49ers Fall to the Chiefs in Week 7; Five Takeaways from #KCvsSF

49ers Fall to the Chiefs in Week 7; Five Takeaways from #KCvsSF

In a battle of NFL heavyweights, anything goes. The Chiefs attempted a fake punt on 4th-and-two on their opening drive and were stopped in their tracks by safety Ji’Ayir Brown and defensive lineman Jordan Elliott. After the turnover on downs, San Francisco took over at Kansas City’s 45 yard line.

In the second quarter, the special teams unit put up the first points of the game. Kicker Anders Carlson, who was signed on Tuesday due to injuries to Matthew Wright in Week 6, kicked a 55-yard field goal through the uprights to make it 3-0 San Francisco with a minute left to play in the first quarter. He later drilled a 24-yard field goal attempt but missed the extra point attempt following the 49ers first touchdown of the day.

Defensive Line Stacks the Plays Early

San Francisco’s defensive line made their impact early in Sunday’s showdown. The line’s string of splash plays began on the second defensive series as Kansas City was driving down the field and just inside the red zone. Nick Bosa sacked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a loss of five yards. On the very next play, third-year defensive lineman Kalia Davis, who has battled through multiple knee injuries early in his career, tipped and came down with Mahomes’ pass to register his first-career interception.

The next time the defense took the field, defensive lineman duo Maliek Collins and Leonard Floyd got home on Mahomes for a loss of four yards to force a three-and-out. As a result of their stout defensive play, Kansas City went scoreless in the first quarter.

Rookie Receiver Snags His First-Career Reception

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall completed his comeback from the Non-Football Injury list on Sunday. The 49ers first-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft was sidelined early in the year after suffering an injury in an attempted robbery in late August. He caught his first pass, a six-yard completion on second-and-10, in the final minute of the second quarter. That catch garnered a huge cheer from the crowd at Levi’s® Stadium and helped fire up San Francisco’s offense. Quarterback Brock Purdy and company were able to drive down the field and close out the drive with a 24-yard field goal.

Secondary Steps Up in the Third Quarter

Fourth-year defensive back Deommodore Lenoir spoiled the Chiefs opening drive of the second half intercepting a pass intended for Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy. Lenoir was able to pick up 33 yards on the return to set up the 49ers offense on Kansas City’s 23 yard line. San Francisco went on to score on the ensuing drive. Purdy punched in the touchdown on a quarterback sneak to cap off a seven-play, 23-yard drive. On the Chiefs next offensive series, cornerback Charvarius Ward came in clutch, breaking up a deep shot intended for Travis Kelce to force a three-and-out.

  • Wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. was dealing with an illness prior to kickoff, and despite being cleared to play was hardly on the field early. He was listed as questionable with an illness in the third quarter and then out minutes later.
  • Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk suffered a knee injury on the 49ers final drive of the second quarter. He landed awkwardly with two Chiefs defenders following a 15-yard completion. He was ruled out in the early minutes of the third quarter. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said postgame the team is “worried” Aiyuk injured his ACL but that injury has not been confirmed.

Week 7 NFL picks for Browns vs. Bengals

Before tuning into Sunday’s Browns vs. Bengals game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up well over $7,000 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception. The model enters Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season on an incredible 11-3 hot streak on top-rated NFL picks this year. Longer term, it is on a 192-132 roll on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season and a 46-24 roll on top-rated NFL picks since Week 7 of 2022.

For Browns vs. Bengals, the model is backing Cleveland to cover the spread at home. The Browns have dominated this rivalry in recent years, winning seven of the last 10 meetings against the Bengals. Cleveland enters Sunday’s showdown having won six straight at home against Cincinnati.

Cincinnati’s defense has been leaky this season, giving up 25.3 points per game on average, which ranks 25th in the NFL. Browns running back Nick Chubb (knee) is expected to make his season debut, which could be the spark Cleveland’s offense has been missing. The Browns will likely lean on their defense to keep them in Sunday’s game, and the model has them covering the spread in almost 60% of simulations. You may be able to stream the game here.

Week 7 final score predictions

Week 7 final score predictions

The Cincinnati Bengals will need to break a trend in Week 7 by stealing a road win against the Cleveland Browns.

