Get ready for Sunday’s matchup between the Las Vegas Raiders vs. the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. 

Fans are keeping a close eye on Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp, who has been recovering from an ankle injury. Rams head coach Sean McVay told reporters this week that Kupp’s recovery is “trending in the right direction” and didn’t rule out a return on Sunday.

“He’s feeling good, and the important thing is, what we’ve got to dictate and determine is, is he going to be ready to play like Cooper Kupp’s capable of playing? He’s making good progress. I think we’ll get a good feel. This will be the first time that you’re able to do football-like movements in some of the individual settings,” McVay said. 

Meanwhile, the Raiders are navigating the field without wide receiver Davante Adams after agreeing to trade him to the New York Jets. Adams had been out the past few games with a hamstring injury.

HENDERSON, Nev. – The Las Vegas Raiders and Intermountain Health honored three young cancer survivors with an unforgettable experience in front of the crowd at Allegiant Stadium. Evelyn and Jerry, from Las Vegas, as well as Ruby from Utah, were honored pregame to a cheering crowd in front of the Al Davis Memorial Torch.

Days before the game, they were able to visit the Intermountain Health Performance Center where the Raiders train and practice. The children and their families attended part of practice, were memorably greeted by the full Raiders team, and received a personalized visit from Raiders players Alexander Mattison, Ameer Abdullah, and Andre James, and Raiderettes Camille and Kennedy.

Ali, Ruby’s mother shared, “Ruby and our family got to see the Raiders practice, have lunch at the Intermountain Health Performance Center, and go watch a game at the stadium. We got to hang out with other cancer kiddos, Intermountain Health, Andre James, and talk to fellow fans and strangers who recognized Ruby from the Jumbotron. We are so thankful to Intermountain Health for making this experience possible.

The Raiders, football, Intermountain Health – it’s all about the people. The more we connect as people, in whatever experience we are having, the richer life is. We are coming away from our experience feeling like we won the lottery. It’s been great getting to know fellow fighting families and meeting supportive strangers. We will keep the memories of these experiences forever.”

Young Evelyn is an energetic six-year-old. The aspiring “fashionista” keeps a happy smile despite being dealt with setbacks since she was 21 months old after finding a malignant brain tumor. She was transported by medical helicopter to Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City to begin surgery and her treatments. She is now cancer-free.

Jerry, also six years old, recently was diagnosed with retinoblastoma behind his right eye just after his last birthday. He is currently still receiving cancer treatments that did include the need to remove his right eye. Still, Hudson is the definition of resiliency. His family said he continues to seek out fun, is an avid video game player, and enjoys arts and crafts.

Jerry’s mother Amber shared, “Our whole experience the last couple of weeks with the Raiders and Intermountain Health has been so amazing! Meeting families, connecting, and sharing has been wonderful. Jerry has had core memories made and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of it.”

Ruby, the oldest honoree at 11 years old, also started her cancer journey at a very young age. Doctors found around 40 tumors on her lungs when she was barely three years old. This was a rare melanoma tumor and determined to be Stage 4 cancer. During that time, statistically, there was not much hope.

A new clinical trial was Ruby’s best chance, and it would be the difference she needed as she is now cancer-free. Although the clinical trial therapy had major side effects that she had to navigate, today she loves to play sports, especially soccer and swimming.

The honor from the Raiders and Intermountain caps a rollercoaster that Ruby and her family have endured to the happy occasion.

All of this year’s cancer patients honored were also patients at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital.

New quarterback, same old result.

Indeed, the switch from Gardner Minshew to Aidan O’Connell had little impact.

The Las Vegas Raiders were once again a sloppy flat product on both offense and on defense and were easily beaten at home by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday by a score of 32-13.

Let’s take a look at the key aspects of the game:

Team records: The Las Vegas Raiders are 2-4. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 4-2.

What the win/loss means for the Raiders:

The Raiders, in last place in the AFC West, is dangerously close to falling into a deep hole in the grand playoff scheme. The Raiders are now 2-1 against AFC North opponents with a Week 9 game at the Cincinnati Bengals remaining. Remarkably, the Raiders have trailed by double digits in all six of their games this season. The Raiders have trailed by 20 or more points three of the past four games including twice at home. Not a great look for coach Antonio Pierce and a roster that pushed for him to get hired. Pierce is 7-8 as the Raiders’ coach.

Turning point of the game:

The Steelers turned a Raiders’ turnover into a touchdown to take a 12-7 lead at halftime. Then, the Raiders had a punt blocked deep in their own territory on the first series of the second half that the Steelers turned into three points. Pittsburgh simply took over from that point.

Injury report:

Guard Dylan Parham hurt his foot in the first half. Jordan Meredith replaced him. Wide receiver D.J. Turner was injured in the third quarter.

