Hope.

In her written message, Kotb said that “there’s plenty of time to talk about what’s ahead for all of us.”

“But one thing I know for sure right now is this: everything’s going to be just fine,” she wrote. “The Peacock’s feathers are never ruffled … no matter who comes or goes. ‘TODAY’ and its amazing people — all of you — never waver. You always weather change with grace.”

You can also watch sports airing on network TV with an affordable indoor antenna, which pulls in local over-the-air HDTV channels such as CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, PBS, Univision and more. Here’s the kicker: There’s no monthly charge.

For anyone living in a partially blocked-off area (those near mountains or first-floor apartments), a digital TV antenna may not pick up a good signal — or any signal at all. But for many homes, a digital TV antenna provides a seriously inexpensive way to watch sports without paying a cable company. Indoor TV antennas can also provide some much-needed TV backup if a storm knocks out your cable.

This ultra-thin, multi-directional digital antenna with a 65-mile range can receive hundreds of HD TV channels, including ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS, Fox, and Univision and can filter out cellular and FM signals. It delivers a high-quality picture in 1080p HDTV, top-tier sound and features a 12-foot digital coax cable.

The Oregon vs. Oregon State game will be played today. The Oregon State Beavers and the University of Oregon Ducks each come into the weekend undefeated.

Find out how and when to watch the Oregon vs. Oregon State NCAA college football game by reading below.

How and when to watch the Oregon vs. Oregon State game

The Oregon vs. Oregon State game will be played on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. PT). The college football game will air on Fox and stream on Sling TV and the platforms featured below.

How and when to watch the Oregon vs. Oregon State game without cable

While many cable packages include Fox, it’s easy to watch the game if Fox isn’t included in your cable TV subscription, or if you don’t have cable at all. Your best options for watching are below. (Streaming options will require an internet provider.)

Sling TV: The most cost-effective way to stream college football

If you don’t have cable TV that includes Fox, one of the most cost-effective ways to stream college football this season is through a subscription to Sling TV. We suggest leveling up your coverage to the Orange + Blue with Sports Extra tier to get more NFL and college football games this fall.

The Orange + Blue plan regularly costs $60 per month, but the streamer currently offers a $25 off promotion for your first month, so you’ll pay just $35. The Orange + Blue with Sports Extra plan is $50 for your first month and $75 per month after. The Sports Extra add-on features 18 channels, including NFL Redzone, ESPNU, SEC Network, Big 10 Network and ACC Network, making it ideal for pro and college football fans.

The streamer is also currently offering big savings on four months of the Orange + Blue tier plus the Sports Extra plan when you prepay for the Sling TV Season Pass. The plan costs $219, reduced from $300.

Note: Because Sling TV does not carry CBS, Sling subscribers will want to add Paramount+ to their bundle. (Paramount+ and CBS Essentials are both subsidiaries of Paramount Global.)

Top features of Sling TV Orange + Blue plan:

  • Sling TV is our top choice for streaming major sporting events like NASCAR.
  • There are 52 channels to watch in total, including local ESPN, NBC, Fox and ABC affiliates (where available).
  • You get access to most local NFL games and nationally broadcast games at the lowest price.
  • All subscription tiers include 50 hours of cloud-based DVR storage.
  • You can add Golf Channel, NBA TV, NHL Network, NFL RedZone, MLB Network, Tennis Channel and more sports-oriented channels (18 in total) via Sling TV’s Sports Extras add-on.

Watch the Oregon vs. Oregon State game free with FuboTV

Live TV streaming service Fubo offers the same top-tier programming you can get from your local cable provider at a fraction of the price. The streamer is a sports fan’s dream considering the sheer volume of live sporting events you can watch on it.

Fubo packages include access to NFL games airing on your local CBS affiliate, Fox Sunday NFC games via “NFL on Fox,” “Sunday Night Football” on NBC, “Monday Night Football” on ABC and ESPN, and all games aired on NFL Network. There are plenty of channels for NCAA college football fans too, including SEC Network, Big Ten Network and ESPNU.

If you want to give Fubo a try, now’s a great time to do so: Fubo is currently offering $30 off your first month of any subscription tier. That means you can watch every NFL and college football game airing on network TV this week starting at just $49.99 after a seven-day free trial. Once you subscribe, you can begin watching immediately on your TV, phone, tablet or computer.

Top features of Fubo:

  • There are no contracts with Fubo. You can cancel at any time.
  • The Pro ($49.99 first month, $79.99 thereafter) tier includes over 200 channels, including channels not available on some other live TV streaming services.
  • Upgrade to 4K resolution with the Elite with Sports Plus tier ($69.99 first month, $99.99 thereafter). It features 299 channels, including NFL RedZone.
  • Fubo also offers live MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS and international soccer games.
  • All tiers now come with unlimited cloud-based DVR recording.
  • You can watch on up to 10 screens at once with any Fubo plan.