Should Joe Burrow and the Bengals make that happen, they would move the needle on the season to 3-4. Lose, and 2-5 effectively ends everything.

But the Bengals haven’t done that since 2017 — and Burrow never has.

Normally, the way Burrow’s offense has played lately would be a major reason for hope this time. He had an MVPish stretch for a trio of games and has settled on a 71.6 completion percentage with 1,578 yards and 12 touchdowns against just two interceptions. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins have played great and Chase Brown averages 5.5 yards per carry in the backfield.

But the defense is a cause for concern. The unit looked better in a Week 6 win over the New York Giants as players like Sheldon Rankins got healthy. But the process has been slow, with a serious lack of pass rush and fundamentals like proper angles causing issues.

And the offense is now a concern, too. What has been the best line of Burrow’s career to date collapsed against the Giants, a team that sports about as AFC North-like front seven as one can possibly be. Now, the task is asking that same offensive line to rebound against the likes of Myles Garrett.

The saving grace could be the Browns offense. Cleveland is, after all, a 1-5 team for a reason. Deshaun Watson has been a disaster again, this time throwing just five scores and three picks over six games while averaging just 5.1 yards per attempt. The front office just traded Amari Cooper away. Browns star running back Nick Chubb will return, but on an unknown snap count. Still, it could open up the offense some.

But at this point, all Bengals fans can do is hope that the defense has learned from the past six weeks and will continue to gel now that this is the healthiest it has been all season, minus the loss of Dax Hill.

From a broader perspective, this is one of the most lopsided quarterback matchups of the week, if not possible in the NFL right now. The Browns have played a handful of their recent losses close, but expect Burrow to bail out the Bengals late in a close one.

Prediction: Bengals 27, Browns 24

Trump ends uneven week on the campaign trail with Arnold Palmer riff : NPR

Republican presidential nominee former President Donald Trump speaks during a campaign rally at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport on Saturday in Latrobe, Pa.

Former President Donald Trump called Kamala Harris a “sh** vice president” and implied golfer Arnold Palmer was well-endowed during a rambling Saturday rally in Pennsylvania that capped off a tumultuous week on the campaign trail.

Speaking in Latrobe, Penn., where Palmer was born, Trump delivered a lengthy monologue about the late golfer’s life story and praised him as “all man,” including an off-color joke about Palmer’s anatomy.

“Arnold Palmer was all man, and I say that in all due respect to women — and I love women,” Trump said. “But this guy, this guy, this is a guy that was all man. This man was strong and tough. And I refuse to say it, but when he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there, they said, ‘Oh my God, that’s unbelievable.'”

In the closing weeks of the 2024 campaign, Trump’s rally speeches largely mirror the same trajectory as earlier in the year — meandering missives that paint a dire picture of an America governed by Democrats and overrun by migrants, touting a tariff-driven economic plan that’s light on details, and aggressively railing against his political opponents — especially Democrats like Harris.

After an extended riff mocking Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Trump said Harris was more “radical left crazy” than Warren and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

“So you have to tell Kamala Harris that you’ve had enough, that you just can’t take it anymore, we can’t stand you, you’re a sh** vice president,” Trump told a roaring crowd. “The worst. You’re the worst vice president. Kamala, you’re fired! Get the hell out of here!”

Trump then asked the crowd how they liked the flyover his campaign plane did before landing and encouraged them to vote.

It was an unusually energetic rally for the former president, who has looked and sounded tired of late while doing multiple events and interviews a day across multiple swing states.

Harris’ campaign has made a pointed attempt to highlight Trump’s energy levels as part of a closing message that argues the 78-year-old does not have the stamina or fitness to lead the country.

“He is only focused on himself, and now he’s ducking debates and canceling interviews because of exhaustion,” Harris said at a rally in Atlanta Saturday night. “And when he does answer a question or speak at a rally, have you noticed he tends to go off script and ramble and generally for the life of him cannot finish a thought?”

Trump had a rough week with only a few of them left in the election

With less than 17 days until the final votes will be cast in the election, Trump’s campaign blitz hit several bumps this past week.