What’s next for the Raiders:

The Raiders play at the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT. The Rams are 1-4 and had their bye this week. The Raiders will likely have many fans at SoFi Stadium. They are 1-5 there with five straight losses. Their only win there came in 2020 when there weren’t any fans in the stands.

LAS VEGAS — Sin City blew a kiss goodbye to the Tropicana before first light Wednesday in an elaborate implosion that reduced to rubble the last true mob building on the Las Vegas Strip.

The Tropicana’s hotel towers tumbled in a celebration that included a fireworks display. It was the first implosion in nearly a decade for a city that loves fresh starts and that has made casino implosions as much a part of its identity as gambling itself.

“What Las Vegas has done, in classic Las Vegas style, they’ve turned many of these implosions into spectacles,” said Geoff Schumacher, historian and vice president of exhibits and programs at the Mob Museum.

Former casino mogul Steve Wynn changed the way Las Vegas blows up casinos in 1993 with the implosion of the Dunes to make room for the Bellagio. Wynn thought not only to televise the event but created a fantastical story for the implosion that made it look like pirate ships at his other casino across the street were firing at the Dunes.

From then on, Schumacher said, there was a sense in Las Vegas that destruction at that magnitude was worth witnessing.

The city hasn’t blown up a Strip casino since 2016, when the final tower of the Riviera was leveled for a convention center expansion.

This time, the implosion cleared land for a $1.5 billion baseball stadium for the relocating Oakland Athletics, part of the city’s latest rebrand into a sports hub.

That will leave only the Flamingo from the city’s mob era on the Strip. But, Schumacher said, the Flamingo’s original structures are long gone. The casino was completely rebuilt in the 1990s.

The Tropicana, the third-oldest casino on the Strip, closed in April after welcoming guests for 67 years.

Once known as the “Tiffany of the Strip” for its opulence, it was a frequent haunt of the legendary Rat Pack, while its past under the mob has long cemented its place in Las Vegas lore.

It opened in 1957 with three stories and 300 hotel rooms split into two wings.

As Las Vegas rapidly evolved in the following decades, including a building boom of Strip megaresorts in the 1990s, the Tropicana also underwent major changes. Two hotel towers were added in later years. In 1979, the casino’s beloved $1 million green-and-amber stained glass ceiling was installed above the casino floor.

The Tropicana’s original low-rise hotel wings survived the many renovations, however, making it the last true mob structure on the Strip.

Behind the scenes of the casino’s grand opening, the Tropicana had ties to organized crime, largely through reputed mobster Frank Costello.

Costello was shot in the head in New York weeks after the Tropicana’s debut. He survived, but the investigation led police to a piece of paper in his coat pocket with the Tropicana’s exact earnings figure, revealing the mob’s stake in the casino.

By the 1970s, federal authorities investigating mobsters in Kansas City charged more than a dozen operatives with conspiring to skim $2 million in gambling revenue from Las Vegas casinos, including the Tropicana. Charges connected to the Tropicana alone resulted in five convictions.

There were no public viewing areas for the event, but fans of the Tropicana did have a chance in April to bid farewell to the vintage Vegas relic.

“Old Vegas, it’s going,” Joe Zappulla, a teary-eyed New Jersey resident, said at the time as he exited the casino, shortly before the locks went on the doors.

The Las Vegas Strip officially said goodbye to an iconic casino.

The Tropicana Las Vegas fell early Wednesday morning as part of a grand implosion in Sin City.

The Vegas sky was illuminated by a dazzling drone and fireworks show before the two hotel towers came crashing down at around 2:30 a.m. local time.

You can watch the implosion, which took around 22 seconds, in the video player above.

The city’s first implosion of a Strip casino since 2016 was done in order to make way for a proposed $1.5 billion stadium for MLB’s relocating Oakland Athletics. The ballpark is slated to open in 2028.

A’s-related imagery was even featured in the drone and lights show.

“The demolition of the Tropicana is an important milestone in the process of bringing A’s baseball to the world-renowned Las Vegas Strip and the community of Southern Nevada,” said A’s owner John Fisher, via NBC KSNV in Las Vegas. “We hope that, in time, this site will become a place of unforgettable experiences for fans of the game.”

The Tropicana opened in 1957 and was the third-oldest casino on the Strip. The casino closed its doors for good this past April.

Why Sean Payton “loved” Bo Nix’s fiery demeanor on the sideline in the Denver Broncos’ win over the Las Vegas Raiders

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Bo Nix didn’t hold back when addressing his head coach Sean Payton on the sideline midway through the Denver Broncos‘ dominant 34-18 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Fiery. Animated. Passionate.

Those are all words that could have been used to describe the emotions, temperament and actions of the 24-year-old quarterback toward his 61-year-old head coach.

And despite Payton being the head coach and Nix just the quarterback, the head coach loved it.