Panthers vs. Saints Livestream: How to Watch NFL Week 1 Online Today

Sling TV Blue: $45 (in some markets $40)

Carries Fox in Houston (KRIV)

Things couldn’t go much worse for the Panthers in 2023. At 2-15, Carolina was the NFL’s worst team and failed to win a single game on the road. They also didn’t even have their own top pick, having sent it to the Bears in 2023 so that the Panthers could take QB Bryce Young.

Young and Carolina will be hoping to start 2024 on the right foot when they head to New Orleans on Sunday to take on the Saints. The Saints enter 2024 having just missed the playoffs last year, finishing with a 9-8 record that put them ninth in the NFC and second in their division, losing tiebreakers to the Seahawks, Packers (wild card) and Buccaneers (divison).

The NFC South rivals will kick off 2024 at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Fox. Here’s how you can watch and stream, even if the game isn’t available on your local Fox channel.

Panthers vs. Saints game today: When and where?

This matchup sees the Saints host the Panthers at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m. PT) on Sunday. The game will take place at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, home of the Saints.

How to watch the Panthers vs. Saints game online from anywhere using a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view the game locally due to incorrectly applied blackout restrictions, you may need a different way to watch the game and that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, plus it’s a great idea for when you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. So if your internet provider or mobile carrier has stuck you with an IP address that incorrectly shows your location in a blackout zone, a VPN can correct that problem by giving you an IP address in your correct, nonblackout area. Most VPNs, like Surfshark, make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US and Canada, as long as you’ve got a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

Looking for other options? Be sure to check out some of the other great VPN deals taking place right now.

Surfshark is a value-packed VPN (and one of the best VPNs we’ve tested) with performance and features that rival higher-priced competitors.

It’s currently priced at $15.45 per month, $48 for the first year (then $60 annually) or $60 for the first two years combined (then $60 annually), with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Read our full review.

How to watch Panthers vs. Saints in the US

Sunday’s Panthers vs. Saints game is on Fox nationally. The good news for football fans is that Fox is available on most of the major live TV streaming services. The least expensive such service is Sling TV Blue.

Sling/CNET

Sling TV’s Blue plan includes NBC, Fox and the NFL Network, though it does not have CBS, ABC or ESPN. Enter your address here to see which local channels are available where you live. NFL RedZone is also available for an extra $11 a month.

Note that to get ABC and ESPN, you’ll need to switch to the similarly priced Orange plan (which drops Fox, NBC and NFL Network) or go for the combined $60 a month Orange and Blue bundle that includes channels from both packages. With the combined plan, the Sports Extra add-on, which has RedZone, is an extra $15 a month.

One important caveat: In our experience, Fox local affiliates will only be available if your billing address is in one of the 18 metropolitan areas covered in Sling’s agreement. If you’re outside of one of these areas, you’re probably better off going with one of the alternate services listed below.

Numerous other live TV streaming services carry local Fox stations as well, namely YouTube TV, Hulu Plus Live TV, DirecTV Stream and Fubo. They all cost far more than Sling, but they also carry a full complement of live channels, including football broadcasting channels like CBS and ESPN. Check out our live TV streaming services guide for details.

Sarah Tew/CNET

For $73 a month, you’ll get all the major football channels with YouTube TV. Plus, RedZone is available for an extra $11 per month. Plug in your ZIP code on YouTube TV’s welcome page to see which local networks are available in your area.

Fubo

Fubo costs at least $92 per month when you factor in the RSN fees it charges, which you don’t need for NFL games but must pay for anyway. Fubo’s base plan costs $80 but it charges an extra $12 a month if you get one RSN or $15 a month if you have two or more in your area. RedZone is available for an extra $11 per month, and you can get 4K broadcasts with its $90-a-month Elite plan. It’s worth noting that Fubo has recently introduced a new $30 off for the first month offer for its Pro, Elite With Sports Plus and Deluxe plans. Click here to see which local channels you get in your region with Fubo. Read our Fubo review.

DirecTV

All the live TV streaming services above offer free trials, allow you to cancel anytime and require a solid internet connection. Looking for more information? Check out our live TV streaming services guide.

An over-the-air antenna connected to your TV provides another option for Fox. The best part about antennas is that there are no streaming or monthly fees required, although you will need to make sure you have good reception.

Quick tips for streaming the Panthers vs. Saints game using a VPN

  • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — experience and success may vary.
  • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
  • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
  • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
  • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.