Monday, a town hall in Oaks, Pa., was interrupted by two medical incidents in the hot, crowded room. After the second call for a medic, Trump opted to stop the question-and-answer session and instead played music for more than half an hour, swaying along to his favorite songs on stage while the crowd watched.

Tuesday, he sat for a contentious interview with Bloomberg News, taped a Fox News town hall focused on women’s issues and then delivered remarks in suburban Atlanta, where he sounded a somber note about potentially losing the election.

“If you don’t win win win, we’ve all had a good time, but it’s not going to matter, right?” he asked. “Sadly, because what we’ve done is amazing: Three nominations in a row, what we’ve done. We’ve got to win. If we don’t win, it’s like was all —it was all for not very much. We can’t, can’t let that happen.”

Wednesday, Trump’s Fox town hall with an all-women audience aired, where he called himself the “father of IVF” and said Alabama Sen. Katie Britt (a “fantastically attractive person”) had to explain to him what in vitro fertilization was before he supported it.

He also participated in a Univision town hall with Latino voters where he doubled down on false claims about Haitian migrants eating pets in Ohio and called the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt a “day of love.”

At a Catholic charity dinner known for jokes in New York Thursday, Trump’s remarks largely focused on Harris, who didn’t attend. At his Friday rally in Michigan, the microphone stopped working a few minutes into his speech, as he began to talk about tariffs.

Trump paced the stage silently for about 20 minutes until audio was restored, while the screens behind him eventually said “TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES” and “COMPLICATED BUSINESS.”

“If it goes off again, I’ll sue their a** off,” Trump half-joked about the production company.

Trump has another rally Sunday night in Pennsylvania and a full week of events in key states coming up. More than 13 million people have already voted in the presidential election, with a little over two more weeks of voting left.

Game Inactives | Week 6 Titans vs Colts

The Tennessee Titans (1-3) return from their bye this week to host the Indianapolis Colts (2-3) in their first AFC South clash of 2024. Kickoff at Nissan Stadium (69,143) is scheduled for noon CDT on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Two second-year quarterbacks—Tennessee’s Will Levis and Indianapolis’ Anthony Richardson—could potentially meet for the first time in their professional careers this week. However, Levis did not finish the Titans’ most recent game at Miami due to an injury, and Richardson was inactive last week at Jacksonville with an injury of his own. In 2023, Richardson’s rookie season came to a premature end due to an injury in a game against the Titans (Oct. 8), three weeks before Levis made his NFL debut.

This week also marks the Titans’ annual Crucial Catch game. Each NFL team designates one game each season to raise awareness for early cancer detection and risk reduction. Sunday at Nissan Stadium will feature on-field and in-stadium Crucial Catch elements and also present opportunities to honor survivors and those currently battling cancer.

Here are the Week 6 Inactives for both teams:

Saints vs Buccaneers Game Recap – NFL Week 6

Rattler was 22 of 40 for 243 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, both in the second half. Running back Alvin Kamara had 13 carries for 40 yards with a 4-yard touchdown run, the 60th of his career. Rookie receiver Bub Means had his first reception, his first touchdown catch (10 yards in the second quarter) while catching five catches for 45 yards. The Saints used their fourth combination at offensive line with the absence of guard/center Lucas Patrick. Connor McGovern started in his place. The run game was a struggle, the longest run was a 16-yard scramble by Rattler, and pass protection became an issue in the second half.

Paulson Adebo, Johnathan Abram and Cameron Jordan had interceptions for the Saints while linebacker Willie Gay had a sack. But it wasn’t enough to stop Mayfield and the Bucs. The former No. 1 overall draft pick was 24 of 36 for 325 yards with four touchdown passes and the three interceptions. Sean Tucker had 14 carries for 136 yards while Bucky Irving added 81 yards on 14 carries. They each had a touchdown. It is the fifth time in franchise history the Saints have given up 50 or more points. The 594 yards is the second most the Saints have given up in franchise history.