“Absolutely. Absolutely,” Payton said on Monday morning, when asked if he liked Nix speaking up in the animated moment during the game that was caught on national television. “All good. All good.”

“It’s the heat of the moment, it’s the game. It’s competitive, he’s fiery,” the head coach added, playing down the significance of the moment. “We’re in the business of passion.”

And being in the business of passion, as Payton said, the Broncos are looking for that type of passion Nix displayed.

“We’re looking for passion, and we’re looking for people who have passion for the game—not other things,” the head coach said. “I think that it’s so important to him. Again I loved his response. We’re on to the next play, and it’s nothing.”

One more thing Payton will love about that exchange is how Nix responded. After taking a few minutes to cool down, the rookie quarterback played the best stretch of football he’s played in his short NFL career.

To finish off the game, after the sideline exchange, Nix went 5-for-5 for 54 yards and had a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown.

“He played well,” Payton said, evaluating Nix’s performance against the Raiders. “He used his feet, went through his progressions, threw the ball well, got it down the field, took the underneath throws. He handled the two-minute again. That’s happened a number of times now, where we’ve been able to get some points at the end of the half. He had good command of what we were doing, and I was pleased.”

On top of that, the Broncos’ scored a season-high 34 points, got their first division win, snapped their eight-game losing streak to the Raiders, extended their win streak to three games and started AFC West divisional play 1-0.

No wonder Sean Payton had no issue with Bo Nix showing passion on the sidelines.

Macklemore Dropped From Vegas Music Festival After Anti-America Comment

Less than a week after he was announced as a headliner of the inaugural Neon City Festival, Macklemore has been dropped from the lineup of the Las Vegas event “due to unforeseen circumstances.”

While the music festival did not disclose a specific reason why Macklemore will no longer be performing, the change comes a few days after the “Can’t Hold Us” singer made headlines for saying, “Fuck America,” on stage while performing at a pro-Palestinian benefit concert called Palestine Will Live Forever. As shown in footage, the remark drew applause from the Seattle audience.

The headliners of Neon City Festival were announced on Sept. 19, and Macklemore ignited controversy for his anti-American comment on Sept. 21. He was dropped from Neon City Festival on Sept. 24.

On Sept. 25, Macklemore released a lengthy statement, saying, in part: “My thoughts and feelings are not always expressed perfectly or politely. Sometimes I slip up and get caught in the moment. … Unfortunately, the historic event in my hometown that brought thousands of people together to raise awareness and money for the people of Palestine has become overshadowed by two words.”

The rapper went on to express his disappointment in the United States’ role in the violence in the Middle East before adding, “I’ve lost endorsements, I’ve lost business ties. I am still here, unwavering in my support for a Free Palestine.”

Macklemore has been outspoken supporter of Palestinians amid the Israel-Hamas war. He signed an open letter calling for a ceasefire and has accused Israel of committing a genocide in Gaza. In May 2024, he released a protest song titled “Hind’s Hall,” in support of the student protesters on college campuses, with proceeds going toward the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Neon City Festival will take place in downtown Las Vegas from Nov. 22-24. Headliners include Alison Wonderland, Neon Trees, Russell Dickerson and Seven Lions.

Rap star Macklemore dumped by Las Vegas festival after anti-American chant

On Saturday, rap star Macklemore called out “(Expletive) America!” at a pro-Palestine show in Seattle.

On Tuesday, he was cut from a first-ever festival in downtown Las Vegas.

Organizers for the Neon City Festival have dropped the 41-year-old recording artist from their inaugural event, scheduled for Nov. 22-24 at several downtown venues and stages.

A statement from the event said “unforeseen circumstances” had prompted the decision. Officials responded to a request for comment early Tuesday morning.

The Neon City Festival was designed to generate business during the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Macklemore was among the five primary headliners for the event. No word on who, if anyone, would replace the ousted performer for this year’s festival.

The rapper was performing at the “Palestine Will Live Forever” festival in his hometown of Seattle on Saturday night. The performance was to benefit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees.

Long a supporter of Palestinian causes, the singer-songwriter called out the U.S. for its policy in support of Israel in the war against the militant group Hamas. His chant was in his performance of the song, “Hind’s Hall 2” at the Seward Park Amphitheater.

In the song’s final verse, Macklemore raps the “(Expletive) America!” line.

“Straight up, say it, I’m not gonna stop you,” Macklemore says in a fan video from the show after the crowd shouts at the stage. “I’m not gonna stop you … yeah, (expletive) America,” he says into the mic, prompting cheers from the crowd. He later adds, “It’s a genocide and it has been since 1948,” the year the state of Israel was established.

Social media posts from the performance show the crowd chanting along, touching off a heated response that — it seems — has cost the headliner a spot in the November festival.