The Bucs, playing for the first time in 10 days, practiced all week at Tulane to escape the impact of Hurricane Milton, which hit the Tampa Bay area. The Saints, who entered this week on short rest after the Monday night game, have an even shorter week as they host the Denver Broncos on “Thursday Night Football” at the Caesars Superdome. The Broncos (3-2) are playing the Los Angeles Chargers at 3:05 p.m. Sunday.

Bucs 51, Saints 27 – Bucs Defeat the New Orleans Saints in Week 6

Bucs 51, Saints 27 – Bucs Defeat the New Orleans Saints in Week 6

On the Saints’ first offensive possession, the defense recorded a takeaway, halting the home team’s momentum. Tykee Smith forced the ball out of Chris Olave’s hands, blanketing the Saints’ receiver. Antoine Winfield Jr., who returned from a foot injury in Week Six, recovered the football and returned it 58 yards for a Tampa Bay touchdown, providing the Bucs’ with an early 14-0 lead inside the Superdome.

On the next drive after Mike Evans drew a pass interference flag on Paulson Adebo, Carl Granderson was flagged for unnecessary roughness two plays later. A flea flicker picked up 15 yards for Sean Tucker on the trick play, but Mayfield’s pass to Evans on third down went incomplete. Chase McLaughlin drilled a 26-yard field goal, giving the Bucs a 17-0 lead in the first quarter.

On the following drive, following a pickup of 16 for Spencer Rattler on a scramble and a 13-yard gain for Foster Moreau, Calijah Kancey dropped Alvin Kamara for a loss of one. After Kamara was stopped short on third down by Yaya Diaby, the Saints were forced to kick a field goal at the beginning of the second frame, making it a 17-3 game.

The Bucs next drive began with back-to-back penalties, including too many men on the field and a false start. After a couple incompletions to Evans and Godwin, an unnecessary roughness penalty on the Bucs stalled the drive on third down. Rashid Shaheed then fielded Jake Camarda’s 47-yard punt, and he returned it 64 yards for a Saints’ touchdown.

Tampa Bay’s next drive was cut short as Paulson Adebo intercepted Mayfield at the Tampa Bay 30-yard line. He returned it 17 yards but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Alontae Taylor brought the Saints back 15 yards. New Orleans was not able to cash in with points after Vita Vea sacked Rattler on third down, which set up a Grupe 29-yard field goal.

A turnover promptly ended the Bucs next drive. Mayfield’s pass intended for Jalen McMillan was intercepted by Johnathan Abram at the Tampa Bay 40-yard line. He returned it 30 yards to the 10, and the Saints cashed in with a score. Rattler connected with Bub Means on a 10-yard score, giving the Saints a 20-17 lead. The Buccaneers immediately responded with a touchdown of their own. A 39-yard gain by Ryan Miller put the Bucs in positive field position and Tucker took a screen 36-yards to the house, capping off a six-play, 76-yard scoring drive. He maneuvered around traffic and found the end zone.

The Saints fired back on a seven-play, 70-yard scoring drive. From second-and-seven, Rattler found Moreau sitting in a zone over the middle of the field and the Saints’ tight end picked up 41 yards on the catch-and-run, setting the home team up at the seven-yard-line. Alvin Kamara finished the drive with a four-yard touchdown. New Orleans took a three-point lead in the offensive shootout before the two-minute warning.

The Bucs’ next drive was stalled by an interception. Bryan Bresee batted down Mayfield’s pass intended for Cade Otton and Cam Jordan intercepted the ball at the New Orleans 40-yard line, putting Rattler and co. right back on the field. The Saints were not able to take advantage with points, after an effective pressure package by the Bucs on third down. Antoine Winfield Jr. and Lavonte David came flying in, forcing an errant throw by the rookie.

Coming out the half, rookie Tykee Smith forced another fumble that Zyon McCollum recovered. After review, the play was ruled an incomplete pass, setting up an ensuing punt. The Saints’ defense forced a quick three-and-out and the Bucs followed suit with a Camarda punt. The Bucs’ defense brought the pressure on the subsequent drive for N.O. Rattler was taken down by K.J. Britt and Chris Braswell on first down for a loss of nine yards and the next play, Logan Hall and Calijah Kancey got into the mix, splitting a sack for a loss of three, which resulted in third-and-22 and an eventual punt.

The Bucs’ offense followed suit with a touchdown. Godwin took a screen 55 yards, culminating in a score. He made the first defender miss and cutback inside for an open shot at the end zone. The RAC-artist utilized his physical prowess in the open field, giving Tampa Bay a five-point lead.

On the Saints’ next drive, a 30-yard gain by Johnson was brought back due to an illegal shift and ensuing replay of second down. An incompletion on third down set up a Matthew Hayball punt. The Bucs’ following drive ended after a second-down sack by Willie Gay on Mayfield and a third-down scramble by Mayfield came up short of the sticks. The Bucs’ defense came up with a takeaway on the ensuing drive, this one by McCollum at the Tampa Bay 42-yard line. He intercepted Rattler’s pass intended for Shaheed, making a sensational leaping grab. Bucky Irving continued the stellar trend for Tampa Bay with a 31-yard run. He quickly bounced to the outside with a lateral cut and threw a lethal stiff arm into the mix. Otton capped off the five-play, 58-yard drive with a touchdown. Under duress, Mayfield threw a low dart to No.88 right on the numbers as he fell to the ground, extending the visiting team’s lead, 37-27.

The Bucs’ defense then forced a Saints’ three-and-out, including a sack by Lavonte David on first down. The Tampa Bay offense put an exclamation mark on the game with a 10-play, 71-yard scoring drive, capped off by an Irving one-yard touchdown run. A few plays before, the rookie running back brought the Bucs to the New Orleans eight-yard line off an 18-yard screen. The Saints’ defense had no answers for the Bucs’ perimeter assault.

The defense quickly answered, with Smith intercepting Rattler at the Tampa Bay 36-yard line. The very next play, Tucker passed through the B-gap for a 36-yard gain post-cut. He ended the six-play, 64-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown, to give the Bucs’ a convincing 51-27 win.

2024 Week 6 Game Report

2024 Week 6 Game Report

LONDON – This was a bit too familiar.

It was a bit too frustrating and disappointing, too – with the Jaguars’ annual London trip hardly beginning as they hoped and needed.

Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams had a huge game and the Jaguars’ offense struggled through the middle of the game – all of which allowed the Bears to pull away for a 35-16 victory in front of 61,182 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Sunday afternoon.

“We’ve got to play better all around,” Head Coach Doug Pederson said, adding, “I take full responsibility, obviously, but we all need to be better.”

Pederson added, “We didn’t expect to be here in this spot. We have to find a way to get out of it.”

The Jaguars (1-5), a week after beating the Indianapolis Colts in Jacksonville, lost for a 10th time in 12 games dating to last season. The Bears (4-2) out-gained the Jaguars 373-278, including 216-13 in a momentum-turning second quarter.

“We didn’t make enough plays, didn’t execute, and had just too many mistakes,” Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said, adding: “We have 11 more games. There’s definitely a way back. Me pumping us up isn’t going to do anything up here. We have to take care of business on our end. It’s a long season and we have a lot of football left.”

The Jaguars will play a home game against the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London next Sunday. Pederson called that game “must win.”

“I would say so,” he said. “I would say everything here on out, quite frankly. If we want to get back to playing the type of football we know we can play, you’re going to have to win a lot of games moving forward. I would say these games moving forward are just that.”

Pederson also said he believes he has the “full backing” of Owner Shad Khan.

“I was just with him,” he said during his post-game media availability, “and I do.”

Pederson added that he felt “defeated” after the team’s second-widest margin of defeat this season.

“I feel for the players and the coaches,” he said. “We work extremely too hard to be in this position. The guys don’t quit. They keep fighting.”

Williams, the No. 1 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, completed 23 of 39 passes for four touchdown passes with an interception on a Jaguars defense that has struggled against the pass in recent weeks.

Williams’ two second-quarter touchdown passes to tight end Cole Kmet to turn a 3-0 Jaguars lead into a 14-3 Bears halftime advantage, with Williams starting the second half with a first-drive touchdown pass to wide receiver Keenan Allen.

Williams’ second touchdown pass to Allen in as many quarters all-but secured the Bears’ victory seconds into the fourth quarter.
